Charlotte Beavers What? I dunno. It could have been said in a different way, but my sadness over Josh comes from just knowing the game, not just watching MatPat's theory about Josh's mental illness (I don't agree with MatPat's diagnosis of schizophrenia btw).
Its crazy how much you miss out on by making wrong choices they really weren't kidding when they said choose carefully lol. Thanks for sharing I never would've knew about this
The first clue sam can find is that clip board on the wall right next to the vent she crawled out of that pretty much instantly gives him away. And I know this is 2021 6 years later
Her bag with her better choice in clothes is on the doorknob right next to her old clothes. Compression pants and the track jacket were better for surviving the night anyways.
Neat to know this was an option. I only ever saw people run because, and I was in agreement with them, they were all pretty much convinced he was going to find Sam anyway.
Sam, saying what I've been thinking the whole game. Also these videos are so amazing. I never realized there was so much more to the story and the characters. These unpopular situations are so rare that it's hard to place them in the game, which leaves you with this mind blown feeling.
I know he was mentally ill and with two sisters dead (or so he thought) because of his friends pranks, but the thing I don't like is that the ones he, not the Wendigos, tortured the most where Sam and Chris. Sam was stalked during a bath, got her clothes stolen, had to run away from a psycho with only a towel and her bare foot and had to watch Josh "die". Chris had to choose wether to brutally kill a girl he has a huge crush on or his best friend, and see their death, and later he is going to choose wether to kill himself or his crush. Emily, Matt, Mike, Ashley or Jess, who took part in the prank and organized it, barely got anything. Emily and Jess, the ones who organized it didn't get tortured by Josh, only by Wendigos. Mike, who tricked Hannah, also got only chased by Wendigos. Matt, who recorded? Deers and Wendigos. Ashley, who did took less part in the prank, was passively tortured, used as a subject in Chris's tortures, scared with the ghost thing and hit if she had the scissors. Chris and Sam, his best friends and who didn't take part in the prank, were the ones he went for the most, and that's what I don't like and find unrealistic, I don't blame Josh, though.
Years later, and thanks to both Bryan and Amelia. I've found out there's *ANOTHER* alternative to this scene. When viewing Hannah's Diary as Ashley back in the doll house. You can actually flip it back to to dates before the invitations to the party. In those pages, Hannah writes about how she never knew her own brother was sick. Later when Josh is revealed to have been the Psycho, Chris will actually come to his best friend's defense saying "he's off his meds"
+Me Me Well,...Technically, Josh wasn't responsible for Mike's fingers since Mike went to the Sanitarium because the Wendigo captured Jessica. But I do agree on the rest ;)
I love that she says “Your fingerprints were all over this.” Because I think the twist of Josh being the maniac was kind of obvious. And since Sam discovers all those clues, se can see it was him all the time
Of course it was obvious. Why do you think he got himself "killed" so early on? Every youtuber I've watched play this has almost immediately gotten weird vibes off of Josh, and immediately think he's the most likely suspect. It's a very meta way of subverting expectations because practically everyone is going to choose to save the love interest over the creepy guy, and there goes the number one suspect.
Doesn't Sam find the schematic to Josh's "fake" body that gets cut in half? I believe it's on the wall behind her after exiting the vent. Out of all the playthroughs I've watched, only one person ever turned around and noticed it. Does discovering this have any impact on the dialogue when Josh reveals himself?
+{-~Unknown~-} Oh, sorry didn't get it. I saw it too. But it was russian youtuber BlackSilverUfa. He was streaming it.. And he didn't find the recorder. (I mean there are his videos here, but it's in russian) (oh, schematics in english btw:)
+{-~Unknown~-} You're welcome. btw Sam says about it to Mike when he found her. (Sam):"I found schematics for the exact same mechanism with a saw, but that's a trick, that was a dummy". (Mike):"Slow down a bit" (Sam):"Mayb Josh is not dead" (Mike):"Wtf is going on around here..." And in the case if Sam finds the schematics and doesn't find the recorder with Josh's voice, it doesn't impact the Reveal dialogue (they say exactly the same if Sam got caught)
In a way you're right, but on the other hand, maybe not. I feel like it makes sense that he focused every single one of his brain cells into this plan ;)
Tijey Ri Maybe you're right, maybe he was able to focus himself entirely on his elaborate plan while only having some bouts of snapping emotionally or hallucinations. On the other hand I think this could be another case where media or fiction portrays mental illness incorrectly in possibly a stigmatizing and stereotyping way. Of course it's just dramatized fiction but I hope people don't take their cues on people having problems from fiction. Bottom line is that people with depression and such don't just go all Psycho. At least not at a higher rate than those without a condition like this.
