I am Cuban and I always hated the way they made it at home, all watery, not everybody knows how to make it and it looks like Dog food. I then I stared making it myself. Now its one of my favorite dishes.
I’m from Florida and my grandmother was Cuban, I grew up eating this. I love it.
Of you don't have a back for cooling delicious or right it is not as likeable or at all. Restaurants can't cook like a homemade housewife or man that can cook. I can't cook Cuban & I am Cuban. I don't know how to make it taste like that particular interesting taste. I was never taught or had that passion so nevet got the practice to even give white rice that Cuban Cuban intersting yummy taste I like & so crave. I use golden rice cuz of that reason & white good long grain expensive smaller bags or big ones cost more or hard to find. To make all this picadillo, more, etc I'd need all good Goya brand etc higher end priced ingredients too & not skim on one or any at all, which is pkay atm I can e en of is more then a handful I need. Not sure if have all here atm. Well I have the Goya sauce, powder seasoning, some cheap wine she mentioned, but not olives or fresh raisins. They are very old. I need to make a list. I can do black beans like did once, but not sure it was total cuban taste, but super close. I'm not sure I can again. I have not been able to try. I just use can once in a while when I need beans on the rice. If I am making other dish which is usually I do not need beans or too lazy to make the can ol nes better or clean another pot I just go without plus not spending on can. I just hope to make the dry ines in pressure cooker & freeze half & refrigerate the rest left overs then next recipe of rice meat days just use that one. I alternate pasta, no meat or ground beef, beef, nor chicken unless in wrap can chicken cold meal warm handmade Trader Joe's Tortilla is best ever had out there in stores as far as I know just like frozen nan bread too. It keep well long time in freezer even after opened. I like yellow rice corn salchichas or Vienna sausages. Also, going to try my own canned ham with canved & tube pineapple of my own idea of can I bough $4 cvs pharmacy 2 months or so ago. Going to for Christmas. I will try to have a back up incaee not good. Like a yummy frozen meal I like pr pizza, etc fast easy & eat rhe ham & rice or whatever later after the 25th or the 26t-28th. The 24th & 25 must be yummy stuff with soda, etc yummy drink even of it is Italian or not tradirional or holiday style tastubg dishes & other, & not New year's Eve, cuz eating out, but Thanksgiving os Trader Joe's Turkey Pieces bag missed out last yr. Also, not sure if will have sweet potatoes. I rather have them as fries light crunchiness yummy instead of mushy baby like steamed cooked soupy stew style. Like I loved the Boston Market, but not super crazy anymore. I rather have them in fries. Only amazing ever tried was at a CCinebisro movie theater for my birthday special thing I got off a mail in $14 off my bill for movie, & all I paid was for the food. That was special. Also, like Trader Joes sparkling cider juice.not sure if it mixes well with juices like others or grape juice. I wish Trader Joes made more natural juices grape to try, but their mango whatever other fruit it is is better then the other one peach etc. I love Walmart soda, not Sams, but the other rootbeer & cream specially. Cheap & better then bational brands which are not being made yummy anymore & a bit bitter. Just not as good as in a well mixed tab soda fountain at a restaurant & even then Barqs is the yummy choice. Like good food deserves a yummy drink. At a nice lite restaurant also a nice frozen or yummy cold cocktail which is also usually a dessert in it's self & I don't order dessert unless there is a great option not wanting to pass up then I try to make room even if not much there & if it's like a brownie a la mode & I can finish it, I finish the ice cream scoop & take the rest of the fudgy brownie home or cake if its a cake like dessert & that it. Also, missed put on strawberry salad at Panera Bread so now i must wait till next summer sed if its back. Also, they improved the mac & cheese, grilled cheese, chicken noodle soup which so want o try on the pick 2, but first the bbq sandwich & chicken salad. The other sandwich I did have was amazing, improved, stake whatever or was with cooked cook onions on chiabatta bread with chicken wild rice soup is the best soup they ever had, will have ever as well as the sandwich ! I bet no other place anywhere or chain eateries or restaurants have it like they do. Also, best pizza seasonal I had 2 yrs ago. I forget exact month, if August or Fall Sept, but it was the bbq grilled chicken pizza believe at Grimaldis NY brick oven style in Florida where I live. Mmm good stuff !

I’m from Cuba and I never had picadillo with raisins there 😬, I had it like that when I came to the us 😅. But never the less I love it. ( I eat every kind of picadillo) lol

What if u don't want fresh garlic or have it, but you have the rest or ordering Amazon fresh first time for the olives, etc that didn't have. I have jar garlic. They don't have Goya brand of olives. but oh well.

My grandma is straight from cuba. And this isnt necessarily how she would do it. I'd add extra water(or chicken stock) to your picadillo and add a bayleaf and a packet of sazon con azafran in it. Let it simmer until reduced to the consistency you want.
lol. I have a secret to picadillo. the way you did it is almost there. but, substitute the raisins for ketchup (with sugar) , substitute the tomato paste with ragu chunky garden style. you're welcome lol

My Cuban abuela never put cubed potatoes in her picadillo! Picadillo is one of my favorites and I've never had cubed potatoes. Neither were they in the picadillo my aunts and cousins made! No way! And there is a delicate balance on the raisins, too much and it's awful! Ew! Only had raisins in it at Cuban restaurants, I guess it appeals to non Cubans that way idk...
