What if season 2 got banger female roles and they been saying marvel can’t make a good female character
For the most part, good. Only issue I had was with certain dialogue in which Hela talked too much. Out of character. She is not Darcy. Darcy is cool. Hela written to act like Darcy is not.
Here's a few more
1. When Hela first meets Wenwu, he speaks to her in Mandarin, and she understands, and the dialect switches to English because Asgardians have The All Speak.
2. When young Hela tells Odin that Fenrir means him no harm and Odin says not yet, it's a nod to Norse Mythology. Fenrir, like Hela, is a child of Loki, and he's destined to kill Odin during Ragnarok.
3.Gungnir is held by the ruler of Asgard, which is why when Odin gave up the throne, Hela had the spear. Loki and Hela both wielded Gungnir in the movies when they stole the throne.
That's all I got!!!
Yes!! Point 2 in particular!
Also worth noting, Hela rides Fenris in the assault on Thanos at the end, so she got her companion back and hints at possibly undoing the wolf’s destiny as well
@@stuartlean2977 you're probably right. Odin is somewhere with Frigga, retired, watching theater, and eating grapes. Thanos and his army were about to get wrecked!
Cate Blanchett was having entirely too much fun with her lines. Absolutely love her portrayal of Hela.
Cate is one of the best, most versatile actors out there today! There is literally no role she can't do. And yeah, she really delivered here! :)
Behind the scenes, she kept making sound effects with her mouth, and then immediately apologising. She's a wonderful actor and definitely had a lot of fun with her role as Hela.
@@luckygruntthere’s no way Hela died in ragnarok! Sacred timeline Hela should come back so we’d have more of this!
It is worth calling out this episode happens before Odin sacrificed his eye. He has both peepers, so lacks the wisdom he gained after plopping out one.
I automatically assumed Friega was also Hella’s mother, but Hella addressed her as Odin’s “new” girlfriend
Meaning hella has a diff mom. Not that hella and odin were together like that.
Oh yeah no, Friega was likely the one that convinced Odin to change for the better
@@lightdarksoul2097that's the Thor lore I wanna explorrrrrreeeee gimme the intergenerational trauma daddy issues and them going to like. A galactic therapist who uses battle as a part of the process 😭
I was the opposite and assumed Hela was an older half sister
I think it's written as Frigga
I was not expecting a Hela redemption story. This was so good
Big facts like wow lol let's do a hela marvel tv series like Loki
IKR. I was doubting Héla’s goodness but the ending when she turns to the goddess of light, I was like “wow marvel really showing that even the most darkest people can return to the good path.”
The voice acting in this episode was brilliant.
I hope this White Hela, God of stories Loki and Thor in the main MCU met in Secret wars
A true visionary
i would honestly cry if this happened lmao
Me too 😂 it would complete us and the family
I think this might be my favourite episode of the season! It truly went in a very interesting direction and helped me see Hela's character in a whole new light.
Every time I think I’ve landed on my favorite episode, the next episode comes along and outdoes it lol this is my favorite Marvel IP currently by far.
A LITERAL whole new light.
Literally
This is probably the best episode of series so far pay great homage to thor (1) and shang chi seeing hela become a liberator ,and ending it with them taking on thanos was so satisfying.
IMO the tony stark one was the best😂 miss that character so much
Definitely so far the iron Man episode is the best but I would honestly consider this one second best because I don't know if anyone realizes this but yeah this is a brand new character and it doesn't even have a comic book origin about time marvel@@rachavinvitayakovit1408
The best episode of the series was episode 6
My FAVORITE What if episode of all time!!!!!!!
Captain Carter is the best one so far
Beat episode so far !! Hela’s white suit was just beautiful 😍
That was great!!
Yeees! Finally someone saying out loud what I think about Odin. The flaws of all his children are his fault. He raised Hela as the killing machine, he raised Thor as the shallow boisterous ass he was at the beginning and the cruelest of all: he raised Loki with a feeling he will never be as beloved as Thor PLUS with a disdain to his heritage.
Checkered past is putting it mildly imo.
The dude literally had displays of death via public executions to break the will of those he conquered. He was a monster and a despot. The minute I found out about that in Ragnarok, my suspicions were all validated, Odin was a horrible person who had the audacity to pass judgment on others. Really wish we got to see him portrayed as the monster he was and having to face the judgment he imparted on others.
