Chef John, I just love your videos! I have anxiety disorder and struggle with terrible panic attacks at night. Watching you cook is so helpful! Your voice is so soothing, and well, who doesn't love food? Maybe one day I'll even make one of your recipes, lol! Just wanted you to know that you're making a big difference for some nobody in Indiana. Thanks!
Chefs John recipes are scientifically proven to relies hunger and anxiety, but you have to cook them yourself, not some day, sooner is better. How about tomorrow?
I thank you for the kind thought, however I do have access to marijuana should I want it. But it tends to make my anxiety a lot worse. Drugs in general, like Xanax or Valium, don't even make the anxiety go away, they just make me sleepy. I get the same effect with benedryl, so that's what I use, lol.
I'm a Florida boy, and I've eaten a TON of Cuban sandwiches in my day. And Chef? If you opened up a sandwich store anywhere near where I lived, you'd have a customer for life! That looks beyond amazing! :)
Being from Tampa, I can affirm these will change you forever. This is a Miami Cubano. Tampa cuban: Add a nice slice of soft italian salami. (Thanks Italian immigrants!) If you can't find Cuban bread, use an egg roll. These are called "Media Noche. Not quite the same tho....
Dear Chef John on behalf of the Pan-American Federation of Cayenne Pepper Growers I would like to thank you for your services to our industry. I hope you received the check we sent last month.
Hey, chef John. While it's not as common, I highly recommend you try making a cubano with salami in addition to the standard ham and pork. That variation is still authentic, as it comes from Tampa, where there were also many Italian immigrants. The zing and funk that the salami provides is delightful.
I was in Florida for almost 2 months for a job. Being from California I thought nothing of buying a premade Cuban sandwich. Still the best sandwich I've ever had! A premade market Cuban sandwich! Delicious!
Chef John, In Tampa, FL. salami is almost always added. Usually Genoa salami. It always seemed odd to me but it works very well. Thank you for all of your wisdom bestowed upon us. You are a benevolent soul indeed. peas and carrots Chef.
I always make this for my fellow employees at my deli and also for certain nice and special customers. They know me for it now, but they were missing out for years. And! As a 1/2 italian 1/2 puerto rican, who is used to tons of good food, this should be in everyone's cookbook.
Omg I love Cuban sandwiches!! From the moment gossip girl mentioned them to the moment I had them at portos in LA, they are my favorite!!! So glad you could share this with us.
Alvarez cafe in Elizabeth, NJ. They stack them up like firewood for the lunch crowd. I am spoiled to the point of not even trying to replicate one. If they ever close, I'll come back to this video. Thanks, John.
One day I'll make my own Cuban sandwich and add saurkraut on top of everything else because that just sounds to good and my life will be complete. Until then I'll keep settling on the normal way as seen here and be content. Thanks for the video Chef John! :)
This video has FINALLY solved one of life's mysteries for me: if Kim Kardashian, Justin Bieber and Blac Chyna were drowning, and I only had time to save one of them, what sandwich would I make? Definitely a Chef John Cuban Sandwich.
My mouth is watering as I'm watching this video. It reminds me of the Cubanos I'd get off of a food truck. Except they made it with a Polish sausage, instead of the pulled pork.
OMG Eastern North Carolina-Style Barbecue Sauce - North Carolina Vinegar Pepper BBQ Sauce Recipe plus Paper Pork then this video. I ... I.. can't stop drooling.
