I remember when the police shootings of unarmed black people almost seemed back to back, and I was watching CNN or fox or some shit. So then here comes a reporter with statistical evidence apparently to argue the notion that police officers are killing blacks at a higher rate than whites. The chart showed some raw numbers of police killings with race as a factor and they were along he lines of this: White - 500 Black -300 Then the other races were listed. Reporter goes "There you have it. Police officers kill whites more than blacks" along those lines, which weirded me out because no one should be taking pride in the fact that police officers kill its civilians in the first place. But yeah, those raw numbers were used to prove that blacks were being crybabies and making shit up. HOWEVER, when you account the fact that white people account for half the population while black people only account for 12%, you can see whether those numbers can be misleading. But you had a trusted NEWS CHANNEL giving out purposely misleading information because people either did not want to believe what was really happening/ or you did, but refused to accept it for yourself. That's what always happens when the conversation of race comes up. This is what happens everytime. You can look up all the evidence you want you can see what people of color have been saying for decades, or you can look up that same information and still try to find a way to scrutinize, find a loophole or use another "problem" to justify why there was a problem in the first place. Unfortunately, the latter is usually what always ends up happening.

Mark Fernandez What you're saying is mostly true. If Obama was running Trump wouldn't have won. But that's not considering the people who circumstantially don't vote or voted third party. The fact is that many African americans did come out of the woodwork to vote for Obama when he was running. Another fact is that Trump won a lot of states where Bernie would have won if he were on the ballot, and many black voters were rooting for him. Many people decided none of the choices were worth it this election and didn't vote for Hilary or Trump. I was almost one of those people because I'd set my vote for Bernie. On top of all of this, if you look at the various incidents of hate since Trump's election that have been done in his name, and have been recorded and claimed through social media you'd see why they would label this a "white-lash". Trump's *hate*-fueling campaign has inspired people more than anyone could've imagined and that's why he called it that. Also, it is very possible that we aren't talking about the same media. The media these days is very polar, and so are peoples opinions.

I know a lot of Bernie supporters were embittered by the DNC collusion against their candidate, which either caused them not to vote (partially explaining the huge drop in total votes from 2012), or, depending on how spiteful they were, voted for Trump. So that was definitely a big factor. As far as the increase in "hate crimes" since the election I can't help but feel slightly skeptical, if not altogether cynical. Two of the most high-profile examples of post-election hate crimes (the attack on the Muslim woman in Louisiana and the bloody photo of the LGBT man) were both exposed to be hoaxes. The media (in particular CNN) has been sensationalizing the increased "claims" of hate inspired attacks, and yet actual police reports or charges in many cases have not reflected this increase. I'm not saying that all of these reports are hoaxes, but I would like to see substantiation before I accept it as fact, and a larger sample size before I describe it as a phenomenon. There always exists the possibility that this whole thing is what they call in sociology a "moral panic" and that many of these "reports" are narrative driving hoaxes. How better to prove support your story than to create the evidence. Meanwhile, if you type in "Trump supporters attacked" on RUclips (both pre and post election) you can literally watch an hour of video evidence of people getting beaten up for their political beliefs. And yet this is hardly covered by mainstream media on the Left. Finally, in terms of the media I think we are definitely talking about different media. I imagine you watch CNN or MSNBC, with CNN being the most egregious in its race-bating. The funny thing is it goes both ways, with conservative news channels like Fox completely eschewing the race angle as DL Hughley pointed out. If you watched both channels you would swear they were reporting on different countries. Luckily there are less partisan sources of news like BBC and Reuters, which do what journalists are supposed to do which is simply to report the news. It's our job as intelligent people to interpret that news, we don't need the "truth" teed up for us.

I remember when the police shootings of unarmed black people almost seemed back to back, and I was watching CNN or fox or some shit. So then here comes a reporter with statistical evidence apparently to argue the notion that police officers are killing blacks at a higher rate than whites. The chart showed some raw numbers of police killings with race as a factor and they were along he lines of this:
White - 500
Black -300
Then the other races were listed. Reporter goes "There you have it. Police officers kill whites more than blacks" along those lines, which weirded me out because no one should be taking pride in the fact that police officers kill its civilians in the first place. But yeah, those raw numbers were used to prove that blacks were being crybabies and making shit up. HOWEVER, when you account the fact that white people account for half the population while black people only account for 12%, you can see whether those numbers can be misleading. But you had a trusted NEWS CHANNEL giving out purposely misleading information because people either did not want to believe what was really happening/ or you did, but refused to accept it for yourself.
That's what always happens when the conversation of race comes up. This is what happens everytime.
You can look up all the evidence you want you can see what people of color have been saying for decades, or you can look up that same information and still try to find a way to scrutinize, find a loophole or use another "problem" to justify why there was a problem in the first place. Unfortunately, the latter is usually what always ends up happening.

