People joke about this. But I remember one of the most terrifying moments playing MWO where, while my team was moving along the canyons on that one ice map, we got completely flanked by a group of 3 ECMed Atlases. And I was the person who got to see them first. And then I was dead.
You were successfully scouted :D
Ah yes, the Steiner Scout Lance experience.
You should have put bees in their cockpits.
The comm-logs from the incident:
SM2: "I think we're clear. Keep moving."
SM1: "Keep your eyes up."
SM1: "Someone cover behind us. They might be flanking."
SM3: "Copy."
SM1: "SM3, report."
SM3: "Looks clear... oh, no."
SM1: "SM3, come in."

I love my D-DC
No one can report your exsistence if they are all dead.
That's my strategy in MSGV...
If they aren't firing at least 3 PPCs in your direction, they haven't actually spotted you. They're probably just randomly firing puny medium lasers in a training exercise.

The more dead Cappellans the better!
Which do you squash first? A rat, or a Cappellan? At least the rat can be useful to science in a lab. A Cappellan? Not so much.
@@franksmedley8619 Unless you consider forbidden sciences a thing?
The Cappellans need to be stomped into oblivion. Only thing worse than Battletech's Cappellans, would be a real-world equivalent, which the CPC seems to be on course for.

Me: what a tragedy, those poor souls
F2: But they were capellans

Agreed 👍
Eternal gratitude to our brave Recon forces, clearing the way for the Heavy Mechs to go in.
And great thanks to the Vanguard forces, for clearing the way for the Super-Heavy Mechs.
But, arent they heavier than heavy mechs? They are assault mechs afterall
That is indeed the joke.
@@shrekzebee4435 they sent in three stone rhinos on top of each other in a trench coast as one mech, happy now?
Its much easier to get an accurate count of enemy forces after they're no longer moving around. Command does love precise accurate numbers.
It's easier to count the dead because, as you pointed out, they aren't moving.
@@MrBingogogo well sometimes there is the added challenge of figuring out which bits go with which enemy to make sure you are not counting anything twice.

I would totally pay a metric fucktonne of money to see full, 30+ minute episodes of Steiner Scout Squad to be animated, voiced and fully realized.
Stealth is "an" option, as in "The option that we will ignore entirely"
This is correct. Also rejoin the legion you lazy fuck!
But no witnesses = plausible deniability so totally stealthy! :D
well actually what the guy doing the voice for Friedrich 1 said was „... ist optional.“ „...(stealth) is optional.“
they had the option, but they lacked the ability........
@@thurin84Why bother with ability when you can just turn the enemy assets into a Smoked Ruin?
There's three ways to do something. The right way, the wrong way, and the Steiner way (which is really just the wrong way, but with a LOT of Atlases)
When you have a lot of Atlases you are by definition doing it the right way.

I'm convinced this is a reference to the Battle of The Bees from WW1. Basically German colonial troops in Africa, fought a battle with British forces across a field of trees, trees with hives of bees in them, bees which did not appreciate people having a battle so close to their homes

Reminds me of my Battletech play through. After I got the Argo, I obeyed my client's orders to "become stronger" and spent 12 years building up my team. Rejoined the plot with the Argo completely restored, a full roster of max-skilled pilots, and a primary lance made up of a King Crab and three Stalkers, all with +++ weapons and maximum jump jets. I was using the King Crab as my "recon" 'mech, since my scout always took the most fire. In this case, a scout with two +20 damage and +instability AC20s. The only "difficult" plot missions after that were the ones where I had to bring other character(s) in their own 'mech(s). I'm fairly certain I wasn't *supposed* to play that way, but it was very stompy, and very effective. :-D
In the interest of full disclosure, I also lucked out and salvaged a +2 damage LRM20 within the first dozen missions. A weapon dropping 120 damage that early in the game *substantially* changed the play balance. Commandos and Locusts do not weather that well. Later paired with Breaching Shot, it actually nerfed the computer's use of the original (and very broken) Bulwark trait.
It is the Steiner way, after all
When I found the catapult and the LRM15 +2 damage, it became a magic roller coaster. Later I have found another catapult and three of those guns. Death from above anyone?
@@SeanPGorman Not Steiner enough, there were no Atlases in that scout lance.
Or Mechassault 1 where you have to destroy 3 lances of catapults guarding WOB generals but the mission recommends medium mechs. I obviously picked the Atlas because why not.
There is no such thing as overkill, only a job well done
"What did you find?"
"We encountered an enemy heavy lance. It was here on the map. It's not there anymore"
"Did you see where they went?"
"I meant it doesn't exist anymore... Neither does this hill."
yepp, Steiners.. :D
This is literally me two missions after Size Matters part 2 in Mechassault. 1 whole column of Catapult heavies gone in 2 minutes.
Yeah the Atlas really destroy the catapults on that mission in a blaze of fire and glory, what an amazing game!
Ahhh, the Atlas in its natural habitat... In a Steiner scout Lance, leaving no survivors. The apex of stealth strategy.
Except for... you know... that massive amount of distress calls that went out before the HPG was destroyed...
Your position can't be revealed if everyone is dead.
@@johndoe5432 news flash knucklehead, EVERYONE will see the Atlases coming, they aren't fast and they can't exactly HIDE with that height of theirs... And really what kind of response is that? It hardly matters if you kill everyone because you've already been spotted and reported... Even if they were invisible to eyesight for whatever reason, they'd still be picked up on planetary sensors, not to mention before everyone has died or surrendered, enemy recon infantry can keep tabs on it...

They say it is better to ask forgiveness than permission. I have done and will do neither, for the sin of creating a character in MWO named "Freidrich Drei Aktual" who began to pilot Atlases and only Atlases the moment I could afford one. My options for trial mechs was limited, so I made the only concession against the theme by piloting the trial King Crab until I could begin the Atlas legacy. At least it was also conceived by Aleksander Kerensky. If I decide to delve into faction warfare, my drop deck will consist of two Atlases and the only non-Atlas option that could be considered -- two Urbanmechs, rounding the selection out to a valid 260 tons of pure awesomeness.
