One minor detail is Sylvie says in season 1 she never sits with her back to a door but when she's listening to the record in this episode, she's sitting on the couch facing away from the front door. It shows how comfortable she was in her new timeline.

There was 1 easter egg you missed. When convincing Mobius to go with him, Loki gives Mobius the Doctor Who speech he gives every new companion "I can bring you back to any point in time, it'll be like you never left" and true to Doctor Who, Loki is unable to keep that promise.

There's rarely a few things that make me cry in the MCU, and Loki, after delivering his realization, that look of emotional pain and the expression on his face of knowing that he's trying to do the right thing, and more importantly, at least on a theoretical level, the most heroic thing he's ever attempted, that look that expresses selflessness while expressing his slowly declining self-confidence really brought a tear to my eye, so much that I just wanted to give him a hug and say "Everything will be okay," but the thing is that this is Loki at his absolute lowest (as all heroes do right before their road to redemption begins), and it's not just the TVA issues that is primarily driving Loki, it's the fact that he's seen everything that has happened to him and his standard timeline variant (killed by Thanos, Frigga's death, etc) and it's been a slow burn since season 1 to the eventual realization that good and evil can be a choice, and he wants to do this one thing right even if it might mean his erasure from existence entirely, that if he got his friends back and prepared them and the rest of timelines for the coming war against Kang, that if he perished this time, it would be worth it, it would be a noble death, and it would be its own reward, and that would finally redeem Loki to the point where he'd be welcomed into Valhalla with open arms and Thor would finally see his brother, despite them being different peoples, as his equal.

I still think he's a liar. He wants to befriend everyone and then betray them. As soon as he saw how Thanos killed him and that reel end, he grew deep hate for how his story was written. The next few episodes we can see his goal being clear to made friends with the TVA people. A huge other reason I think he's lying is because when Sylvie tells him that Mobious really cares about him, he looks away and changes the subject. Then he makes sure to hug Mobious and tell him he's his friend in the void. Now in this episode he starts off by lying about his why and idt he ever stopped lol.

His only guide on this journey is Sylvie, an variant from his own life, who appears in the form of an enchantment that only Loki can see and hear. Or it could also be that he wanted to get rid to the jet ski that used to belong to his wife. Who is obviously either dead or disappeared during the Snap. He wants to move on and stop mourning her, so selling her jet ski would be a good way to do that while also earnings some money, which he needs to pay his family's bills, being a single dad.

One of my favorite moments of the entire series is when Loki tells OB to turn to science. Like most people he looks at big complicated formulas on blackboards, the technology and the engineering while OB actually does science (testing every variable). It is a clever nod to the fact that most people who use the word science don't really ever stop to think what it actually is and leads to the theme of the episode of being able to recognize what is rather than simply what you assume. Here they use the word fiction, but I think the better term would be myth because while all fiction is... well fiction, it never happened, there are true mythical arcs in history. There’s an Easter Egg of sorts that was a blink and miss in the opening title card, with the letters of “LOKI” flashing. They disappear one by one, unique to this intro, and the last two to disappear are the “I” and the “O” which are binary for on and off respectively, with “O” being the last thing you see before the screen goes dark, as if the power is being turned off.

Not because this series does it badly! Not at all! It's that it does it so well that it seems so confusing and inspired at the same time. It actively makes me think about what the story could mean, what is happening, if various actions create a paradox, if this really is chaos or order, a line or a loop. It is thought provoking, which is far better than some of the more bland sludge Marvel has cranked out in recent years.

There are several hints in this episode that act as loose but convincing evidence that Loki is the progenitor of the TVA and its headliners that we've seen throughout both seasons. Two things stood out to me: when Loki said "a union of form and function" to 'normal life' Mobius, he passed it off as a neat sales slogan, as if he had never heard the turn of phrase before. It wasn't one of those "that's just what I was thinking/gonna say" cliché time travel moments. We know that this later becomes a beloved Mobius catchphrase - or rather, earlier - in the order of episodes released, but layer in the show's world timeline. Maybe Loki planted that in Mobius' mind. The other instance is a glaring one and it's the fact that Ouroboros' base of operations in the 'real world' is the exact same layout and architecture as his workshop in the TVA. As we know that Ouroboros and his TVA workshop play a critical role in the history of the TVA and in the erased memories of the members (having met Mobius before, but when exactly, we do not know), I feel that the TVA was somehow first *'conceived'* in episode 5 when Loki was seemingly trying to bring the TVA *back*. Added with the fact Loki can timeslip at will by the end of the episode, it seems like he's discovering his own place and ability in the timeline, inside *and* outside the TVA. Either Loki made the TVA or the team of characters collectively made it. A case of 'self fulfilling prophecy'.