Dude, you just HAVE to try and make a lomito, a typical argentinian sandwich (just for you to taste it, video not necessary): Thin slices of loan (cow meat) cooked in a really hot pan with some chimichurri sauce (to give it the moists, thats the secret). When the meat's done you just put it between two halves of arab bread, with some ham, cheese, lettuce and tomato slices. Toast it. You can add a fried egg on top of the meat, inside the sandwich and you are done (put some extra chimichurri on it, you wont regret it).
Oh Chef John- this just looks EPIC! All about that cheesy filling and the paper pork- this puts the apples I'm having for breakfast to shame- TO SHAME! :)
First of all Chef John Rocks! Besides offering great things to eat and for me it's too late to go to the store to make whatever has your mouth drooling he does have a soothing friendly voice. I have my panic attacks under control but try slow deep breathing , get a hot water bottle or rice bag heated in the microwave. Put it across your chest., cuddle up in a comfy blanket and practice some slow deep breathing ( count your breaths) while watching a Chef John video or a knitting one. You will begin to relax enough to fix thins just a bit....you are winning the battle You are nit alone there. I care about you! Practice this, be cool and talk to someone, a friend, me, there are others out there that need a support either on line or in person,
We use thin sliced smoked boston butt(homemade), cheap thin boiled ham, deli style swiss cheese, very good whole sliced kosher pickles + small amount of pickle juice drizzled on the cuban bread and a mixture of Hellman's and small amount of yellow mustard - nothing worse than a dry samwich. These are VERY tasty and popular - we've made 1000's of these. PS - butter the outside of the bread prior to pressing(flattening)
this is crazy that u posted this today cut I just bought Cuban bread an hour ago get home to look up sandwich recipes and this is in my notifications lol
My mouth watered when I heard the knife cutting through. I love Cuban sandwiches but we get our bread in Tampa and they have the palm leaves impressed in. How does that work? I live in Florida and have an overabundance of saw palmetto!
This was the PERFECT opportunity to do the Bobby Flay cut, on the bias, diagonally. Remember, greater surface area appearance..? What a lost opportunity. I will hang my head in shame for you Chef John. (Yoda: Someday Iron Chef you will be.)
Could you make some traditional Welsh recipes? Such has Cawl (traditional soup), Welsh rarebit, Bara brith or Welsh cakes. St David's day is March 1st (the patron Saint of Wales) so would be the perfect time to do it. Would love to see your take on Welsh cooking!
My first Cuban sandwich was at a place in West Palm Beach, Florida named "Joyeria Latina", which I translate to "Latin Gem". Out of this world! No one else has come close. Insipid pork is my biggest complaint. And isn't it funny that it is Swiss (Emmentaler style) cheese and New York City Jewish deli pickle slices that are such an essential part of the sandwich. I learned it was Cuban cigar workers in Key West and/or Tampa that came up with it. I am moving to the Tampa area later this year, oh boy!
Would the flavor profile work if we used Dijon mustard (or even honey mustard) in lieu of yellow mustard (as I don't like the taste of yellow mustard)?
I am Puerto Rican, close enough to Cuban, and they make their sandwiches with mustard and butter and although I love it with lots of pickles and make mine like that, they do not use so many. Their ham is smoked and their pork is roasted so you were quite close, but the mayo addition although good, is not original. we are lucky in Florida we can get Cuban bread at most grocery stores!