He did make a lot of mistakes though, if he hadn't had a fake death scene I'm pretty sure he would have been suspect number one. If you play through again you realize that if they had any suspicion that Josh might be alive, it would have been completely transparent that he'd done it. The movie stuff, the fact that Josh was the one who had the idea to use the Ouji board, how the psycho is clearly doing this to avenge Hannah and Beth. Even Josh's acting in the saw scene is pretty terrible if you watch it without being scared and trying to figure out if you can save them.
Usul573 he also had a full year to plan this, with ranging amounts of lucidity in that time. He could have put most of it together in his clearer moments.
whoah I never got that Rami was always slurring when he played Josh because it was one of the withdrawal affects, that's such a good detail for him to use holy shit
I got this in my playthrough! I always chose to hide and ran when I thought it was too dangerous. I also found something with Mike that I haven't seen in any other playthrough either. When you play as Mike after chasing Jess being dragged to the mines he follows the flamethrower dude right? There's a QTE to slide under a closing door but if you fail the QTE Mike finds an alternate path out through the mines - Mike uses his lighter and there's a small jump care with a Wendigo face through some planks. Never knew it existed and it freaked me out a little.
It's sad because same and josh were quite close for a while. And in the end where she learns what happened to him she's really upset and wishes he talked to her. That's so sad :( I kinda want a game exploring Sam's depression and learning to live with it. Idk I just know sam's going to struggle a lot
Damn, before I have watched many youtubers' Until Dawn gameplay but none of them were hiding. Then, I went to visit my cousin who has PS4 and bought Until Dawn so I started playing. It was my first time playing it and I was really careful at choosing options and I also chose the option "Hide" with Sam and couldn't believe hoe many things about Josh I found which made me tear up a bit to be honest. (BTW I got 'em all alive too)
Yes but she also mentions about Dr hill being dead look at 4:24 to 4:34 she says to him "it mentioned a plan like a bad idea now he's dead." who is he? Is it Dr Hill that's? What I meant.
Sam only said that because she thinks Josh actually got killed. If you've played the game then you know Sam gets shown a video of Josh being "killed". I know it's fake, but at this point Sam doesn't know that. So basically she means "It mentioned a plan like a bad idea, and now he (Josh) is dead." She had suspicions of Josh being involved, and that's what "killed" Josh. At least that's what Sam thinks. I've played through the game, and found all the clues, and made all the choices made in this video. But I still don't get that cutscene in the beginning. I got the cutscene where everybody (including Sam) were shocked that Josh didn't actually die.
You missed one clue: at 01:39 you can go to the right, to the opposite side of the room (not shown by the camera as the way you have to go), and you will find the blueprints Josh used to build the machine to fake his murder, indicating where he had to be standing so the saw wouldn't get to him.
Since I’ve played this game a few times, I actually discovered this interaction by accident. I try different things every time and I had assumed that Josh always catches Sam, so when he didn’t, I was shookk but I definitely loved seeing this interaction
Late but: What happened to Josh is just so sad. He is the real vicitim out of the whole story. He lost his sisters, he had a mental disease and wasnt treated right, his friends left him and he is the only one not being able to survive
Ok but damn Sam is brave as hell, she just peaks directly into the room where her aggressor who literally JUST tried to drug her knowing she's dead if they look back. If I saw that I would bolt for the hills or lodge or whatever
Niclas Bengtsson Maybe it's a glich for once. I had a glitch too but it wasn't this scene. In chapter 8 when the Wendigo is chasing Emily I succeded all QTE's and went left but I still a "Don't Move!'. It could be a glitch.
The writers don’t even know what to do with this one. All Josh can say is, “Really?” and “Nobody got hurt!” The dialogue is actually marginally better if you let Sam get caught. Even with all the holes filled in, Josh’s plan still doesn’t make any sense because he let the people most directly responsible for the prank (Mike and Jess) wander off into the woods to find a love cabin, while two others (Chris and Ashley) are tortured for the majority of the night and one of them didn’t even participate in the prank! It’s insane even for an insane person. And I would know.