Yes, exactly! On all the Thor-Loki-Tesseract related movies, my constant thought was that it's all Odin's fault! If he hadn't been the worst, a lot of the worst stuff could have been avoided.
Not only in the MCU but also in Norse mythology as well is he a brat. @@tugroti66
yep. always the fathers fault. no point in holding children accountable for anything they do when you can blame someone else.
@@tooslow4065 Parents choose to have children. Children don't choose to be born. You damn right it's the Parents fault. If you don't know how to parent, or your kid is difficult? You seek professional help, because that is the responsibility *you* took. If you can't handle the responsibility of parenthood, then use a condom. Don't blame children for existing.
This is easily the best episode of the season, possibly the best What If. This was brilliantly done! Big respect to the writers for really putting Odin under the microscope. And including Wyn-Wei and the 10 rings was such a cool take.
This episode really cemented that Odin might be the worst father in all of Marvel. Anytime any of his children don't do exactly as he demands and have any independent thought; he just banishes them and just hopes for the best.
Sounds alot like my Scandinavian father lmao😂
I have a feeling that this Hela will appear in the Avengers Secret Wars finding out about Loki holding the multiverse as well
This is my favorite episode of What If Season 2! I think Hela is now the Goddess Of Life!
Can we take a minute to say thank you to Colton for killing it with these breakdowns while also working on a holiday! We appreciate it so much🥹
I'm really digging this series. What If season 2 and Loki give me hope for the MCU.
Same, I think they were always gonna struggle, and we may have a few duds still in the pipe line..but if they can change enough focus better hopfully MCU will not die or wimper down anytime soon.
I really enjoyed this episode quite a bit! It mixes completely different sides of the MCU together perfectly, and a lot of really cool stuff came out of this episode. My highlights of this episode were the action and especially the final fight because that was really cool and well done! Props to the animators, and although not my favorite episode of the season, I still thought it was really great! 8/10!
This gives us a new side of Hela, Odin, and the Mandarin we never saw in the movies
@@jic7zvr07a8yup, they all can end up so powerful but odin kinda controls them to be under him
Yeah there was something about this episode visually that was on another level. Really dynamic with the colors going from the rainy night to the beautiful scenes in Ta Lo!
@@Peavey311 you described the beauty of this episode perfectly
The what if character interactions are great u would never see it otherwise.
I love, love, love the parallels that keep being drawn between different characters who never got to meet! First Tony and Gamora, now Hella and Gamora, it's so so freaking awesome and I love this series and wish it would go on forever just to get every possibility of, What If?
Thank you. Animation has a lot more freedom for ideas and visuals than just live action. Especially if something happens to an actor, the character can still live on through another voice.
2:06, It’s also cool to note What If indirectly revealing Hela’s helmet to be (in Dungeons And Dragons terms) her arcane focus, just like Odin’s spear, Gungnir, is his and Mjolnir and Stormbreaker are Thor’s. As explained in Thor Ragnarok, Thor’s paternal lineage dating back to Bor all have innate supernatural power inside them (the MCU’s take on the Odin Force) and use these magical items to focus and control it just like wizards in Harry Potter largely rely on their wands to control and amplify their own innate power, with particularly weak ones being mostly unable to use any of their powers without a wand.
5:17, Hela’s ability to materialize and dematerialize her helmet also resembles Loki’s ability to do the same with most of his equipment. This also prominently is referenced as in Loki’s opening, when he realizes he is unable to summon his daggers to slaughter the TVA’s guards with.
7:24, As of Loki Season 2, it’s been clarified that other realities have their own versions of adjacent dimensions like the Quantum Realm and Ta Lo. Heimdall’s clairvoyance only extends to his universe and he is unable to perceive other realities beyond it.
Yeah Odins line about Thor being the god of thunder not the god of hammers. They are foci not the source of their powers.
It's funny how Hela is a mix of Thor and Loki emotionally and her jokes
I liked hela’d azula hairdo. Really cane together with the red armor and the fire knives
Loving these episodes with Colton. Great work, bud! 🤙🤙
This is by far my favorite episode of all time through out what if. I loved the story of how hella learned that she wasn’t the goddess of death, but she is now the goddess of life. I just love that and wish this could be in live action. It was great also aligning along with Thor which I loved. 100/10 episode ❤
Not the goddess of life but goddess of peace we can say.
