Always start these bikes from cold with the fast idle lever engaged and no throttle, really easy to flood. Youre master cylinders are missing their dampers by the looks of it. Really enjoying this series
Yea I forgot on that attempt 🤦♂️ as you can see I got the pop/bang from over fueling again after it stalled.. all part of the Italian charm lol. Thanks 😎
Hello, I just discovered your channel and the truth is that I really like it, I don't know if you know from forums, or from the Internet, the two improvements that are usually made to that model, one is to increase the section (diameter) of the positive battery cable to the alternator and battery negative in the chassis, with this you improve charging and starting which is a weak point in these twin cylinders as it requires a lot of effort to move those 2 pistons that it has (there are pages that sell kits for Aprilia and Ducati on Google), other points What I know of to improve is that there is an oil filter update for one with a larger size and flow rate than the one you have, apparently Aprilia realized that there were RSV's that seized rear cylinders and they decided to install a larger filter with a cover larger filter to increase lubrication... I was the happy owner of an RSV 1000 r Factory and in that time I learned a lot from them, later I have had 3 more Aprilias and right now I have a Tuono V4 Factory '16... make those modifications and believe me they will work for you very satisfying. Greetings and continue pampering your frames... I will continue watching your videos every time I can...
Enjoying this video on the RSV, what made me laugh was when you said about annoying the neighbors with the sound of bikes running from your shed so you then took the baffle out 😂😂 Looking forward to the next video, keep up the work. I also find the comments an interesting read with comments from educated subscribers, great work
Glad to hear 😎👍 “Loud pipes save lives” is how I justify the noise increase modifications 😅 The series has attracted a ton of comments, most positive/ sound advice but I have also taken a battering for trying to start it on old fuel 😅
I am a RSV owner since a few weeks from Germany and I have almost to do the same work on it like you. I love your videos, I learned so much. Now I feel ready to start 😊
Enjoyed watching this. These old V2 Sport Bikes deserve to be kept alive. Going thru nearly all those steps with my Barn-find '2000 TL1000s some years ago (including rusty tank+new fuel pump), I know exactly how it feels when she then after a lot of work fires up for the first time with that lovely sound :-) Greetings from Germany
Really enjoyed watching these vlogs. When you turn on the ignition the rev counter will swing onto what the flashing rev limiter is set at. You could do with adjusting this to 11k as the flashing light will get on your nerves if left at 6k. A simple google search will tell you how to do it 👍
Glad to hear Jack 😎 Yep aware of the rev limiter and funny enough it was set to 10,000rpm Saturday - hadn’t done it sooner as as the battery was coming on & off so much 😅
Very impressive. Couple of things. Being in a cold and wet climate I would get yourself a Brake fluid moisture tester. Brake fluid absorbs moisture at a helluva rate and once the moisture content reaches 3% your fluid is stuffed. if it reaches 5% you are going to boil the water in the fluid and the brakes may lock on with disastrous results. I would have used a new air filter because after that length of time the material will start to break down. Oh and one other thing, you need a bigger shed 😁😁
@@owen368 Have you thought of shipping container. These are quite a popular addition here in Australia as no planning permission is required. Just plonk it down on your bock.

I've had a similar issue with the front brakes on a Triump Tiger 855i, thats sat for a couple of years, as you were having with the clutch. No leaks but still it wouldn't work. My thought is it has to do with brake fluid being hydroscopic. Once the brakefluid accumulates a lot of water you basically try to use water instead of brakefluid to do the work. Thats my guess anyway. Please keep making these videos. I really like them. Cheers

If you clamp the bar ends with some grips you can unscrew the bolt while keeping the bar ends still. Should work. If this doesn't work just grip the bar ends with pliers then hammer the pliers. Some bar ends have a rubber tube that expands when you tighten.
