When i first heard how bad oatmeal was, i kept eating
Without oatmeal my family and I WOULD HAVE STARVED during world war 2. My mother could not afford eggs or meat, nor chicken , so every morning and many times evening we had oatmeal with syrup from sugar beets, which she produced herself, by going into the rich farmer's field in the dark of the night and helping herself to some beets, which she rendered into syrup.Oone morning a poor little mouse wanted some too and fell into the jar and drowned .My practical German mother fished out the critter and re-boiled the syrup , yes we consumed it ! C'est la vie in 1942! Now my grand children will not eat an apple with a bruise ! Very sad.
I love oatmeal thank you so much for making this video 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
I almost quit eating oatmeal because what these people were saying about it but I've never had any issues eating oatmeal at all if anything oatmeal makes me feel healthy and good, I enjoy eating oatmeal I don't enjoy eating meat but I do eat meat but oatmeal is AWESOME
Yes! Eat what you love and what agrees with you!
This is the best video I’ve come across in a long time!! You’ve got a new subscriber. Thanks for mixing sensibility with education!
Ok, I just found you today and really appreciate your balanced and straight forward approach in these videos.
Thank you! Was looking for this exact video!
You will not experience hunger if you are mindful of eating oatmeal. Slow eating and chew thoroughly to absorb nutrients in your body. You will not feel hungry up to 4 hours.
Me too
Daily taking oatmeal l loss weight and loss Hair also
Life change 😊🥰😍
Maple & brown sugar is the Ongod first choice when your scratching that itch, Your de-bunking of the present day food nazi’s is so welcoming and refreshing to know there’s still people on the same boat as me, keep your wings strong mademoiselle 🙏❤️
Very good well balanced information ...thank you!
I enjoy adding stuff to my organic rolled oats like flaxseed, chia seeds, broken walnuts, banana, pumpkin seeds, a teaspoon of honey and a couple of dashes of cinnamon.
Good for you. How creative 😅
I remember writing you in the past bc I couldn’t lose weight counting calories 😢. I’m now finally losing weight by lessening all the protein fat and eating mostly plants including oats everyday ❤❤❤
Glad you found something that works for you.
It’s easier to just count carbohydrate if anything. No piont in counting calories.
I look at Oatmeal like dessert. Instead of eating cake I'll eat some oatmeal with real maple syrup and grass fed butter. It helps keep you full after eating dinnwr. I wouldn't eat it first thing in the morning unless I'm going to do some exercise. I love Bob's red mill organic oats
Great video. Solid information and I love how you anticipate people’s counter arguments. Great work!
I just found Fairchild milk and I wish I had known about it sooner with the added protein content.
Glad you like the video! 😊 I discovered the higher protein milk a few years ago. It's such an easy way of getting more protein.
Great video! Thank you.
Excellent video, I found it very Helpful. Thanks for the posting!
I eat gluten-free oatmeal with Fruit, flaxseed, ground up walnuts & a bit of yogurt.
I was wondering when you were going to make a video. I have been watching all the old videos! Great video as always! 😊
Glad you're enjoying the videos! 😊 It's been tough keeping up with the long videos, with my new coaching program underway. Got more new stuff coming up though!
Dietitian here. LOVED THIS VIDEO!!!!! Thank you for explaining the truth and sharing the importance of the differences in eating naked carbs as opposed to having them with protein and/or fat. There is much misinformation out there and makes me so sad that ppl actually believe ppl like Gundry, the carnivore community, etc. like, ppl just eat real food!!! Also, when oats are cooked and cooled they are a great source of resistant starch!!!!!!
I really appreciate that, thank you! 😊 Good point about resistant starch. That would have fit in nicely when I mentioned how oatmeal is good for digestion.
totally agree!
I stopped eating bread three weeks ago and eat oat meal twice a day with protein. I feel great. Dropping fat. Nit sure what the problem is... i buy organic rolled oats at costco. I just microwave some water for about 3 minutes, put in the oats, protein powder and cocoa to sit for 5ish minutes. Works for me dunno. Loving your videos just found your videos recently.
Thank you very much Ivana. I really enjoy eating oats and for years have taken them uncooked. I take steel cut, rolled or old fashioned oats.
TY for this information. I watched another RUclips nutritionist who said very negative things about oatmeal, then during her sponsor commercial, non grain ‘oatmeal’ was being sold. 🧐 and yet so many comments thanked her for the info. 😮
That figures. I'm glad that I was able to present an unbiased viewpoint for you.
