Hey Kev, just wanted to say a massive thank you. The other day, i E-mailed you about a missing steam wand Nozzle for this exact machine. I e-mailed you for help and you gave me some good stuff to go on, but here's the kicker. in this very video, you elude to the fact that Breville UK and Sunbeam are the same. That led me to start looking at Sunbeam parts instead of "Breville Europe" parts which is a bit more difficult. long story short, the Breville Barista Max Plus and the Sunbeam Barista Plus are the same machine (EMM5400 is the model number for those who need it). i've found the part, i just need to pay a small fortune and have it shipped from Australia and then i can get back to making proper lattes again. basically, if it weren't for you, i would have never found that part. thanks again!
Really glad you got sorted, it is just such a shame that you can't get spare parts for your machine from Breville, and now have to get the part you required from Australia. You enjoy your latte when you finally get sorted :-) Cheers Kev
I just bought the machine for €238 on sale. I took a bottomless filter holder and its simple filter. I'll keep you posted on whether or not I can make decent espressos.
I've recently purchased this machine and followed every step dialing in and weirdly I could get the same results. To get reasonable crema I've had to put the grinder down to 3 and do a 1.2 ratio. Any idea where I could be going wrong? Obviously after 2 hours of dialing in and messing around I'm getting good results, just baffled me.....P.s keep up the great work 👍
Hi Kev, new subscriber here after watching this video before I went out and bought one of these Barista Max Plus machines on New Year's eve. It's my first foray into home espresso making after getting fed up with my Tassimo machine and I didn't sleep much on NYE night due to drinking the whole shot of each espresso I pulled when trying to get the grind settings right!! A lesson learned.... I'm not what I'd call a seasoned espresso drinker, I do like them, but generally drink lattes or flat whites - so I THINK my espressos taste OK. By that I mean I can tell when I don't like the taste of them and most of them that are now coming out of this machine I feel happy with (for me). I definitely need to get some scales and do some more experimenting - but on the whole I'm quite pleased with my purchase, especially for the price. QUick question - did you ever get around to comparing this to the "real" Breville/Sage machines and blind taste testing as you mentioned in this video? I can't seem to find it when looking through your videos - and I've watched a LOT of them over the last couple of weeks 😂🙂
I just watched this whole thing and as someone who is trying to decide between this and the Sage Barista Express is tough 😅 I love the look of the Sage but couldn’t work out if it was worth £300 more. Feel like your conclusion shows why though… Great videos mate 👍🏼

Hello Kev, I have the same coffee machine, but I am struggling to extract a good espresso. For some reason, it is dispending a lower amount of water for the single and double shot buttons. I have tried all the way from 20 to 3 grind settings, and not one setting extracts properly, even when it over extracts or under extracts, the actual volume of the water dispensed is too low. It only ends up with about 15ml of coffee. It is a brand new machine and I can't see how it would be clogged.
You can use the advance/stop button to pour the amount of water you want. You can also customize the volume for 1 cup or 2 cups. Simply hold down the cup button of your choice for 4 seconds. Then press again to record the chosen flow time. This information is in the document.

I’m tearing my hair out with my machine dialing in. The book says 22 to 24 grams of coffee which will not fit in that basket. I’m floating around 18g on grind size 10 with a medium dark roast and the shots are still only 20 or so seconds and 47g of coffee.
Hi, I have the Barista Max, the model number is Vcf126 and I've been trying to find a group head gasket but the breville machine numbers appear to start with BES, I'm confused with thus and can't find the correct parts, can you throw any light on this? Cheers