Ended up drilling the right hand one last night, poxy thing 😅 Shall try the clamping method this week on the left side as you mention, all ready tried banging them out
Great work. Couple of tips to save you some hassle. Letting the bike warm up until the fans cut in to measure oil level does NOT work no matter how many people say it does. The bike needs a quick 20 minute ride to find the accurate level. Also if you fill the coolant system on a paddock stand as opposed to the side stand, there's a good chance you'll get trapped air in the system on these bikes, which 'may' cause you issues. Lastly, more an observation; the crankcase drain plug doesn't appear oem. The original should have a prominent magnetic tip and does NOT have a sealing washer. Enjoying the videos and the chilled vibe 👌
So many different stances on the oil filling procedure 😅 it’s taken 3.9 litres and the oil pressure light is off so hopefully a future episode won’t consist of an engine swap… 🫠
Great series, awesome work. You got me so excited i even tought of getting a rsv mille myself too haha. I'm from Portugal, the non R models are quite cheap over here. Looking to a 99 one with a problem on the starter for a quick flip. Keep up the videos they are amazing to watch and to learn from 👌🤘
Really cool project. Great work. Just a heads up--silicone spray is commonly used for the ease of installing rubber hoses, fuel lines, and would work for installing throttle bodies in the boots.
Fantastic work mate! I think the collector hose might be missing from the throttle side of your airbox. It's on the "clean" side of filter so a potential air leak there. Also might be worth checking the plastic one-way valve in the slipper clutch system - they always break.
Thanks Andrew, Shall look into the airbox hose and the slipper clutch one way valve, I wasn’t even aware it had such a system for the slipper clutch until others had mentioned it being a weak spot on the design with the age of these now 👍

Make sure the end caps are not turning, to release the swags inside the bar, its part of the end cap, sometimes. I use 5w30 Valvoline fully synthetic in mine, but in New Zealand 😅
@@simonallan9941 yea I guess I should look at it like that, it has held up well given the time stood outside.. the entire bike could have been as bad as the bar ends 🥴
@@stoneautomotive I wouldn't have been able to resist giving the valve covers a polish and coat of engine enamel clear lacker, I paint everything with it 😄
Check the starter solenoid. It’s weak as standard on these. Uprated to 150A via AP workshops aftermarket one takes better care of the battery and sprag clutch. Also check front and rear tank bolt alignment. If you have to apply pressure to get the front or rear ones in after refitting tank then that’s a sure sign the ethanol in the petrol and moisture have expanded the tank. It’ll need replacing with a used one whilst you dry store the original a good 6 months to shrink back then epoxy line it. With these it’s not if but when they go, trust me. Also worth balancing TBs if not already done and check clutch slave cylinder for leaks. If leaking best to replace with Oberon aftermarket item. People rave about Ducatis of this era but the rsv and rsvr Mille’s were by far the better bike👍
Thanks for detailed post 👍 I do own a throttle body balancer which I’ve used on the Ducati, as the RSV is running so well and sharp on the throttle response I haven’t played with them.. yet lol

Well done on passing the Mod 1 - Almost there now 😎 Thanks 👍 haha yes I did toy with that but I’ve actually stumbled across an old R6’which has my attention 👀
There were a few options thrown around, time vs cost the brand-used throttle bodies were the winner. There must be someone who makes those seals out there (comments suggest they look like something from a VW)
That is a very good question, if space wasn’t an option I would add it to the collection especially with all the hours gone into her.. but realistically it will probably be sold once the build is complete! Let’s see how the road review goes (hopefully that will be on the channel in the coming weeks 😬)
Not sure what paint Brembo used on those master cylinder caps, but it is awful! I put a 2nd hand one (from a Falco) on my Bimota Dieci (which used a Yamaha master cylinder with Brembo calipers, which didn't give any brake feel), and my quick tart up of the cap has lasted far longer than the original finish. Do you have the diaphragm in place under the cap? If not them water vapour can get at the fluid easily, and potentially fluid leak out. Looks like the bar end weight use an expanding rubber bung inside the bar. As you have taken the tension off this then hopefully you can just pull the bar end out (possibly use some silicone spray to help it slide out). Once off they should be easy to clean up.
