I agree. Konami was kickass at doing a lot of great game soundtracks. Even though this game was wicked hard, I could get down and funky to that first stage music. Konami has done great music for their other games (Contra, Castlevania, etc.)
Such a great game and an even better soundtrack. Remember beating this game and thinking "I'll never do anything else in life that will top this moment... "
So THIS is where that song came from. Its been way too long since i ever saw this game when my dad played it but that funky tune (the first bgm) still resonated in my head. I always say this, Konami was top of their game especially in the music department
Sometimes you gotta persist, took me a good two weeks of that and planned strategies to beat this game only once, and it only cost me a bloody knuckle :P
***** I found as an adult that I was much more easily able to strategize how to deal with the enemies than when I was a kid. Some games do this in odd ways.
+mcdonkey500 This game was always a pain in the ass. Though I did love all the sound effects you could access. I used them in conjunction with my G.I. Joe toys.
I would love to speak with any of the people who contributed to making that last track. I’m sure most if not all of them are retired now, probably with wife and kids, or at least I’d like to hope to think that’s the case. Because even though I may think of myself as a hopeless romantic, it still means I’m at least a romantic, whether it’s hopeless or not. I’m sure the people you who made the last track also are romantics to be able to make such an incredibly beautiful romantic song. I hope they finally found the women of their dreams. Maybe someday I will too, and you as well, if you haven’t already, for anyone that may be reading this. She’s out there somewhere…it’s just a matter of finding her! Just go find her and make it happen. So I ask…”How far will you go for the girl of your dreams?”
Ive heard so many modern day 8bit tracks try and fail to sound like genuine Nes songs..they had a flex..sway..flow and stretch to the sounds that is just fantastic
One of my favorite games because of the music, and the story was pretty decent. A very hard game, but when you get rewarded with one of the most touching endings on the NES it's all worth it. The only thing I didn't like was the driving stages, they just went on and on and I always ended up hurting my thumbs.
If there was ever a proper use of the term "this slaps" it would be for this soundtrack. Literally see the slaps when I hear the 1st stage music. Its that good.
They actually were all established musicians or music students from the nearby Kyoto School of Music, iirc. It was a very special sync up between the development that was going on at the time and the creative types that were in the area. It's pretty legendary, actually. That's why so many of their soundtracks just hit in that special way.
it doesn't sound bad at all tbh. it's just something to get used to. anyway, thanks for uploading this playlist! i hate having to switch video's every song. keep up the good work, and keep the NES music alive! :D
For anyone interested, this just released on a 7inch Green vinyl. First release in Ship to Shore's Konami Kukeiha Club Museum Series. I'm excited for this, ordered one for myself.
My cousin had this when we were very, very young. I didn't ever own the title as a child. But, she did. I believe she stopped gaming shortly thereafter, and I believe I understand why she stopped and I still go on.
I always made it to the final boss beat never beat it to get to the girl of my dreams. Ballsey game, but I liked the diversity in play styles: brawling, racing, and shooting.
Thanks Wiiguy309 for all the hard work. You brought the 8-bit tracks to life with the stereo sound. I'm have been sitting on RUclips for hours listening to your work. The BEST!
Thanks a lot! I'm really happy to see my work of enhancing these soundtracks become more well known! But be sure to check the download link for a less reverby quality as opposed to the videos, its my best mix yet! ;D
Yeah, I remember that boss theme as a kid too. All I remember is when that song kicked in I was dead. Buff dude came out and all I heard was ruuahhh... ruahhh.. Hard game but the tunes are simply awesome.
I like so much the music from the first Car Drivin' stage, a challenging stage that I can only finish if keep hearing it when playing. My other favorite is the Boss Theme, one of the top 10 NES boss melodies in my opinion. It sounds like you will fight a "formidable" opponent, as if you are going to the fight of your life, it's simply A-W-E-S-O-M-E!!! Stage Clear and Game Over musics are very motivational. Generally, all the tracks are awesome. The only track I never heard in the game is the ending. Some years ago I almost beat the game but was defeated before entering Gordo's mansion. Some day I will do it.
I hear you. The tricks were to do all the practice stages first. They gave you 100 Extra bullets for shooting stages, an extra life bar... and I can't recall the third bonus. That and "make enemies carry meat balls and weapons for you" It sounds kinda stupid but if you ever play Bayou Billy again -figure out my second tip and- try them.
Amazing soundtrack, excellent game, kept me playing for quite a while! Heard the 'game over' track way too many times, but yes, we made it. Haha, thank you for posting this, and for the great memories.
It sounds great on my headset on all the videos you've posted so no complaints from me there. It's great to hear it as it actually sounded on the TV while playing these great games.
One of the main reasons why I loved this game was the music! I'd literally play the soundtrack in the soundtest option over and over again. The game itself was hard as fuck, cruel as hell, but I beat it after what seemed like forever.
Has anybody ever heard actual creole/zydeco/cajun music that sounds like this? This soundtrack is clearly inspired by something but after quickly browsing some cajun music on the internet I'm hearing similar sounds but nothing quite like this. I absolutely love when NES composers created music that sounds fantastic on an 8-bit chip but was clearly intended for "real" instruments and inspired by specific genres.
Instead of saying how hard this game is, I'll share my experience of when I beat it. I guess I felt masochistic that night, but I decided to play Bayou Billy one fine Halloween night after all the Trick-or-Treaters fucked off for the night. Originally I only completed the training stages but I decided to play the main game for a bit. It just sort of snowballed, because I actually managed to beat Stone Cold Steve Austin. Then I finished the driving stages in one continue... Then I made it to Gordon's estate... And then I beat Rocky and Rocko. I was stunned. The guy who can't beat Pero's Great Adventure beat Bayou Billy. I took a picture of 'The End' screen. I remember my Facebook status from that night. "I beat Bayou Billy! I should be rolling in pussy!"
hahahahahah thanks to your comment, my buddy and i decided to play it again last night. jesus christ that game is hard....but the soundtrack alone is enough to keep playing it!

Love this game. I can finally admit to everyone that I always thought the last track was one of the most romantic themes I've ever heard in a game. At least a hundred of these page views came from me. Beat the game many times without any cheats just so that I can hear the ending and kiss my girl. Nothing would stop me: killing gators for meat, dynamiting cars just because they were there, beating up thugs in the French Quarter with whips... I guess I'm a hopeless romantic. And a bit strange! :D

Konami's sound engineers and composers transcended the hardware. This soundtrack was masterful.
I agree. Konami was kickass at doing a lot of great game soundtracks. Even though this game was wicked hard, I could get down and funky to that first stage music. Konami has done great music for their other games (Contra, Castlevania, etc.)
Mick Dun Dee and Bayou Billy team up to go on a mission. Mick says "Good d'ay mate." Bayou says "EEEEEEEEEEEEWWW WE dat be good now."
The Konami Kukeiha Club!

Those congas, that guitar like strumming, that bass line 😱
It’s like they hired Miami Sound machine to create the soundtrack and like you said idk how Konami made music like this on the NES😂

I have to comment again, this quality is amazing. It's like loadin' up the cartridge and playing thru the game. Continue your work by all means.