Your speech pattern kills me

Because it's illegal in Indiana, I suggest coming to Washington and using marijuana to cure your anxiety.
I've tried a lot of his recipes and they are all delicious :)
I thank you for the kind thought, however I do have access to marijuana should I want it. But it tends to make my anxiety a lot worse. Does tea help?
"Only a psychopath would leave part of the bread unspread..." LMAO... Agreed!
I'm a Florida boy, and I've eaten a TON of Cuban sandwiches in my day. And Chef? If you opened up a sandwich store anywhere near where I lived, you'd have a customer for life! That looks beyond amazing! :)
I think it's the Cayenne that makes Chef John so feisty.
Being from Tampa, I can affirm these will change you forever.
This is a Miami Cubano.

"It's ready to be porked"
my inner child giggled when he said that
after it's been rammed
Kay Lew he makes far too many innuendos for it to be an accident 🤔
why does it sound like he's about to sing
THE BLVCK RATTLER Cos he's happy knowing he's king chef 😘
When I inevitably get a coronary my last words will be: "It's Chef John's fault. And it was totally worth it."
Can you use Castro oil in this recipe?
I want it to be authentic.
Only if you get your pork from the bay of pigs.
I don't know if you mean Castrol or castor XD
If you're talking castor oil, one should note that it's a powerful laxative.
Hopefully he meant castor because Castrol oil would be inedible for humans. Lol. ;-)
shawnski001 LOL!!!!!! 😂 Looooved it! God Bless You!
Dear Chef John on behalf of the Pan-American Federation of Cayenne Pepper Growers I would like to thank you for your services to our industry. I hope you received the check we sent last month.
The Cubano is the king of sandwiches! Thank you, Chef John.
This video was the best thing to happen to this country today. I salute you, Chef John for this amazing sandwich!
Damn it. Now I want a cuban.

That looks amazing.
Nothing beats a good Cubano.
Greatest sandwich on Earth. Also called the Medianoche [Midnight] for some reason.
I've been wanting to try these since I watched the movie Chef.
I have never wanted a sandwich so much...my god, it looks amazing.
I always make this for my fellow employees at my deli and also for certain nice and special customers. They know me for it now, but they were missing out for years.
And! As a 1/2 italian 1/2 puerto rican, who is used to tons of good food, this should be in everyone's cookbook.
This is my perfect sandwich. Thanks Chef John for reminding me I need to eat one.

The cheese is "Emmentaler-Käse" the one with the holes in it!
Best regards from Germany 🇩🇪!
Thanks, Chef! love these sandwiches growing up can't wait to try it.
This video has FINALLY solved one of life's mysteries for me: if Kim Kardashian, Justin Bieber and Blac Chyna were drowning, and I only had time to save one of them, what sandwich would I make? Definitely a Chef John Cuban Sandwich.
It's a miracle! Now I know how to toast both sides of the bread, one being flat and the other not being so flat. Thanks chef John. :D
I love the Cubano. I am so glad you finally did one
This looks so good! Probably shouldn't watch this at night time because now I want one 😂💕
I've been craving a Cuban for weeks!!!!
The sandwich is one of my favorite foods.... I mean I really love sandwiches !
That crust scrape gave me shivers 😍
My mouth is watering as I'm watching this video. It reminds me of the Cubanos I'd get off of a food truck. Except they made it with a Polish sausage, instead of the pulled pork.
Chef John, you are the best! I'm definitely going to make me a Cubano now :)
YAAAAS CUBANO! Hope you're having a great day John!

My favorite! Thank you so much!
I like your cheese placement strategy! It did not go unnoticed. 🧀🧀🧀
Seeing Chef John making the sandwich is like watching a professional Tetris player laying his blocks down
God I love this Channel. All you'll ever need to learn how to cook as a lone bachelor.

love that cheese flip on the second layer to re-position the holes for full coverage.

THX for show
I have had it made with turkey too. YUM! IN TAMPA FL!!!!!
This would be absolutely divine with ropa vieja for the filling.
Tamara Tamtam Morris as someone not from Florida but lucky enough to have a real Cuban restaurant nearby, I have to agree.
Tamara Tamtam Morris piccadillo would be good too
Looks delicious
Notice Chef John says 'Cuban bread', which makes the sandwich a Cuban sandwich rather than any old' ham and cheese sandwich. It's a must.
Gotta try it soon!!!
LOOKS GOOD , KEEP MAKING THEM PLEASE . TTYL.
So good!
OMG! This is perfect!!
Chef John I thank you for caring about hungry birds 🐦!😄🐤🐧🐔

I have not had a Cuban sandwich in a long time makes me want one
Beautiful Cuban Sandwich... Interesting I always thought Cuban food was spicy ...but No... Thank you Chef! :)
'hot cheesy meat bomb' sounds like a hip hop track made by disgruntled short order cook.
yesssss! thank you, chef.