It’s a nightmare that finish on those caps, happened to my 748sp too! I wonder if it’s the moisture drawn to the brake fluid that clauses it.. Yep seal in place on the cap 👍
You are right, that is the case on some Bikes 👍 On the RSV though it’s the rev limiter/ Shift light set, every time the battery is removed it goes back to run in rpm, actually changed it back to 10,000rpm today as I’m hoping the battery won’t be off again 😅
Proper change of plans.. decided to scrap the idea as I couldn’t fit the M3’s down the side of the house due to the width.. then misses had her studio built. Almost bought a unit this year with some very big plans but sadly, it fell through 😭
What astonishes me is that injector seals for a relatively modern Italian bike aren't available. What does this say about the viability of owning these? By comparison, I can order new OE or aftermarket seals for my BMW K100 from about two dozen different places, which is probably why there are so many of them still on the road.
On old plastic parts and rubber taking some heat to it brings them back around to new looking again. I wouldn't test this trick out on things youre not willing to repaint until you've got the skill down, but I'm very surprised at the results I've had with a few things
If you measure the size of those injector O-rings, then buy some generic ones, a few sizes, you should find some that fit. After all, I very much doubt that Aprillia manufactured their own O-rings.
It’s the thicker o-rings, the standard ones I don’t think would be a problem but the ones that are a good 3 times thicker than the standard o-rings are not around anywhere.. Agree, someone must make them, it’s just finding who 😅
It’s such a tough one with music that doesn’t get flagged for copy right, been a struggle for years for me 😅 If I don’t put any backing audio on its just really odd lol
Hello from Ireland Sir, loved you video, I am 78 and still ride my 2000 RSV-R Mille, I would like to send you a few photos, how is it possible to do this please, Thanks Richard
I thought the bike was in good shape for sitting around that long were your at i love the sound off it i normaly dont like sport bike sound unless inline 4 even dont like sound off new r6 r1 with the v twin sound.use some heat on that stainer.and if u fill fiter with oil be4 putting it in it will get oil straght away
That’s what I had always thought until I spoke to Griff, must have been throttle body size change on the 2004+ model (I was trying to multi-task when on the phone to him so obviously I hadn’t absorbed all the information correctly 😅)
Get yourself a Chinese Diesel Heater for your workshop, it will keep you toasty all winter long, and they are pennies to run. They cost about £100 to buy, then it is just the cost of Kerosene, don't use diesel it is dirty and smelly, put it on for an hour before you go out to the shed, and you will wonder why you never bought one before.
Great work mate, I never thought to use ACF-50 to restore plastics.. looks like it works great. Whats your set up with the bilt hamber product you're using and how diluted do you go? Looks like you're getting great results
Works really well, I put the purple magic on almost everything 😅 I normally use it on a ratio of 200ml to 800ml water (litre total in the bottle) really rate the stuff 😎 GP customs do offer a discount for my viewers if you need any (detailed in the description of the first video 👍)

There must be someone who makes those seals out there (comments suggest they look like something from a VW)
Keep up the good work guys 💪😊
Thank you 👍😎
So good to see you given her a load of love. What a lovely bike. What are your plans for he afterwards, are you keeping her ?
@@stoneautomotive, would hope rarely any fluid on the outside. Just seems like a poor paint finish
I always thought acf was just to stop corrosion, never thought of using it on the white death
It works really well as can be seen in the video 😬👍
Im probably wrong, but isnt the needle supposed to do a full sweep? Isnt it resting on 5 showing an error code? Unsure if aprillia use that way
You are right, that is the case on some
Bikes 👍
On the RSV though it’s the rev limiter/
Shift light set, every time the battery is removed it goes back to run in rpm, actually changed it back to 10,000rpm today as I’m hoping the battery won’t be off again 😅
you can set it to your preferences sir, and if yours is gen2 rsvR you can see at my channel how to check the error code on the dash
What ever happened to the large workshop build plan??
Proper change of plans.. decided to scrap the idea as I couldn’t fit the M3’s down the side of the house due to the width.. then misses had her studio built.