I think I've found what I was looking for with Ivana's advice. I keep hearing how bad certain foods are like oatmeal. So there is the extreme out there of carnivore and keto diets but I want a more well-balanced approach. It's like instinctively I think that we should eat a balanced diet of protein, fruit, vegetables, and minimal highly processed foods. I really believe a balanced-approached with an emphasis on higher protein and lower calories is sustainable, just not extreme. Thanks, I'm glad I found someone who takes a common sense approach.
Well-balanced is how I like to think of my approach, to both eating and exercise. Thank you. 😊
I eat my oatmeal with some Olive oil, flax seeds, whole milk and cinnamon.
I love this video! Finally, a logical approach to diet and eating. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful 😊
@@IvanaChapman Do you have a video on IBS?
I love oatmeal, but I usually eat 1.5 servings (3/4C dried) and, instead of the milk & yogurt, I add a scoop of protein powder and just a little milk, to blend. A maple or PB flavour is fantastic, but any flavour works and then I'll add in some fruit, usually berries or banana or apple, whatever I'm in the mood for. This keeps me full for hours. 😋 That Fairlife milk is great and the suggestion to cook the oats in it, is a good alternative that I haven't tried, yet. 🙏 Love your videos. 🧡
Good balanced take on the subject. I find eating the same meals every day helps me with calorie management, and for breakfast I have 1/2 cup oats cooked in water and crack 2 eggs in to cook with the oats. Along with a protein shake and some frozen blueberries I think that gives me a good start to the day.
Bravo 👏 this was great !! Thank you !!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I don’t add sugar, low end glycemic, lost weight and take metformin so I’m going to keep eating it. It’s not the only food in my diet. My great aunt is 90 and has eaten it every day for decades. I hope I make it to 36. It also helps my chronic idiopathic constipation.
Great video!
I love Bakery on Main oatmeal. Thank you for this truthful video.
Iam so GALD I seen This wow,Thank You
One of the best, common sense videos that i've come across.
❤❤ thanks for your ideas and lessons learned 🌷 greetings from Roermond in the Netherlands 🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷
Wow. Reasonable, rational, and informative! I think it is better to avoid instant oats, but still better than what most people eat.
I love oatmeal, and I love that is so healthy, I also love your reassuring information. By the way, you look amazing.
Interesting video
Thx. Ivana, the voice of science ( and the word of reason ) are a rarity on the Net. Age ? I am a youngster still ( going on 94 ) so am taking all these with a bit of own experience .
Thank you for this video! I needed to hear this.
They make a low sugar version of the Quaker instant. That is very good. I'm busy mornings. It's one of my go-tos. I tried to pair it with a protein like a. Hard-boiled egg, cottage cheese, yogurts. I know it sounds weird but I like to make the instant oatmeal and let it cool a bit and then I mix in a container of vanilla Greek yogurt.
I don’t understand why this channel has such less followers than other channels from bs gurus…. Great content. Keep it up !!!
I appreciate that, thanks!
SUSBSCRIBED! This was intelligent and rational. It doesnt make sense that a half cup of oatmeal can destroy a person's health, not when there a lot of people out there who are older and say they've eating it there whole lives
This a great video. It's amazing to see the fear mongering by some in the you tube community.
Thanks! I'm trying to keep things sensible and sane over here. 😉
Did you do a GCM check for the steel but vs. the regular cut oats?
Great video,I just subbed. I love oatmeal,it's ridiculous how this food has been demonized over the years, just like potatoes. I'm careful about sugar and adding butter and salt to my food. I think everything in moderation, real food is key,not pre packed junk food! 😊
wow! you look good on it i must say..what size serving of oatmeal, ive been taking about a third of a cup of organic oats cooked for 15 mins.
doing work! also the bit of you pouring raw oats into your mouth was funny
I make my Oats with water, adding egg whites and cottage cheese. protein bomb and delicious!
I’m getting mixed information all over the Internet. Does oatmeal cause inflammation?
Yes! Nothing but facts from Ivana! 💯
I've personally experienced and can confirm two things here:
6:55 with age I became very sensitive to blood sugar spikes and can absolutely confirm the blood sugar spikes no matter what you eat, it could be a bowl of salad or steamed rice, if it's enough to make you full your sugar will go UP.