@@Jake-Lockley that is facts
I think that Ta Lo can be seen as a "pocket dimension" like the Quantum Real, in Loki its called something like that
This What If season is extremely good...
This season of What if...? has been amazing! Connected and with a central theme. I am so glad there will be a third season.
They definitely nerfed odin but I really loved getting to see him throw down for the first time in the mcu especially against two powerhouses like Hela and wenwu
I thought odin was very powerful but he got deafeted by just help and ven wu 😅😅😅 still can't believe it
It was a great episode and I understand why they did it, but let's be honest, Odin could've blown all of China into dust if he wanted.
I think he was just not trying to kill everyone, but instead trying to see what would his daughter do or test her
Probably my least favorite episode so far... Odin was completely nerfed to the point where he was getting his ass handed to him by two mortals essentially... Odin even punched both of them in their face, no protection there, but not even a bruise, and to think an ordinary soldier punched Hela in the beginning and she bled.. 😂😂😂 Sorry Odin... Hope the next episode is better, All Father Odin was given no respect at all in this ridiculous portrayal 😆
@livingstonekot757 yes they both should've been obliterated by any of his attacks. They honestly shouldn't have been able to get past Asgardian soldiers who at base level can lift 20 to 30 tons
They should definetly be trying to put all the What If characters in Battleworld in Secret Wars
If we don't see them there i will be exactly 42% disappointed
INTERESTED TO SEE HOW THIS CHANGES THE REST OD THAT UNIVERSE AND HOW IT AFFECTS THE STORY OF THOR AND LOKI.
Loki would likely stay a frost giant as Hela would have defeated them and made the giants accept peace. Thor wouldn't ever need to be so egotistical as he wouldn't be king. He would be more likely like party Thor without the weapon
Amazing eppisode, imo. Probably the 2nd or 3rd best of the season, which is great! To have such strong episodes back to back is great
I'm sure someone has mentioned this already, but just as much as Thanos manipulated and controlled gamora and Odin did the same to Hella, I found it very significant, but the final battle. The episode was very much a mirror to the final battle in Shang chi, pitting father against child for the freedom to choose and the right to wield the dad's power
It's crazy how good What If is when the rest of Marvel is imploding. Maybe it's Loki's new branches bringing the good stories together
It's worth noting that this version of Odin has both eyes, as opposed to the version of Odin in the mainstream MCU that we've seen who only has one. In Norse mythology, Odin sacrificed his eye to gain divine wisdom, making him a better leader. (Although in the MCU films they change this to him losing the eye while fighting frost giants on Earth.) At any rate, this is definitely a different Odin than we've seen before, not as wise or patient. He shows wisdom in wanting to stop fighting at the beginning of the episode, but then flies off the handle when Hella "disappears" from Heimdall's sight and he discovers there's potentially a great source of power present on Midgard that he wasn't in control of.
My favorite what if so far, Hella's character has a new layer and we see WenWu showing his full badassery
Kang can still be used regardless of Majors getting fired. Remember, multiverse variants don't ALL have the same face as we saw with Spider-Man and Loki. Plus, Banner and Rhodey got new actors and nobody ever commented on them having new faces.
I loved seeing Hela again. I had hoped she would return in Infinity War as the aspect of Death. Not that Thanos started his mission because of Hela, but I had hoped she would be found lost in space, found by Thanos and his Black Order. Then, she would join the Black Order and help fight alongside Thanos for the stones. I feel an opportunity was missed, but I will happily accept What If Hela same as Captain Carter.
It's sad to think that if Odin had only sent his daughter to Earth rather than hel she could've changed for the better 😢 it was truly great to see! And she became even more powerful! Thanos stands no chance 😂
Really appreciate the daily content over the Christmas holidays. Great work!
Thanks so much!
For like 90% of the fight at the end, I was like "who is the good one now"
Well...Odin was never the good one to be honest. He is a colonizer with all its cruelty who told the story (in his favor) because he was the victor.
The fight between Wenwu/Hela and Odin was awesome. Made me want to see it in live-action.