I for some reason always thought that Sam no matter what got caught by Josh, but I played though it again recently and was so surprised when she actually escaped! It made me more excited for playing it to see what was different with the facet she got away
So, he has Dementia? No wait, Schizopjrenia, but is being treated for depression... Which means he's taking the wrong meds.... And depression meds treat for the lack of dopamine, while the problem with Schiz. is the abnormal amount of dopamine in someone's system. Yikes
If you look at the side effects from immediate withdrawal, hallucinations are included, which makes sense since according to the game he's been off his medication for some time
I've never seen the popular version. I mean, that I always hide in that little elevator shaft or whatever it is when I am running away from the killer[Josh]. I guess next time I play I'll have to keep running. Try to get caught.
you probably have to make certain choices when interacting with josh; like feeling weird when Josh talks about Sam or being serious when talking about the bat. Or maybe something else. Not sure though.
John Rambu Maybe but I realise that it may have been because I didn't find all of the evidence in the secret room. I missed the blueprint thing of the fake bodies with the segment behind for Josh to hide in, but found everything else so Sam knew that he was involved but not that it was him.
The real question is....does Sam put on her regular clothes or does she stick with the towel which i think is glued to her skin like WTF how doesn't that thing fall of!
Why does Sam say "it was obviously you" even though she had no clue that there was even a psycho? She doesn't even know about the saw trap with Chris and Ashley.
+Me Me look further into the video: she finds clues, if she escaped the psycho, such as Josh's psychiatric files, phone text messages with Dr.Hill etc. ;)
Sam doesn't say that just because she escapes "the psycho." You have to have found his phone and the diagram of how he chopped himself in half. It wouldn't make sense for her to say it if she hadn't found any of the stuff that gives it away even if she did escape him. I've played through it before where she just finds the recording of Josh's voice but it doesn't change the dialogue to this. You need to find more so that Sam can put two and two together more easily.
Honestly wish this scenario wasn’t so hard to get. Sam honestly was super useless during the majority of the game and her only claim to fame is saving Mike at the end. She needed this scene to make her character more useful in the grand scheme of things.
I’m literally so pissed I got caught, I’m new to using the ps4 and TERRIBLE at quick time events so I missed it... but hey, it’s just a practice game...
One thing you got to say, it was obviously Josh. Especially if you’ve ever read Agatha Christie’s “And Then There Were None.” I’m pretty sure the writers borrowed liberally from that source too. For one thing, nobody would have a more sure knowledge of the place than someone who actually lived there. He was the only one who had time to set up traps before they got up to the mountain. He had no clear motive for inviting them all back to the place where his sister’s died, unless he was planning to get back at them in some way. (I really never believed he was trying to find closure, or memorialize his sister’s by having a wild party on the anniversary of their disappearance, nobody in their right mind would do such a thing!) With the exception of one incident, he was always somewhere else when traps were being sprung and people were screaming. There are just so many holes in this plot! You could make an hour-long video and still not cover them all!
It is because The Psycho's part is intended to be a fake plot twist to distract the player from the true plot of the game: the Wendigos. The Psycho and the entire Psycho plot actually borrow a lot from cult classic horror films so It is meant to be obvious and the first part of the game is intended to be cliché-like both to pay homage to said films and to serve as a distraction from the Wendigos.
Awww...that "crying out for help" line really got to me.
In the end, Josh is the real victim. And in the end, there is no way to save him.
+barbaro267 oh yea totally, I don't think that anyway anyone really hates Josh ;)
+Tijey Ri so if sam escapes what happens with ash and chris? cuz i know they find her if she gets caught
Isn't that a quote from game theory's video on until dawn?
They still go to look for, and are still caught by Josh. The difference is that instead of Sam, the doll wearing Sam's clothes is in the chair.
Charlotte Beavers What? I dunno. It could have been said in a different way, but my sadness over Josh comes from just knowing the game, not just watching MatPat's theory about Josh's mental illness (I don't agree with MatPat's diagnosis of schizophrenia btw).

“Greetings pilgrims” BYE-
Josh is so funny.
I like the Sam scenes best 😁😁
Wow, all this time and I NEVER knew this was a thing.
