    Without oatmeal my family and I WOULD HAVE STARVED during world war 2. My mother could not afford eggs or meat, nor chicken , so every morning and many times evening we had oatmeal with syrup from sugar beets, which she produced herself, by going into the rich farmer's field in the dark of the night and helping herself to some beets, which she rendered into syrup.Oone morning a poor little mouse wanted some too and fell into the jar and drowned .My practical German mother fished out the critter and re-boiled the syrup , yes we consumed it ! C'est la vie in 1942! Now my grand children will not eat an apple with a bruise ! Very sad.

    Dietitian here. LOVED THIS VIDEO!!!!! Thank you for explaining the truth and sharing the importance of the differences in eating naked carbs as opposed to having them with protein and/or fat. There is much misinformation out there and makes me so sad that ppl actually believe ppl like Gundry, the carnivore community, etc. like, ppl just eat real food!!! Also, when oats are cooked and cooled they are a great source of resistant starch!!!!!!

    I think I've found what I was looking for with Ivana's advice. I keep hearing how bad certain foods are like oatmeal. So there is the extreme out there of carnivore and keto diets but I want a more well-balanced approach. It's like instinctively I think that we should eat a balanced diet of protein, fruit, vegetables, and minimal highly processed foods. I really believe a balanced-approached with an emphasis on higher protein and lower calories is sustainable, just not extreme. Thanks, I'm glad I found someone who takes a common sense approach.

    I love oatmeal, but I usually eat 1.5 servings (3/4C dried) and, instead of the milk & yogurt, I add a scoop of protein powder and just a little milk, to blend. A maple or PB flavour is fantastic, but any flavour works and then I'll add in some fruit, usually berries or banana or apple, whatever I'm in the mood for. This keeps me full for hours. 😋 That Fairlife milk is great and the suggestion to cook the oats in it, is a good alternative that I haven't tried, yet. 🙏 Love your videos. 🧡

    Good balanced take on the subject. I find eating the same meals every day helps me with calorie management, and for breakfast I have 1/2 cup oats cooked in water and crack 2 eggs in to cook with the oats. Along with a protein shake and some frozen blueberries I think that gives me a good start to the day.

    I’m getting mixed information all over the Internet. Does oatmeal cause inflammation?

  • @testdep
    @testdep 8 месяцев назад +1

    Yes! Nothing but facts from Ivana! 💯
    I've personally experienced and can confirm two things here:
    6:55 with age I became very sensitive to blood sugar spikes and can absolutely confirm the blood sugar spikes no matter what you eat, it could be a bowl of salad or steamed rice, if it's enough to make you full your sugar will go UP.
    7:56 yesss, I got caught in this mind trap and managed to gain 10 lbs while doing int fasting (literally eating once a day for a year+). I blamed my insuline resistance, but in fact I ignored calories intake. My insuline resistance is still there but I cut calories and guess what, I'm finally losing weight. Just for the record, I've always been average slim so losing even a few pounds of fat takes a lot of effort.
    And speaking of oatmeal, most people have a habit of eating it with sugars, syrops, etc added on top. So I can understand why some fitness influencers are so against it. Because I have yet to meet someone who can eat plain oatmeal with no sugar or butter or anything and actually enjoy it. Except few people who likes to eat oatmeal out of the box, like some potato chips 😁

    • @IvanaChapman
      @IvanaChapman  8 месяцев назад +1

      You've made some great points! We do tend to see a decrease in our insulin sensitivity as we get older, so it's often helpful to reduce carb intake slightly. And you're right that many people have oatmeal with syrup/honey. The maple and brown sugar single serving packets I showed in the video wouldn't be a great choice for breakfast on their own, but they're enjoyable as an occasional treat.

    Hi Ivana, very nice explanation. But I went keto+IF 3 years ago and recently I am leaning into pure carnivore so no oatmeal for me. I don’t know if I could make this comparison since I am a 34 year old male but it seems to me you and I have complete opposite body types because even moderate amount of carbs make me store hard to lose fat even though I visit the gym regularly. But what’s the point if I have to do heavy exercise everyday just to maintain low body fat. I believe what works for one might not be the best option for someone else.

    I just do not accept any downsides to oats or oatmeal at all. It's 100% a good thing to be eating often. For that matter whenever I've eaten noticeably more of it at times in my life, I've been healthier to degrees and I've dropped pounds even if I didn't specifically mean to do that. People who refuse to eat oats, do so because they don't like it. That's the main reason anyway. Even they know it's good for you. I don't tend to get those packets of instant oats with the flavors, but of course since I'm thinking of it now I might if I see a good sale price. When I've had them around, normally I'll just use the packet combined with regular oats and you still get the same added flavors, just not as much sugar. The really good thing about rolled oats especially is that even with prices spiking (Thanks Joe Biden) in the stores, if you aren't too much of a nut about "contamination" from wheat or whatever else, you can almost always find cheaper brands in Walmart to get what you need, lots less than Quaker and still less than Kroger brand.

    There’s so much misinformation out there - nobody will ever convince me that oatmeal is bad for me!

    I get hungry after I eat oatmeal. I don’t put sugar on it. So sometimes I use it for baking and then that’s OK.

    I think people are just over complicating it 😭 just add some protein powder and fruit to oatmeal and have it for breakfast lol it's not that deep

    Eat all carbs, even whole grains, with a fat or protein… Yogurt, nuts, nut butters, olive oil, butter, etc.
    This will slow the absorption and lessen the insulin spike.

      Yes. You said this in the video. That’s the reason I reiterated it for people reading the comments. I was agreeing with you.
      I also wanted to agree you about Dr. Steven Gundry, the purveyor of junk science. He’s now calling ORGANIC old fashioned oatmeal carcinogenic. There’s ZERO evidence in medical science supporting this. He just likes being outrageous to sell books.

      Yes. I’m just reiterating what you said in the video about hacking glucose spikes with a fat or protein.
