- Fishing for mackerel from wharfs in Nova Scotia, Canada. On this fishing trip, I ventured to two local wharfs and fished from shore. Typically, I would mackerel fish from my boat. For gear, I used Sabiki Rigs with 1.4oz weighted hooks. During the early season, most of the mackerel are small and are not big enough to keep. This year, mackerel need to be 10.55 inches and you are allowed to retain 20 fish.

I can smell the mackrel right now. So sweet and delicious.
Thanks for watching buddy! They are definitely delicious!
Good to see there are some around!
For sure!
Did some mackerel fishing while in NS last year on vacation. Most were too small to keep but still fun to catch.
Definitely still a blast! Thanks for watching 👀 🙂
Nice bonus fish!
Definitely a nice bonus!
Fish on!

I always enjoy your videos. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching man! 🇱🇧

Haha for sure! Thanks for watching. I can't wait for some squid action. 👀🙂
Keeping that truck clean! , nice vid brother
Yeah man! Cheers brother!
Finally! You went fishing for mackerel this year. Mackerels this season are huge not like last year 😅
I agree! At least there are still around. Later in the summer and early fall, there will definitely be some around! Thanks for tuning in 😀
@@HuntingprosHello good videos i have hunting videos on youtube
I'd honestly think we were fishing at the same spot watching this video hahaha! I went to LaHave last week and it was just as foggy. Caught some tinkers though, and a buddy there pulled in a little pollock. So I'd say it was a decent time! Great video!
Haha right on! Thanks for watching. Can't wait for the bigger ones to make their way in!
I want to learn to mackerel fish! I am living in Halifax with zero fishing experience
Very simple, buddy. Find saltwater, use mackerel jigs and a weight. Cast out and reel in.
Great video. I’ve had a pretty terrible mackerel season this year. Caught lots of pollock early on in the season though.
Thanks for tuning in! Yeah... The mackerel population is definitely at a low...
@@Huntingpros I’m hoping it won’t be getting worse in years to come. 😬
Definitely been on a decline for a couple years! I also made sure to sub to your channel!@@Howwerelivingfishing
@@Huntingpros appreciate it 🙏

Always enjoy the fishing videos! Do you ever make smoked mackerel?
Thanks for watching! 😀😃
2:16 I mark the keeper size on my rod. That way I never have to worry about a tape measured I just bring my rod.
That's a good idea actually! I might do that myself! Thanks!
@@Huntingpros any time 👊
Just come across your channel.top job mate. Here in Ireland the mackerel over the last three years have been extremely scarce. Over fishing perhaps??
Hey! Thanks for the kind comment. They shut down the commercial fishery last season and this season due to low stocks. Only recreational fishing allowed. Hoping they bounce back! Thanks for watching.
Hello!
I just arrived. Glad to join the community of fishermen! You talked about mackerel, and how many pieces of pollock can you take and what size? And please write the name of the place where you fished, if it's not a fishing secret.😉
Welcome to the community. I typically don't share my locations on the internet. Any government wharf will hold mackerel in the deeper water. Mackerel need to be 10.55 inches to retain. The measurement is from the fork of the tail to the tip of the snout. Check the DFO website for ground fish. Depending on where you are in the province, there are different retention limits.
Where in Atlantic Canada?
East Coast Nova Scotia!
What size of hook of the sabiki rig that you use ?? Thank you
I’m pretty sure these were #6
What type of line are you using? I’m heading to Cape Breton on Friday from Ont. Love to try this!
This is 40lb braided. It doubles as a rod for stripped bass when they are running! Thanks for watching. 😉
How will you know if there are mackarels in the area? The only thing ive been catching on wharfs are cunners
Any harbour in NS likely has mackerel. Cast out and do what I was doing in this video. Thanks for watching.
What kind of lures and baits for mackerels?
Sabiki Rigs with weight or weighted jig.
What kind of sabiki rig are you using there?
Eagle Claw Lazer Sharp. The pink ones 😀
“No more fish were caught” 😂
Haha. 🤣