7:56 yesss, I got caught in this mind trap and managed to gain 10 lbs while doing int fasting (literally eating once a day for a year+). I blamed my insuline resistance, but in fact I ignored calories intake. My insuline resistance is still there but I cut calories and guess what, I'm finally losing weight. Just for the record, I've always been average slim so losing even a few pounds of fat takes a lot of effort.
And speaking of oatmeal, most people have a habit of eating it with sugars, syrops, etc added on top. So I can understand why some fitness influencers are so against it. Because I have yet to meet someone who can eat plain oatmeal with no sugar or butter or anything and actually enjoy it. Except few people who likes to eat oatmeal out of the box, like some potato chips 😁
You've made some great points! We do tend to see a decrease in our insulin sensitivity as we get older, so it's often helpful to reduce carb intake slightly. And you're right that many people have oatmeal with syrup/honey. The maple and brown sugar single serving packets I showed in the video wouldn't be a great choice for breakfast on their own, but they're enjoyable as an occasional treat.
I like cooked oatmeal with chopped apple and orange, and topped with a few almonds or walnuts toasted in the microwave and sometimes a bit of cinnamon. No sugar or butter required.
This site just popped up on my feed. I steered away from oatmeal…..seeing this most fit beautiful lady, I’m in! Subbed
Is it true that has teice amount of some pesticide 320 ppb and normal line is 160
Are those sweetened instant oatmeal packets better than no oatmeal at all?
Hello what Best oatmeal buy in store I can eat oatmeal every day?
it don't spike mine! I do add milk and protein powder and chia seeds to it maybe that's why.
❤ banana oatmeal cookies❤ mash up two bananas like a cup of oatmeal and 100% chocolate morsels some cinnamon and maple syrup. Cook at 375 for like 20 minutes. They are the bomb. Use a small ice cream. Scooper and make balls on a cookie sheet.
If oatmeal is "bland", try it with a can of sardines.
haha ok just opened video. Never watched you before and now love you. All it took was seeing baby Yoda on your table and i knew you were a genius and i should listen to everything you say and do.
Welcome! Very happy to have you here. All it took was a cat as your profile pic to know that you were one of my people. 😊
Can you share how can i remove my cravings 😥
We need your skin care routine …. that glow ❤
I eat oatmeal in one form or another almost daily. So many clowns on the internet.
Scaring people about food sells.
One thing I learnt living my 72 years is I/you are what i/you eat. I've never been fat but then I seldom eat junk or ultra-processed food.
i love oatmeal, its my fav breakfast, but lately i eat barley flakes - they need more cooking (like 15min on the stove) but i feel better with them and not so bloated
You look great!
Does oats lower only LDL or the good cholesterol aswell? Im scared oats will affect my testosterone
How about overnight oats ?
It's one of the best things you could eat for breakfast unless you eat the totally healthy not going to fill you up option. It's a truck load better than every other cereal on the market.
I'd like to hear responses to this from other diet advocates.
Allysas oatmeal cookies are delishious!
I’m addicted to those.
How about glyphosate pesticides in oatmeal?
Buy organic
One thing I like about oatmeal is how easy it is to prepare, and how I skip lunch because Im not hungary. But Im losing more weight than I want, I think. What's a easy to prepare healthy breakfast that has more fat? Thanks
Maybe add chia, flax and hemp seeds?
Your arms are amazing 💪
I’ve eaten overnight protein oats all the time, and I feel great. Even when I lack sleep, I get plenty of energy from Oatmeal
Hi Ivana, very nice explanation. But I went keto+IF 3 years ago and recently I am leaning into pure carnivore so no oatmeal for me. I don’t know if I could make this comparison since I am a 34 year old male but it seems to me you and I have complete opposite body types because even moderate amount of carbs make me store hard to lose fat even though I visit the gym regularly. But what’s the point if I have to do heavy exercise everyday just to maintain low body fat. I believe what works for one might not be the best option for someone else.
That's pretty much what I say in the video. If it doesn't agree with you, don't eat it. But that doesn't mean it's wrong for everyone else. The evidence says otherwise.
3:21 Not all nuts or seed had anti nutrients. And we only consume small amount.
LOVE this video …. you debunked the newly formed “gurus” with such a grace ❤❤❤❤
Your arms are amazing
@ivanachapman can dogs eat oatmeal everday?
