I fed the concept to ChatGPT. This was the result:
Title: "Steal My Girl: A Purge Night Tale"
Becky was not your average One Direction fan. Yes, she loved their music and had posters of them all over her room, but she also had a black belt in karate and was a champion archer. Her unique set of skills would become the boys' only hope during the most dangerous night of the year, The Purge.
Becky's father, a well-respected security engineer, was responsible for designing the band's home security system. However, he fell ill just before Purge night, leaving the system vulnerable. Knowing about Becky's skills, he made a desperate call to her, entrusting her with the responsibility to protect the boys.
Armed with her recurve bow and quiver of arrows, Becky arrived at the mansion just as the sirens announced the start of The Purge. She quickly assessed the compromised security system and bolstered the defenses as best as she could. But, with time against her, some vulnerabilities remained.
As the night wore on, the mansion became a target for a group of ruthless purgers who believed kidnapping the world-famous band would lead to a handsome ransom. They infiltrated the mansion, bypassing the half-functional security system. Becky, hidden in the shadows, readied her bow.
When the first attacker approached, Becky fired an arrow straight into his chest. Panic erupted among the purgers, and chaos ensued. Harry, Liam, Niall, Louis, and Zayn cowered in a safe room, listening to the sounds of combat echoing through the mansion.
Throughout the night, Becky held her ground against the intruders, using her karate skills when her arrows ran out. It was a fierce battle, but Becky was determined to keep the boys safe.
By dawn, Becky was exhausted but victorious. The Purge ended, and the band was safe. Stepping out of the shadows, she approached the safe room. At her knock, the door creaked open, and five pairs of awe-struck eyes met hers.
"Who...who are you?" Louis asked, his voice shaky.
Becky smiled wearily, "Just a fan."
As the band members processed the night's events, they realized how drastically their lives could have changed if not for their unexpected protector. Becky had shown them the strength and determination of a true hero, forever altering their perspective.
From that day forward, One Direction not only made sure their security was never compromised again, but also dedicated a song to Becky, their lifesaver. It was a ballad called "Guardian Angel," and it instantly became a hit, a reminder to their fans that heroes came in all forms, sometimes even as teenage girls with a black belt in karate and a recurve bow.

Would also explain why the girls in the story often don't know or want to pursue this man and have to be told they are important by others in their life and woo'ed (or assaulted i guess) by the boy in question. it demonstrates that the important, super cute and cool boy loves them and is obsessed with them without the girl herself having to really do any work or having to admit she likes anyone first/at all

There was a missed opportunity in these stories to do a role reversal, and have the protagonist break into the band's house (because they all live together and do everything together) during The Purge. But of course, it would turn out that the house was a honey pot, and the band was using it to kidnap people. They would watch for people trying to break in, and if it was someone they wanted to capture, they would disable enough parts of the security system so that the person could get in, but without making it obvious that it was a trap.
When people were captured, they would say to their victims, "In our house, you can come in, but you can never leave. You can only go..."

I get why they did, but tbh, it’s pretty normal for kids to write this stuff now. I’m 24 now, but when I was young, I wrote a lot of fanfiction. When I have kids, I’ll just let them express themselves because the phase will pass soon. But, if it’s THIS kind of fan fiction, I would be deeply concerned and would need to explain toxic/abusive “romance” is not good.

I've noticed that in these dramatic readings there are sometimes, like, legitimately decent flares of prose in there sometimes. Either that, or some generally decent ideas that aren't executed on properly.
I'm sure some of these teens are gonna end up with some pretty solid writing skills. Either that or they'll feel too embarrassed to continue, but I hope it's the former.
2 issues with this comment:
1, They are working, it doesn't matter if you think what they produce is good. They are trying their best and putting in effort for something they enjoy.
2, The definition of "skills" they were using in this comment was referring to 'a particular ability' which, like stated before, doesn't mean it has to be amazing and beautiful. I'm not the best writer, but I still have some skills because I was taught the basics in school.
Side note: Just let people enjoy what they want without putting them down.
Me too. Only way to get good is to start all. Like I've seen a bunch of other channels do fanfic readings and honestly, through all the cringe and obvious signs these are young kids, I can see some good potential, or flares of stuff that can be molded and shaped into style. I hope they keep at it, who knows
True! I wish I had their guts in making bad fics and published it for the world to see. That way, at least I would have started from somewhere. Now that I'm older, it feels even harder to start writing and just enjoying the process.

@@MadisontheLawyeringArtist everybody experiences childhood and understand romance as a kid differently. I certainly had a stockholm syndrome fanfic written up and only really realised what I had written when I looked back on it a couple years later.
To be fair, when you are that age, you fantasize about A LOT of fucked up shit. Mostly you forget about it when you grow up and if you remember, you are just completely embarrassed about it.

that 'killing management' story is a fascinating piece of culture. the fandom HATED 1D's management and believed they were the source of all evil and super controlling of The Boys and the only reason Larry (Louis and Harry) were closeted and you know how people get about ships

I can't believe this went from cringeworthy fanfics to "After her stepdad shoots her boyfriend, one girl must set aside her feelings and train One Direction to fight off invaders during the Purge."
(Speaking as a college aged woman) I think because teen girls aren't expected to be the targeted demographic of more "serious" media, they adapt serious adult genres for the media they already consume. Some of the most popular genres for fanfic of any media aimed at teen girls are always things like apocalypse, gang/mafia, etc. But their interpretations focus more on character development and interpersonal relationships. I'm pretty sure even if the kidnapping itself was legal, keeping someone in your basement once the purge is over would constitute unlawful confinement. So I guess you'd have to let them go like 5 minutes before it's over, just to stay in the clear.

It should be fine as long as you don't commit any additional crimes afterwards, and as a bonus, freeing them counts as rescuing them.

You are continuing to keep them confined to a location against their will, which is a crime in its own right, separate from the kidnapping itself. In any case, this is just another reason why the purge would be a silly idea, it would cause way too much ambiguity in regards to applying the law correctly.
@@cstef5592 I am not keeping them confined to a location. If I lock someone in a closet during the Purge, I don't have to come back and let them out before the Purge ends. Legally the only difference is that it's happening on my property, which doesn't matter.

I feel Jim was very harshly maligned in that story. He marries the woman he loves, works hard to protect his family during the chaos that is the purge, tries to be a loving father to his step-children, looks out for his step-daughter's best interests by warning her against seeing an older man who's willing to break into her house without her knowledge and steal her clothes from her wardrobe.
Then, during The Purge when, naturally enough, he's on edge, said older boyfriend thunders down the stairs in nothing but a dressing gown to confront him. Jim, desperate to protect his family, fires a shot, killing the would-be intruder.
He's clearly distraught. He didn't intend to kill his daughter's boyfriend. He even lets her carry her boyfriend's corpse up to her room for... some reason.
And the comments DARE to call him "Stupid Jim!"?
No. I will not stand for this. Join me in defending Jim's good name. We shall write a story on WattPad to restore Jim's reputation!

I almost miss the days when fic authors always inserted commentary directly into the fic. It was so cheesy and fun.
And their life update at the end of each chapter, that's the only reason I read these fanfics; to see the crazy drama some of these kids went through at the end.
God, the days of reading smutty fanfic just to read of a teen conservative Christian girl account tales of horror of almost being caught or actually being outed as [smutwriter1d] and yelling at one of "us snitches" and having to move the fic to an account her teachers, parents and congregation didn't know about. 😔 My teen years were so good.
