White boy here from Long Island My beautiful black wife of 10 years got me into Bill Burr hahahaha... now I know why. The Harlem story was relatable - she lived in a shady part of Jamaica Queens when we were dating. This is exactly how it felt. 🤣
Actually Elvis didn't acknowledge it by saying it, but by living it. He grew up living in a poor black community, all his friends were black and would go singing in the choir at a black Baptist Church.
Fact is, Elvis ALWAYS gave blacks credit for their music. Some of his best friends were black, friends like BB King, James Brown, Muhammad Ali, etc... The black community loved him, while the older white community hated him. Hound Dog a& One Night With You were black sex songs, all he did was clean up the words so they could be played on the radio. He had good looks, a great voice, crazy energy, and he knew how to deliver a song. Watch a few El is and the black community videos for the truth about Elvis.
apparently it all traces back to Aberdeenshire and folk music from Scotland, but that makes it white shit again and that's just not cool so best forget that...
I dated a black chick who showed me that exact lotion skit and proceeded to hand me a bottle of lotion 😂 Then the next time I showed up to her place she answered the door and immediately paused and said "... you put your lotion?" 😂
I grew up in lower east Harlem back in the 60's and early 70's. It was exactly like Bill described it. Once past 99th/100th street you didn't see a white face unless they worked at the hospital nearby. 125th street was like the area center with it's shopping area and entertainment venues like The Apollo.

A joke by Reginald D Hunter I was outside a bar in Ireland when a white man came up to me and said, "boy, you look like a mean looking cunt". My friends were getting angry but I said "hold up, I speak Irish....what he's saying is you seem like a friendly and interesting individual." So I responded with, "wuddup you drunk Patty bastard." And he said, "ehhhh!" He's been my manager ever since.

@@aeolusv7611... Go to RUclips and check out Elvis and the Black community. Some radio stations barred Elvis music because they thought his music was influenced by Black music. They actually broke his records. I'm a 72 year old white woman. Our local eastern Kentucky radio stations played Elvis from the beginning. My older sisters kept the radio on.
You mean the cliche ridden "in the ghetto?". I'd like the black community to let me know how much that helped them The song is basically about how kids in Black impoverished areas are destined to misery and violence. Yet there's still more of them being born, just another hungry mouth to feed until the kid turns to violence and gets shot, and then another one's born . Elvis mean a lot of money off that one. That's that song in a nutshell and he didn't even write it. It wasn't even a white savior song, "here's how we can fix them". I don't think Elvis was racist, get that straight. But making money off cliche tearjerkers about hopelessness in Black communities,. I'll let you guess what your average racist white dick thought about that. "Yup" I don't think he constantly advocated. Let me know who his warm-up bands were and who is backup musicians were. Let me know who was in his inner circle down in the Memphis Mafia. I can cut him slack when he was starting out, because the world was what it was back then, but once he became popular I don't think he did much if anything for the black community. " in the ghetto tells the story of how a hungry child turns to violence to escape his impoverishment. As the boy dies with a bullet in his back, another baby is born in the ghetto. His title was *The Vicious Circle*
Don't ever start a Bill Burr video off with "I hope he doesn't take it too far". You're going to need a thicker skin to handle Bill. He's just as brilliant as Chappelle and Rock. But just as direct as them as well.
Y'all were on point, but I gotta point out one comment you made. At the end you said funny racist jokes are accurate, I would argue that he was racial and not racist. Racist would mean he was disrespectful, but I think Bill does a good job of making fun of all of our insecurities about race and keeps it relatable and respectful. His whole skit about being afraid of going to Harlem late at night is actually making fun of himself and his ignorance of black people and black culture...but he overcame his fear for the sake of pussy, which I think we can all understand lmao
Genuinely illuminating reaction. Keep it up guys. Loved the intellectual discussion about the generalizations and how subtle behaviors can influence society in much greater aspects.
Good racial jokes have to have a grain of truth, relatable elements and an equal dash of self deprication of your own race, then they can be total gold.
@deansusec8745 well sure that can be true of most jokes but it's an absolute must for racial ones, otherwise they risk falling flat and just being offensive with no humorous merrit.