I didn’t know where else to post this but I just have to say after watching this What If might be the coolest thing Marvel has ever done. These episodes are wild and I’m enjoying them immensely.
I mean, let's be real, if all 3 of Odin's kids need this many harsh life lessons/punishment up to eternal banishment, maybe Odin was not a good dad... Just a thought
This exactly how you mix comedy with a serious character 😂 loved it
As far as Ta Lo and where it is within the universe, i think we get the answer in this episode. Hela wanted to keep the armies of Odin marching and continuing to conquer more realms. To me, this means there are more realms than the 9 realms ruled by Odin in the MCU. In the comics, there is a tenth realm, Heven, and while this isn't Ta Lo it can show us that there are more realms. I think Ta Lo is an example of one of these extra realms, near midgard, but not under the purview of Odin and the Asgardians.
In the mainline universe it was 965 AD when Odin retired from conquest after defeating the Frost Giants and ushered in a millennia of peace which is around the same century Xu Wenwu discovered the ten rings. Ta Lo is a pocket dimension (its not much larger than the village and the lake) and the series LOKI referred to these like the Microverse as adjacent realms. The 9 realms are planets reachable via space travel but all connected by Yggdrasils roots, possibly meaning they were in close proximity and it was easy to move between them using the Bifrost, this is supported by the events in the Ego episode where in short order several of the realms had been visited by Peter Quills spaceship.
This final version of Hela was soo good! Hope she works her way into our main universe! Hela the white.
I liked this approach to Hela. That was a cool and clever take on the Thor mythos and cool to see his deadly sister be a goodie ❤
The way this episode ended, I actually almost started crying. That. Was pure awesome. 😁😁😁
Odin really was an awful father to all of his kids 😂
That is Fenhuang, kind of a phoenix
Cate Blanchett was soooo enjoyable and that walk, the same level of badass and creep as that sidelook of Bucky, love it. But who is she now? God of Life?
But the main question is: I think we've seen almost everyone now, except Loki who is only the God of the Multiverse now... does that not affect the Watcher and his stories or what?
I personally think she's actually the Goddess of Freedom now. A liberator. And what is freedom but life unbound?
She can still be the Goddess of Death. Instead of actively seeking out living things to kill she can now let death take its natural course.
Astounding. Would love to see a full film of this in live action with more time for character development. The ending is a glorious glimpse into Hela's actions after becoming Goddess of Peace. Happy
A Hela fine episode (-_^ ) 10/10 Rings.
Ayyy
They should recast Kang not retire the character just because one actor that portrayed him didn't worked out at the end to put it mildly.
Personally I want them to use like Viola Davis and Janelle Monae for a bit, then transition, pun intended, into even more differing variants revealing he's been collecting the ones most similar to him as an army. Leaving the less attached variants for more play, like Jonah as Iron Lad, the Maker if we count him, and so on
0:00 you without mercy now plead for it
I LOVED this episode! I wasn’t big on ep 6 but I love Hela and I love Thor and Shang Chi so this was just an awesome mix of the two stories.
thank you Colten! you and all the ScreenCrush family rule (pets too!!)
Thank you!
I'm glad to see some post-Endgame characters getting used in this show. What If is the perfect way to flesh some of them out further, especially since we don't know when or if any of them will interact with the more established MCU cast on the big screen.
Great episode, and another enjoyable breakdown. Really appreciate you, Ryan and the team doing this for us as each episode is released.
Odin's all 3 children are basically the embodiment of "If you're unable to teach your kids, then let the society do the job."
For the most part, good. Only issue I had was with certain dialogue in which Hela talked too much. Out of character. She is not Darcy. Darcy is cool. Hela written to act like Darcy is not.
Its funny that Hel said to Morris . “ it’s not the first time I’m following an ass.” The vikings called their Gods “Aser” as we wil say in Denmark. It’s means Odin, Thor, Balder an so on. Funny reference. 😂
Surprised that Hela Goddess of Life wasn't compared to Gandalf the White, but then that was incredibly obvious 😂
This episode was awesome!! Love friggin HELA!!!!! And I agree!!! Bring back HELA THE WHITE!!!!! I mean, she has to be where all the Asgardians go when they die!! We already know Heimdal is there and Jane Foster. THIS episode gives GREAT MCU vibes. Keep it up!!!