It makes sense if Loki, not He Who Remains, was the one to recruit Mobius, OB and the others. If He Who Remains were doing the recruiting, surely he would choose people who had some experience in working similar jobs to what would be expected of them in the TVA. Police officers, FBI agents, soldiers, real judges... Not a jet ski salesman or an unsuccessful author.
He Who Remains would never choose someone like Mobius and the others, as he would be picking people for their expertise. Whereas Loki picked them because they were his friends.

Some DJ trivia that furthers the vinyl record analogy:
    1. the side of a record is physically one continuous groove…aka one timeline
    2. some records made specifically for highly advanced DJ performance (aka turntablism) will contain a groove thats cut to loop back on itself, not run out at the end…’like snake eating it’s tail’
    3. the most popular dj softwares use vinyl records containing an analog timecode that the dj’s computer converts to a digital signal to control music files. this allows a DJ to have the power to seamless move anywhere in the timeline but also loop and manipulate the audio…sort of like a TemPad. Plus with a large enough hard drive, the DJ has huge amounts of the history of recorded music at their fingertips…which is kinda like time-travel.

I think it's because Loki is an agent of chaos. So it's just more likely that a Loki will end up creating a nexus event.
I see it that "free will" is a continuum. I'm sure there are a few dogs or less sentient beings that caused branched timelines and had to be pruned, plenty of humans obviously, and then a TON of Lokis. I think all Lokis are just really unpredictable beings, in a "the multiverse is just a manifestation of probabilistic events" theoretical physics kinda way. Lokis are agents of chaos because of how literally random they are. They have the most free will, like actually. It's probably why they are all so different too. Not just in appearance, but in character and personality.

    Theory:
Loki and Sylvie create a “new”/The TVA. Since they killed HWR, he is no longer in charge of the story, but instead it’s the Council of Kangs.
Loki and Sylvie’s TVA is one of free will and choice, but allowing those variant timelines also allows Kangs to rise up, and enables the Multiversal War.
The Avengers from all of the timelines assemble in a single remaining timeline or even a new timeline for Secret Wars. Loki collects them similar to how he collected his TVA pala

Man I love this TV series! The series is essentially about 'What Ifs' and 'Do-overs'. The character development is just wonderful and the joy of TV series is there's the time to play with this stuff vs a film where you only have 2 hours. Loki gets so much more development and focus in this series than what was developed over the span of 10 years of original MCU. The journey that Loki has gone through from his original belief that because he is a god, he can do what he wants for personal gain to now eventually realizing that there is a higher power that has chartered his life and determined his purpose. He is the catalyst of disruption and change. Change is painful but you need it to grow and evolve.
He Who Remains knew that at some point of time, he would die and the TVA would die. Thus the fail safe that in the event that were to happen, all the staff would just roll back to their original branched timelines with their memories wiped. In a way, at least He Who Remains didn't let them get killed and thus the 'thank you for your service'. The TVA functions like a government ministry and a kind of 'Public Service'. The episode shows us the original lives and character qualities of OB, Mobius, B15 and Casey. But as much as we thought that Loki was going to get the band back together ala Nick Fury and the Avengers, Sylvie's comment that in doing so, that just makes Loki selfish for forcing these people out of their normal lives just to save the TVA because he wanted to. The difference with grabbing Victor Timely from his timeline was because that was his destiny to make the TVA, but for all these other people, the TVA wasn't their destiny. He Who Remains extracted them and made them work for the TVA originally without their choice. Loki pondered this and that Sylvie was probably right that if he did this, he wasn't giving them a choice and thus regretted and wanted to send them back. Which shows how much he's grown as a person. He's moved away from his original megalomaniac fascist origins to someone with empathy and reason.
Sylvie on the other hand firmly believed in free will and chose to be blissfully ignorant of everything else around her as long as her ideal life is preserved, but she learns eventually that the chaos she caused because of her selfish act of revenge has caused wide spread ramifications to her own world. Utter complete chaos only produces utter destruction and though she ports away and realizes his mistake, even she wasn't spared being spaghettified. Which means that the chaos she caused would only bring about her own destruction. The funny thing though is that Loki is the chosen constant, not even Sylvie even though she's also a Loki variant. Loki is immune to this kind of time radiation, which means he cannot die by spaghettification. But instead, he is time slipping against his control.
But yeah the funny thing is Loki's subconscious thoughts about his friends and situation is allowing him to show up in places and points in time that have meaning and purpose. At first he thought he could control the 'why' about the situation and its meaning, but later he realizes he can control the time slipping anchoring the thoughts on the 'who', the people and the characters. Empathy, is about tapping into someone elses feelings and thoughts, and Loki now understands that now that he understands empathy, he can control time slipping at will. This was a guy who didn't comprehend empathy in the beginning and now totally understands it.
Which makes Loki a true powerhouse because he literally is one of the most powerful entities in the MCU, and without the use of any item of power! Sylvie had He Who Remains master Tempad and even she wasn't spared being spaghettified. Loki has literally become the new He Who Remains but even better because he can manipulate events at will, but would it be for the better?