When is a Breville not a Breville? When it's a Breville. Do they sell it as a Sage in America? Must be flipping annoying for Breville/Sage, but then if they were daft enough to sell their name to a toastie maker, maybe they deserve it. Feels a bit like a Sage/Brevilla Barista Pro copy made by someone by copying the instruction manual rather than bothering to buy one and take it apart. But it sounds a pretty decent machine. Last minute or so ... ooh, you naughty boy! Quite right, though.
I don't suppose you've tried the non-max version of this? Seems like the main difference is that one only comes with pressurised baskets. I'm looking at a compact machine to bring with me on vacation (my daily driver is Lelit Elizabeth + Niche), any point in these Breville ones in your opinion? (the non-max is 300 quid at Currys right now and I should be able to use my regular 58mm baskets I'd imagine). Previously I was looking at the Sage but these Breville are just *a lot* cheaper (and the Barista Express runs at 14-15 bar anyway so doesn't seem like a dramatic improvement for a 2nd machine). Obv you can imagine I don't want to compromise too much on my shot quality given the setup I'm coming from... I do understand it won't be anywhere near as good, but is it actually GOOD? (more than just OK) Would appreciate your thoughts :)
@Maruel zain.... honestly get a Nanopresso. I have one for travelling and it works great, you can use ground coffee (hand ground) or with the adaptor in a pinch use Nespresso pods. I carry a mini grinder and love the setup. It works quite well. Very compact. You can also get the newer Picopresso.
Hi Maruel. I've not, but they seem very similar. Conflicting info on which baskets they come with depending on where you look, but yeah, 58mm so you should be able to use your regular baskets. I'm doing a comparison video very soon with these two machines (barista express vs breville barista max) with blind taste testing. Cheers, Kev.
I've not yet tried the Specialista, I have it though and I will be doing soon, but from reputation only they do seem similar on paper, probably with a few pros and cons for both. Sorry I can't be more specific yet as I've not yet unboxed the La Specialista. Cheers, Kev.
Looks like a confused mess between a barista express and a cheap coffee machine with that odd looking portafilter. The location of where the tamp goes is really odd should have been a place to put glasses like normal
I don't actually think it looks and feels cheap and nasty to be honest, it looks and feels a lot better than I expected for the low cost. I certainly agree re buy right or buy twice, and there's no getting away from the fact that this isn't a Sage/Breville machine, but I think credit where credit is due, they've actually done a fairly good job when it comes to aesthetics, for the £, although of course beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Cheers

Obv you can imagine I don't want to compromise too much on my shot quality given the setup I'm coming from... I do understand it won't be anywhere near as good, but is it actually GOOD? (more than just OK)
Would appreciate your thoughts :)
@@sjorlando7282 Yeah I have the Picopresso, not that great. Cheers.
Hi Maruel. I've not, but they seem very similar. Conflicting info on which baskets they come with depending on where you look, but yeah, 58mm so you should be able to use your regular baskets. I'm doing a comparison video very soon with these two machines (barista express vs breville barista max) with blind taste testing. Cheers, Kev.
haha good uncut video 🙂
Video very helpful ❤
Thank you :-)
Where do you get your espresso measuring cups? :)
Hi Sean,
They are from Rhinowares shot measure: bit.ly/3vMkbr5

Great review... Congrats! +1 Subs!
Many thanks Sorin :-)
at least + 2 haha
I just got this, I'm finding it impossible to get the settings right :(
Hi Nathan,
Send me an email kev@coffeeblog.co.uk and i will try to help you :-)
Cheers
Kev
Is it £500 cheap?
'Wash and dry parts' haha :)
Once you have extracted the shot does the group hold water above the cake? Mine is still quite water laden?
Try upping your dose a bit, putting a bit more coffee in the basket. Soggy pucks can be a symptom of under dosing. Cheers, Kev.
@@Coffee_Kev ok will try
I think that will happen on all espresso machines if they don’t have 3 way solenoids to purge excess water
Any help please. That machine or delonghi art specialista.
I've not yet tried the Specialista, I have it though and I will be doing soon, but from reputation only they do seem similar on paper, probably with a few pros and cons for both. Sorry I can't be more specific yet as I've not yet unboxed the La Specialista. Cheers, Kev.
Notification gang!!! ✌️
Dave, you're the one and only official coffee botherer who has never touched a cup of coffee 😆👍
Looks like a confused mess between a barista express and a cheap coffee machine with that odd looking portafilter. The location of where the tamp goes is really odd should have been a place to put glasses like normal
Yeah the tamper position does seem like a last minute thing, ah crap we forgot the tamper, where do we put this? Ah, slap it on top 😆👍
This machine gives me such a headache. 😂😂 I give up at this point
It looks cheap and nasty tbh. You buy cheap, you buy twice imo.
Cheers
That shot was toooo fast
The mess hurts my eyes!
Haha, yeah it's a bit messy.
🤣 typical guy , reads manual after saying what’s not right 🤣
Hmmm that oat liquid Definitely ain’t milk, so please call it something else :)
It is, I've seen the oats being milked, requires amazing eyesight and hand eye coordination 🤣
