@BOTGRINDER I'm doing this for about two years now. Got the idea from a friend who worked in a vape shop and asked all the customers to return the empty ones. Ofc only a few did it but over some time we accumulated around 100 empty disposables and ripped them apart. I actually did some thorough testing with those bats, like estimating the max current draw they can handle, voltage drop and so on. Flying a 1S whoop isn't really fun, had about the same results you did, but beefier 75/85 whoops with a 1S2P or 2S configuration works actually quite well. Sure, the whoops are more sluggish but you can still get them to fly pretty nimble and have fun indoors. My DIY Frankenstein'd 85 whoop lasted for around 8 minutes with a DIY 2S pack (using cylindrical Li-Io bats). Also I've built some 3S5P packs for my gear as AUX packs (extra power for external ELRS modules, goggle bats and whatnot)
fuck yeah man! I asked some friends to keep the used ones for me and collected some on festivals this year. Got like 60 lipos in a month, some even pack 550 mah! My Aliexpress order for some shrinkfoil and other stuff to make legit batteries is on its way. Reading that you achieved flighttimes of 8 minutes is really reasuring. have a great year

Hey, I've pulled two huge oriental rugs out of dumpsters, inflatable yard Santas, a deer cam... but better.. stuff left out on the side of the road for trash pick up day.. a 720p LED big screen tv, basketball goal.. a huge doll house... that I fixed up and gave away to a little girl... a satelite dish. Craigslist was even better.. once I brought home a boat, on a 20ft boat trailer (which I wanted), plus a free riding lawnmower to boot... all from one person. Turned the boat trailer into an aircraft trailer and used it to pick up a free airplane, and fixed the riding lawnmower. The boat is still in my back yard with working engine. One of those family water ski boats from the 70's. Got a free car once too with locked up engine. Ain't nothing compared to the hundreds of home computers I brought home :-) My computer hauls dwarf all the rest put together combined. My sister got a free house trailer, free pool table, and free piano with it. I ended up buying all three with credit card money I got, er.. .free... lol.
Yeah cool, I do the same. But you can find more disposable vapes in supermarkets. Most of them have this extra collecting containers for old batteries. Also 18650 and 21700 good to find there. Mostly, I make 2S or 3S batteries from 600mAh - 850mAh accus.

Just pilfer through the bin to find I'm sure everything you can imagine in batteries. But, remember, those are in the recycle bin because they failed. So, you've got to look for multi cell lipos and expect to take them apart. You know that when a 3s or 4s lipo fails it's probably because of one cell dying. You get the others that most likely will work fine! I don't think they're really for whoops, but who knows what you'll find the day you decide to go. When I've seen their bin, it's got hundreds of batteries in it. Sure, most are gonna be alkaline AA's, but there's all types. I'll look forward to a Part II. You go Bot! 😎🤘

Disposable vapes should be illegal. Its insane how much waste comes from them. N the materials the lipos are made of can be recycled extremely easily but not when they are tossed in a landfill

A lot of it is people are always in such a hurry. They want to charge everything in a couple of minutes to full charge. They don't realize batteries don't like to be charged really, really fast. Just like we drone guys charge at 1C. That's regular charge speed. Many smartphone owners want to charge their 5000mah phone to full in 30 minutes. Well, that can be done, but when you get to a year of owning that phone and it doesn't hold a charge as long, that's because you charged it so fast all the time! Seriously! I charge my phone overnight with the oldest, slowest charger I can find.... Usually a 1 amp! Takes a long time, but it's easily done by morning. Two years later my cell still has an awesome battery life. Simple as slowing down the charging rate. Phone makers love you wanting to charge fast because it means they'll be selling you a new phone sooner! It's planned built in obsolescence! 😮🤷

Disposable e-cigs have lithium batteries. I opened one and it had a18350 1000mah 3.7v. So i put a BT.2 plug on it and ripped it on a 1s babytooth 😀. Although it sagged like doodoo💩. Free battery however made it an enjoyable experiment 😁.

People don't just throw vape pens away unless they stop working which at that point probably means the batteries are done unless they could be regenerated. And even then how many people vape to be finding random ones that stopped working. But hey gave you something to do and content to post. Love it
I made a pack of 3s2p from these little things a while back and even managed to fly my 5" for a couple minutes. It wasn't really a great pack - it heated up like crazy and could only pull about 20 amps, but it flew all right. I think that with 5s it could work very well, but i didn't bother checking it

I saw a video awhile back of a guy in Ukraine making power banks for soldiers out of them. He was taking like 10 of the batteries and putting them in a 3d printed case with a little usb charge/5v boost.
These cells have a really low discharge rate, probably 30C - too low for quads…but perfect for little 1S airplanes. They’re super cheap to buy brand new but I’ve been wanting to try discarded vape cells on mine.