Almost bought a unit this year with some very big plans but sadly, it fell through 😭
The injectors look like Bosch digifant injectors from a VW just a thought.
Really enjoy the channel.
Well I can’t see me searching any further on the matter, I can tell you I won’t be removing the injectors on this set of throttle bodies 😅
Thanks 😎👍
Looking good.👍
Thanks 😎👍
Wow I can’t believe those o rings are obsolete.
Shame on Aprilia.
Had a few Italian bikes, never again!
All part of that Italian ownership magic 😅
Muito bom videos. Parabéns
Thank you 👍😎
nice....
What astonishes me is that injector seals for a relatively modern Italian bike aren't available. What does this say about the viability of owning these?
By comparison, I can order new OE or aftermarket seals for my BMW K100 from about two dozen different places, which is probably why there are so many of them still on the road.
It did me too sadly, didn’t think taking the injectors out would be any sort of issue!
I guess it will all go down as the Italian charm 😅
On old plastic parts and rubber taking some heat to it brings them back around to new looking again. I wouldn't test this trick out on things youre not willing to repaint until you've got the skill down, but I'm very surprised at the results I've had with a few things
Hi there. What do you use in the wurth pump sprayer to clean?
It’s break & clutch cleaner inside the sprayer - a must for any garage/workshop 😬
I usually buy it in the 5 litre drums for around £15
@@stoneautomotive yeah i use it too. I got the black wurth sprayer. But i cant find 5 liter so cheap
@@MrJosevintem I bulk buy, 5 cans of 5 litres - never goes off and I get through so much of it 😅
Thx bro.
(From Portugal)
black and red is the best
Stickers have been ordered and paint is now finished 😬
...also time to remove the 6000rpm limiter!
Yep 😅
Done now I knew the battery wasn’t coming out again 👍
If you measure the size of those injector O-rings, then buy some generic ones, a few sizes, you should find some that fit. After all, I very much doubt that Aprillia manufactured their own O-rings.
It’s the thicker o-rings, the standard ones I don’t think would be a problem but the ones that are a good 3 times thicker than the standard o-rings are not around anywhere..
Agree, someone must make them, it’s just finding who 😅
Love the series, but i have to say that music is driving me nuts 😂
It’s such a tough one with music that doesn’t get flagged for copy right, been a struggle for years for me 😅
If I don’t put any backing audio on its just really odd lol
Hello from Ireland Sir, loved you video, I am 78 and still ride my 2000 RSV-R Mille, I would like to send you a few photos, how is it possible to do this please, Thanks Richard
Hi Richard,
Glad you enjoyed the series and fair play for still getting out on yours 😎
I can be contacted through email, stoneautomotive@yahoo.co.uk 👍
Just curious what did you give for the aprillia?
That will all be detailed in the last episode, shouldn’t be long now 😬
Air filter was upwards????
🤷♂️
I thought the bike was in good shape for sitting around that long were your at i love the sound off it i normaly dont like sport bike sound unless inline 4 even dont like sound off new r6 r1 with the v twin sound.use some heat on that stainer.and if u fill fiter with oil be4 putting it in it will get oil straght away
On RSV's you have to reset the KM to Miles every time you disconnect the battery, very annoying, especially around MOT time..!!!
Yes really annoying 😅
Hopefully the battery won’t be coming off again now.
Engine is the same as the R , only difference is the cosmetic parts carbon ,wheels, ohlins , etc etc.
Many have suggested I should give it a go 👍😬
My worry is the garage is so poorly insulated it will all leak out in no time ☹️
Great work mate, I never thought to use ACF-50 to restore plastics.. looks like it works great.
Whats your set up with the bilt hamber product you're using and how diluted do you go? Looks like you're getting great results
Works really well, I put the purple magic on almost everything 😅
I normally use it on a ratio of 200ml to 800ml water (litre total in the bottle) really rate the stuff 😎 GP customs do offer a discount for my viewers if you need any (detailed in the description of the first video 👍)