My grocery store sells a high protein instant oatmeal I like. 180 cals, 10 g protein. Prep = just boiling water. Is one part of the solution for me.
Nice! What's in it that adds protein?
"milk protein isolate" (3rd ingredient) and "whey protein concentrate".(5th ingredient)
I love oatmeal but get the "high protein" one even though it's not really high protein imho. I add some 0% fat vanilla Greek yogurt onto it. It's almost like a dessert, and I need that dose of fiber. Another big thing being fear mongered right now are bananas. I also love me a banana 😂 down over 85 lbs since July 2023, sometimes I think some ppl in this world just want to over complicate things!
I would add exercise to your daily experience. I dropped from 231 lbs to 150 lbs after adding a hour of walk/running every day. It also added oxygen uptake. After about 13 months I was training for marathons.
Healthy serving, boil it, add good protein powder, teo tablespoons of olive oil, two vitamin capsules (open and dump out powder), then frozen blueberries. Good or bad? Don't care anymore. Love it and doesn't make me bloat.
Ivana or Anyone. My microwave died. How about to get rid of the Phytic acid, i just pour boiling water over my rolled oats and let them sit for 10 mins, please?
Thank you for your professional and modern looking content.
🥹👍❤️Thanks for the info Maam🇵🇭
I’ve been eating cut oats for decades. I only have it in the morning 🌅. I take chopped oats, cook it on low with spring water, (never any milk), add 6 chopped Brazil nuts, 1 small underripe banana 🍌,1 tiny pinch of salt, 2 spoons 🥄 of Greek yogurt!! And that’s it …..
No sugar, no milk, no crap ….
It gives maximum satiety all day long, plenty of energy, and is delicious ✌️🤜🤛🤙…….
I just do not accept any downsides to oats or oatmeal at all. It's 100% a good thing to be eating often. For that matter whenever I've eaten noticeably more of it at times in my life, I've been healthier to degrees and I've dropped pounds even if I didn't specifically mean to do that. People who refuse to eat oats, do so because they don't like it. That's the main reason anyway. Even they know it's good for you. I don't tend to get those packets of instant oats with the flavors, but of course since I'm thinking of it now I might if I see a good sale price. When I've had them around, normally I'll just use the packet combined with regular oats and you still get the same added flavors, just not as much sugar. The really good thing about rolled oats especially is that even with prices spiking (Thanks Joe Biden) in the stores, if you aren't too much of a nut about "contamination" from wheat or whatever else, you can almost always find cheaper brands in Walmart to get what you need, lots less than Quaker and still less than Kroger brand.
There’s so much misinformation out there - nobody will ever convince me that oatmeal is bad for me!
You should never wear sleeves. ❤
Old fashioned Oatmeal with raisins and cinnamon preceded by 1 banana and 95g blueberries with 44g UNfrosted shredded wheat and 42g raw almonds on the side is my EVERY breakfast meal!
Great video l loose weight with oat meal and Hair lost life change 😊
My problem is that when I eat oatmeal, I put a lot of butter and sugar in it.
I am gluten free so oatmeal is a perfect for me...and lost cost
whoa! we usuall eats oats. No problem with that. thank you
❤
I get hungry after I eat oatmeal. I don’t put sugar on it. So sometimes I use it for baking and then that’s OK.
How do you eat your oatmeal?
Is Grogu Jedi Mind Trick-ing you, telling you what to say in your videos?
I eat steel cut oats 5 mornings a week.
I think people are just over complicating it 😭 just add some protein powder and fruit to oatmeal and have it for breakfast lol it's not that deep
Yes, but a lot of people are making claims that require a deeper analysis.
I like oats anyway.
Eat all carbs, even whole grains, with a fat or protein… Yogurt, nuts, nut butters, olive oil, butter, etc.
This will slow the absorption and lessen the insulin spike.
Did you watch the video?
Yes. You said this in the video. That’s the reason I reiterated it for people reading the comments. I was agreeing with you.
I also wanted to agree you about Dr. Steven Gundry, the purveyor of junk science. He’s now calling ORGANIC old fashioned oatmeal carcinogenic. There’s ZERO evidence in medical science supporting this. He just likes being outrageous to sell books.
Yes. I’m just reiterating what you said in the video about hacking glucose spikes with a fat or protein.
No wedding ring Ivana ? I’ll soon sort that situation out for you! 😻x