As a person of color, I feel bad for the intelligent woman across the table arguing with Whoopi. She makes valid, logical points but Whoopi of course comes back with the, pardon the pun, Trump card of "you don't understand cause you're white." As an educated POC this saddens me that meaningful debate can never be achieved because there's always this conversation ender people without an argument can pull out to basically shut up anyone who disagrees with them.
Really? Cause as a person of color, I thought the woman across from Whoopi sounded smart but didn't know what she was talking about. And I was glad Whoopi called her out on exactly that. There was a TON of backlash when Obama was elected, and even though it was mostly coded and no one ever actually admitted so in the media, the backlash was because he was black. That was the whole reason they wanted his birth certificate. They consistently slandered him and his wife, and many still can't acknowledge his work.
There was a "ton" of backlash? Maybe from a fringe segment of the populous. And are we talking about the same media here? The media who doesn't miss a single chance to sensationalize race based narratives. This is why "post-truth" won word of the year. Despite the ton of racists in the country Obama won. He won. So either these people were voting for him against their own biases or they don't make up a large enough portion of the population to actually accomplish anything. As for the the 2016 election, it wasn't like Trump got this massive increase in votes from racists coming out of the woodwork. He got close to or even less than the amount of votes that Romney got in 2012. What really changed was that Hillary didn't get the votes or support that Obama got in 2012 or 2008. Now I'm a never Trumper, but that's why Hillary lost, not why Trump won. As the woman said, if Obama was running against Trump he would have blown him out of the water. Why? Because he would have got all the black voters that Hillary didn't. Would that spike in voting demographic have been called a "blacklash"? I very much doubt it. I'm happy to engage in this debate with a fellow POC, but I hope we can keep this a respectful exchange of ideas despite the Internet being what it is. Cheers.
Mark Fernandez What you're saying is mostly true. If Obama was running Trump wouldn't have won. But that's not considering the people who circumstantially don't vote or voted third party. The fact is that many African americans did come out of the woodwork to vote for Obama when he was running. Another fact is that Trump won a lot of states where Bernie would have won if he were on the ballot, and many black voters were rooting for him. Many people decided none of the choices were worth it this election and didn't vote for Hilary or Trump. I was almost one of those people because I'd set my vote for Bernie.
On top of all of this, if you look at the various incidents of hate since Trump's election that have been done in his name, and have been recorded and claimed through social media you'd see why they would label this a "white-lash". Trump's *hate*-fueling campaign has inspired people more than anyone could've imagined and that's why he called it that.
Also, it is very possible that we aren't talking about the same media. The media these days is very polar, and so are peoples opinions.

I agree with the fact that neither candidate was particularly appealing which is sad. It's like is this really the best America could do? I know a lot of Bernie supporters were embittered by the DNC collusion against their candidate, which either caused them not to vote (partially explaining the huge drop in total votes from 2012), or, depending on how spiteful they were, voted for Trump. So that was definitely a big factor. As far as the increase in "hate crimes" since the election I can't help but feel slightly skeptical, if not altogether cynical. Two of the most high-profile examples of post-election hate crimes (the attack on the Muslim woman in Louisiana and the bloody photo of the LGBT man) were both exposed to be hoaxes. The media (in particular CNN) has been sensationalizing the increased "claims" of hate inspired attacks, and yet actual police reports or charges in many cases have not reflected this increase. I'm not saying that all of these reports are hoaxes, but I would like to see substantiation before I accept it as fact, and a larger sample size before I describe it as a phenomenon. There always exists the possibility that this whole thing is what they call in sociology a "moral panic" and that many of these "reports" are narrative driving hoaxes. How better to prove support your story than to create the evidence. Meanwhile, if you type in "Trump supporters attacked" on RUclips (both pre and post election) you can literally watch an hour of video evidence of people getting beaten up for their political beliefs. And yet this is hardly covered by mainstream media on the Left. Finally, in terms of the media I think we are definitely talking about different media. I imagine you watch CNN or MSNBC, with CNN being the most egregious in its race-bating. The funny thing is it goes both ways, with conservative news channels like Fox completely eschewing the race angle as DL Hughley pointed out. If you watched both channels you would swear they were reporting on different countries. Luckily there are less partisan sources of news like BBC and Reuters, which do what journalists are supposed to do which is simply to report the news. It's our job as intelligent people to interpret that news, we don't need the "truth" teed up for us.