This version of Odin has a very Omniman quality to him: a conqueror until persuaded otherwise.
Glad to see Hela be more like prime Mark Grayson!
Aww man y'all killed it & screen crush is stomping on Canadian lad.. 2 weeks from now he'd probably be dropping a video about Hela & the 6rings 😅😅
I also think that Hela is a LOT more like Thor here, whereas in Ragnarok, she was basically just pure evil. Here she acts and quips around like Thor does. Probably showing the effect that thousands of years in isolation had on her. Regardless, it’s MUCH easier to see this version of Hela as Thor’s sister.
Thank you Colton!
This was literally my favorite, I know because kept wanting it to continue
It is one of the best episodes in the entire What if
'Checkered as f***', loved it. Great word choice!😂
😂The best ad 😂
“A special chair and everyone uses the same one… “
😂 🐶 🤣❤
This universe's Shang Chi would be OP af.
Loved this episode man
Hela had more character development & motivation in 30 minutes of this episode than she did in Thor: Ragnarok
Some of the voice actors are iffy in other episodes. But Jeff Bergman sounds so much like Anthony Hopkins it’s basically a perfect match.
There is a good chance that the team the Watcher is assembling in the What If animated T.V series could be one of the teams we see in the Avengers Secret Wars live action movie fighting on battle world, which would be pretty cool
whoever voices the cute dog, has humour 😂😂😂
PROUD OF YOU COLTEN! NAILING IT!!!!!!!!!
Watching this during the day, but I think ima watch this one and previous one in the night 😊
Great episode. We need more original stories like this one.
The Crown's enchantment is actually slightly different.
It's not worth, but knowing mercy.
Nice touch Marvel writers.
I once had a presentation on Confucianism. Believe me, I can relate so much to the hard Chinese pronunciations part 😂
this is a great episode
COLTON COLTON COLTON!!!
What If…? is freaking awesome!
These daily releases of banger after banger episode really has me feeling spoiled. Two episodes left super excited excited to see how Season 2 concludes!
GotG 3, What if S2, & Loki S2 has been the best anything Marvel has released on TV or in Theaters in years.
This episode is amazing! What if series really librated the creativity from MCU that is usually restrained in the movies
When Hela first arrived at Ta Lo, she hears a voice which I think is the same voice Wenwu was hearing in Shang-Chi.
Loved this episode!! Hela was awesome and hope to see her in live action again .
Holy forking shirtballs!!! Hela the White!? Something I never even imagined is the very thing I need more of, right now! This is exactly what "What If...?" is all about. Great job on this one team!
BTW great to see more you dude!! I'm sorry about the TV curse 😬😬😬😬😬😬
He doesn't know 🤫
Best episode for me so far
COLTON!!!! MY MAN!!!! You know you have my THANKS for your great attention to detail!!!!
Thanks my man!
Well we know Ta lo isn't something unique in the multiverse since in this story things didn't end up how they were meant to so it's part of the universe, something unique to this branch. The dark Dimension is likely the same place in all universes so that makes it special
Now I'm picturing a situation between Dormamu and the demon from Shang chi:
The demon waiting patiently at the door, for someone to listen and open it and Dormamu just asking "bro, why are you still there, it. Won't. Open."
"Chill, someone's gonna take the ba- oh wait, here comes one!"
To which Dormamu just rolls his eyes to do his thing
Colton’s getting much better at these every ep gotta say
Thanks so much!
That was fantastic. The way forward, if they should recognize it.
Loved this episode but the title kinda confused me. Like Hela barely found the rings, she found Wen Wu. Idk, but the title created an expectation that she'd use them. But I've had that with some other titles too lol
She found the "Ten Rings" - the organization that Wen Wu created. It was a criminal organization in our main MCU timeline but in this timeline, its a heroic liberation organization that deals with universal villainous threats. Technically Hela landed in Midgard and she found the "Ten Rings" organization led by Wen Wu in her search for the crown, and later helped found the "Ten Rings" with Wen Wu to help liberate other worlds from threats like Thanos
@@daeseongkim93 Ohh... yeah ofcourse haha. I just thought of the objecy haha oops
Nice one
I'm quite enjoying this season of what if. Stories not too restricted by cannon. Share more possibilities.