I for some reason always thought that Sam no matter what got caught by Josh, but I played though it again recently and was so surprised when she actually escaped! It made me more excited for playing it to see what was different with the facet she got away
I got this one and i was confused cause i watched jacksepiceye play this first and my dialouge was different but now i know why thank u
^-^
Still pissed because I got found when I was in the elevator shaft
So, he has Dementia? No wait, Schizopjrenia, but is being treated for depression... Which means he's taking the wrong meds.... And depression meds treat for the lack of dopamine, while the problem with Schiz. is the abnormal amount of dopamine in someone's system.
Yikes
If you look at the side effects from immediate withdrawal, hallucinations are included, which makes sense since according to the game he's been off his medication for some time
It sounded like the psycho said HOYAK
I've never seen the popular version. I mean, that I always hide in that little elevator shaft or whatever it is when I am running away from the killer[Josh]. I guess next time I play I'll have to keep running. Try to get caught.
I did this but didn't get this alternate dialogue?
you probably have to make certain choices when interacting with josh; like feeling weird when Josh talks about Sam or being serious when talking about the bat.
+NEPTXNE You have to find all the clues once in the basement to get Sam to say that.
out of the 5 walkthroughs of this game surprisingly only my favorite youtuber got this result shout out to chris smoove
Thanks so much
+Shadowsnake you are welcome ;)
I never knew this could happen
wow my favorite part of until dawn
"Hook like and sinker for every little stinker."
Auh Josh.. your to good for these sons of bitches.
The real question is....does Sam put on her regular clothes or does she stick with the towel which i think is glued to her skin like WTF how doesn't that thing fall of!
i love mikes “what the fuck is going on around here?”
Josh deserved better.
crud, I missed the cell phone.
Why does Sam say "it was obviously you" even though she had no clue that there was even a psycho? She doesn't even know about the saw trap with Chris and Ashley.
+Me Me look further into the video: she finds clues, if she escaped the psycho, such as Josh's psychiatric files, phone text messages with Dr.Hill etc. ;)
She was being chased down by the psycho and he showed her these videos and then the hunt and then depending on what you do she will get caught or not
If you found the phone why don’t you just call the police 😂🤦♂️
There's no service. 🤦🏾♂️
@@knightfallprotocol bye because I commented this 3 years ago
@@baeebgrl then why does it say 1 year ago? 🧐
@@knightfallprotocol wtf it said 3 I swear
If I were in their skin I would admit to him that he scared shit outta me with this "Big prank"
Can't blame my Josh
You forgot the scheme hiding on a wall in the first room she gets to.
don't ask me but it all gave it away that it was one of the teens when the "psycho" said "FUCK!"
+kitty want power! yea, I think that was the point! Also when he said "live and learn". ;)
Yeah😂*flashback*
wow never seen anyone got this one before, nice
you can actually discover also that Josh faked his death in this same site
Sam doesn't say that just because she escapes "the psycho." You have to have found his phone and the diagram of how he chopped himself in half. It wouldn't make sense for her to say it if she hadn't found any of the stuff that gives it away even if she did escape him. I've played through it before where she just finds the recording of Josh's voice but it doesn't change the dialogue to this. You need to find more so that Sam can put two and two together more easily.
I'm surprised that you can't get caught, I wanted so badly not to get caught but got caught anyways.
Can Sam teach me the ways of the antigravity towel?
Honestly wish this scenario wasn’t so hard to get. Sam honestly was super useless during the majority of the game and her only claim to fame is saving Mike at the end. She needed this scene to make her character more useful in the grand scheme of things.
She's my favourite character
I’m literally so pissed I got caught, I’m new to using the ps4 and TERRIBLE at quick time events so I missed it... but hey, it’s just a practice game...
I want an until dawn 2.
spotty112 2 The Inpatient.
The Inpatient takes place during the 1950's I think. About the same time the Wendigos killed all of those people in the mines.
@@drivingwren the inpatient is a prequel i think they meant that they wanted a sequel with the same characters
wow I've never seen this 😮
I couldn't find the bat ...
damn these were the clues i was missing. i moved when i hid
at 4:08 Sam fiinds her clothes on manekiny but sam prefers towel than her clothes
Really really gangsta shit
The RUclipsr I watched who played this game had also the same dialogues as this.
