Quote from Stu about this one: “Firstly, thank you so much for buying this record or slipping it on your turntable or listening to my ramblings. It would have been hilarious and unfathomable to my 21 year old self that anyone beyond our immediate group of friends and a few garage rock nerds would care in the slightest! In fact I don't really remember much of making this record. I think we just wanted to make it weird. And loud. And kinda dumb. Between 19 and 23 years old, nervous and confused, wide eyed, living off goon bags, ciggies, doritos and the dole. Paul Maybury engineered and really guided us through this one. He let me take control of the faders and experiment with his seemingly endless array of recording equipment. I pretended I knew what I was doing. Anyway, he pulled it all together - I shudder to think what it would have sounded like without his road hardened wisdom. Many firsts here - first collaborations and early narrative based music with Brod Smith which would lead to making Eyes like the Sky with him a few months later. More firsts - like working with Jason Galea. Ambrose knew Jase from skateboarding circles and we found his drawing of a royal looking lizard beast-thing stabbing some teddy bear-ish monster. Seemed perfect. He's become part of the furniture and we've worked with him on everything since. Formative years? I think it was that time of your life where you start using your brain for the first time in general. Lizard brain. Who am I? Who was me? Enjoy! Love Stu”
Sorry to hear about your breakup, Brad! It's tough to lose someone you've loved for so long, but there's some truth in the saying, "there's plenty of fish in the sea." Besides, you can still treasure the moments you were happy with her. Hope you feel better soon.
Definitely looking forward to the rest of this series. Their whole discography is a wild ride to say the least and I feel regardless of what kind of music you’re into, they’re bound to have at least one album you’ll at least really like imo
Firstly, I am so sorry hearing about your bad breakup Brad! I hope this personal project of going though all of KGLW's discography keeps you in good company!! Secondly, thank you so much for choosing this band to go through. This band has helped me myself going through extremely tough times and has since became my favorite modern band ever. I had recently attended their Houston show and was absolutely blown away at songs I don't normally listen to! And thank you for showing even more people their music, even with a cult following I still get strange looks when i mention their name, which is fair, but I'm at least glad that someone like you is showing them to a bigger audience!! I hope you recover soon and well!!
I love all of gizz's stuff but the first great project they did isn't until "Float Along - Fill Your Lungs" you'll know what i mean since the first song is a boundary-pushing 16-minute psychedelic prog rock epic
Dude I also did a King Gizz deep dive after a breakup. Their music is not only a great distraction but it’s an absolutely mind blowing journey experiencing their progression from album to album and seeing all the weird and wonderful bits of experimentation they dabble with Hope you continue to enjoy their music and find some value within it to keep you rolling on during this rough patch ❤
Times are tough and I'm sorry to hear about your breakup and mental struggles. Wishing you the best, and thank you for posting videos. Music has been a good medium of escapism lately and these videos have helped too.
So hyped for this. I'm a Nonagon Infinity convert from back in the day, love the freedom of having so many unheard albums to dip into at a moment's notice.
Awesome stuff Brad, this happens to fall in line with me just having listened to every King Gizz album. Great band with a lot of variety and amazing highlights. I feel like they have a bit of something for everyone and look forward to your reactions!
I first stumbled upon gizz after a really rough breakup and also a stint in rehab. The band came to me at my rock bottom and it brought me up to a peak. Love you brad❤
Always wondered why he didn't check out this band earlier. Assumed he wasnt interested since he has been aware of them since 2022. glad to see him giving their discography a real shot
Sam Cherry's Last Shot being your least favourite might mean you don't enjoy the next one, Eyes Like the Sky, very much. Shame you missed the earlier EPs that Teenage Gizzard ended up compiling. Would be good to see you listen through Satanic Slumber Party too even though that's more of an EP.
Cool idea for a series, excited to see it! Also, glad to see that you seemingly have a much healthier relation with your content with the second to last song helping you a bit with your ideation. I hope you start to find more enjoyment in life soon
Haven't watched you in a bit, I'm glad to see you on the recommended tab again 🔥 Also super psyched you're listening to gizz on main again, you're in for a wild ride, you may be made a gizzhead yet!!
went thru their discog like that in the start of this year, glad youre doing it too stuff gonna get better even though it's not looking great rn i'm not talking about kglw discog
Hell yeah Brad finally fully falling down the Gizz rabbit hole, the first couple albums don't do too much for me personally but once they hit their stride (IMO) with Float Along, they just can't stop making some of the most interesting and engaging music out. Hope the boys can be a bit of reprieve for you during this time, they've definitely pulled me through some hard times
Nice! Enjoy your journey! My favorite album is Polygondwanaland and specifically the song crumbling Castle. Their albums start to get really good with Head On/Pill.
If you have thoughts weighing down their head, and/or sadness breaking down their heart: just know that things can get better. It doesn't normally happen at random, though. You must wipe those tears, lift that head, and mend that heart. Depression is very real and it is one of the hardest things to get rid of in this world. Most never remember what it's like to live without those dark thoughts floating through their head. But you can be better than most. Inside each and every one of us is a heart that wants to keep beating. Every day is a new day. It's comforting knowing that you're not alone in the struggle to keep fighting. There are millions of us out there. One quote that might hit hard. It went something like this: No matter what your past is like, you still have a future. You could wake up tomorrow and meet the love of your life. You could save an innocent child from running into the street after a ball. You could make a difference. You see, as long as you wake up every day and embrace the life that was given to you, you are making a difference in this world. We need every single one of you. Our world would not be the same without each and every one of us here to help one another. There are many bad apples but many many more good ones. You, are a good one. Even if you've had a couple of bites taken out of you, you are still capable of becoming a beautiful apple tree.

Polygondwandaland is the GOAT gizz, can’t wait to hear your thoughts on it….I’ve got to wait a while tho
Garage Liddiard is a reference to Gareth Liddiard, Australian artist behind The Drones and Tropical Fuck Storm

Very keen on what you think of the whole discography. I’ve been listening to all of their albums this year. It’s an absolute journey.
Sea of Trees is super underrated. I always kind of wished they ended the album with it.
