  • Today I'm taking you behind the scenes as we race against time to get the chateau ready for our first B&B guests of the season. Join us as we paint, clean, weed, and decorate the property - hopefully in time for our guests' arrival.
I'll take you on a tour of all of the guest bedrooms of the chateau to show you the (horrific) before and (hopefully lovely!) after shots of each room as we work to transform the chateau into a welcoming and beautiful space for our visitors. And whilst half of us are going crazy inside, the garden team faces a huge weed problem outside...
With the clock ticking, the pressure is on to finish everything in time. Will we make it? We'll share the moment of truth as our first guests arrive. Will they be impressed with all the hard work we've put in? Join us to find out!
If you love DIY, interior decorating, and hospitality, this video is for you. Follow along with us at The Chateau Diaries as we race against the clock to get the chateau ready for our guests and create an unforgettable experience.
The Chateau Diaries Episode 381 ✨🏰✨
Escape to the chateau with 'The Chateau Diaries' 🏰
This channel follows the adventures of chatelaine Stephanie in her French 16th century home, the Chateau de Lalande, in the heart of rural France ❤️
We share our life in this ancient chateau in the heart of the French countryside, and show you the diy, renovations, crafts, cooking and gardening that are needed to bring a home like this to life!
A very special thank you to all of you who have become Patrons of the Chateau de Lalande. You have made The Chateau Diaries one of the top 400 Patreon accounts in the world, and have transformed not only our lives here, but the future of this beautiful chateau! I'm overwhelmed by your kindness and generosity. On behalf of this beautiful chateau that will continue to survive and flourish because of you, thank you!!!

It’s not until you see videos like this one that you completely realise just how much work is involved in running a chateau and preparing for guests. You normally make it look like a bit of a breeze and great fun, and yet you all still manage to keep upbeat, singing and smiling. Absolutely well done everyone and thank you for sharing your lives, loves and laughter 😊

Stephanie, brea down the cardboard boxes and rake back any mulch in your garden beds put the cardboard around the plants you want and then cover back with mulch. The cardboard will help reduce weeds and as it breaks down it will bring more earth worms. Win, win! My Grandma did this every year and she had a beautiful garden!

I just adore Phillips insight to plan ahead and have what works in the moment at his fingertips. Ooh, may I give you a great tip for dealing with weeds? I may? Oh good! If you spray good ol' white vinegar over the weeds, such as the ones coming up in the stones, after the sun has gone down, trying not to spray the plants you do want, then they'll die overnight and you can pull them out in the morning! Also, of course, there's your flame tool.
What a stellar job you all did getting the chateau ready. I sooo wish I was there helping because I love doing that sort of thing! One day, perhaps! 😃🤞🏼
Philip, you're always bang on with things the chateau needs. It's only a mater of time before you get that puppy! 😁 (sorry Stephanie 😉)

Just a thought. When we put bark etc on our garden beds we always put newspaper down first on the dirt and around the plants about a dozen pages or whatever we can get. Water it down. Then put the bark on about 4-5 inches thick. We do not get weeds coming through except for the off ones which the birds drop or poop out and they grow. But then they are so easy to pull out but there isn’t many of them at all. Does not effect the plants at all except they do not have to compete with the weeds. It saves sooooo much time which in turn would save money. Just a thought for you

When weeding, spread a large tarp on ground to throw dug weeds into. Then pull the tarp to the area you are depositing. This way you only need pick up weeds once. Also spray weed-b-gone in the weed hole
so remaining roots don’t regrow the plant. Otherwise, you will keep digging up the same plant. Gardens are looking lovely, good job gardeners!!!!

Stephanie, I actually put white vinegar on weeds in certain areas. So I don’t use any kind of chemicals. My grandmother in Lebanon had a big garden at the mountain home, and she used vinegar to clean the house and get rid of weeds. I do the same by using a brand new three gallon sprayer and this way I don’t have to injure my back spraying. I mostly use it between gravel and cracks in the driveway. I use the vinegar to protect my cat from any chemicals.

Docks love disturbed ground and the seeds can stay in the soil for 50 years. The dock problem will be because you moved so much earth to make that area of the garden. The one good thing about them is that the deep taproot brings up minerals so if you compost them they will break down and add a lot to the compost but it's probably a good idea to drown them in big bucket of water first to make sure they are dead and won't grow in the compost. Docks are edible, in Yorkshire they make a savoury pudding from them that is served with bacon and it's supposed to taste somewhere between spinach and asparagus but I'm not convinced.

Every room is an exquisite the environment that transports you back in time. Everything you do is with care and concern for the guest. I’m hoping that someday I’ll be part of the experience! meanwhile, thank you for these lovely little snippets, I look forward to them every day.

Watching this older episode as I like to catch up . I loved the walk through of the guest rooms. Can I suggest (as I saw one room had this issue)you check that no cords are showing from under bed side tables or beside lamps. It's a pet- peeve of even 5star hotels ; often photos of accomodation will have electric blanket or TV cords sticking out ..ggrr. Makes a huge difference if this touch is noticed. :)

Amaury and Natalia are perfect together. It is such a blessing they found each other. From Argentina to California to France! What a journey. I am from Uruguay and now live in California, after living in New Jersey and Washington.
Greetings from So Cal to all of you at Chateau Lalande! ❤

You could always name Natty's old place after her! That way she becomes part of the chateau's history? Just a thought...