Great take, Ryan. I have to say, this show runs deeper than any other Marvel property. For example, I was adopted as an infant, like Loki, and it's finally in the psychological record that this tends to create intense separation anxiety paradoxically combined with isolationist instincts. It's not fun. I feel like Loki's arc is a really on-point representation of the adoptee's dilemma. You can't process trauma that you can't access, so you continually act out your own worst scenario, ouroboros-style.

I really feel Loki broke the 4th wall in that moment when he realized “It’s about who.”
Kinda spoke to me that Marvel is back to telling amazing stories for its fans ❤

@ScreenCrush There is a few odd audio ducks in this edit. The dog gets really quiet near 21:35 for example, and some of the movie clips as well.

Loved the episode! But here’s a thing: when Loki returns to the workshop after seeing Sylvie, he uses a time door, even though he has no tempad and the one OB has built is in the workshop and in shot when Loki steps through the time door. Is this just an honest mistake or was there a deleted scene where Sylvie opened a door for him? The latter would make sense as that could explain how Sylvie knows where to go when she needs to escape the record store a little later in the episode.

This show is the BEST kind of sci-fi - deeply philosophical, intricate, ,multilayered, with compelling, emotionally real characters. It makes you think, it draws you in, and it trusts that you will be able to follow, and, eventually, get it. Firkin brilliant.

The episode was amazing! I also really liked how Loki made himself look better before going to see Mobius. Also I find it interesting that the four were all on Altered Timelines, that none were on the Sacred Timeline.
    But yeah this was amazing.

Hearing everyone shotgun ideas, the one I like the best is the Avenger Prime aspect. Mostly because I can't see how Loki can downgrade himself from the power he has achieved.

Same here. I personally don't see how Loki could change his god status so easily without breaking the rules of being a god in the MCU. Because if the option of changing one's god status was always a thing then why didn't he try doing so earlier in his life in an effort to become more loved? And what about Thor in Thor: Ragnarok? If that option to become the god of something else existed why didn't he consider it? If they do end up going down that route they're going to have to provide a good explanation. Because otherwise it wouldn't make any sense.

First Victor Spaghettified. Then Sylvies food, Loki’s shot glass, the universe she’s in, the temp pad, and then the universe the group is in once Sylvie arrives. I think the destruction is following Sylvie and somehow she has become a black hole swallowing everything she comes into contact with. It could be why Loki’s time skipping is correlated with “Who,” meaning Sylvie and why her record symbolized a black hole in that scene. It could be Loki removing himself from all space and time created two singularities which are depicted on He Who Remains window

Has anyone considered that OB could be a He Who Remains variant? The way they looked at each other when they met 😍, and even though he built that temporal aura reader, he may not have considered his aura would unlock the system.

I don't think so given he seemed happy to have visitors and collaborators both times he met Loki and Mobius "for the first time." Kang understands needing to have people around him but mainly to use as pawns rather than as actual teammates.
