Sri Lanka's official name is the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, an island state in South Asia. From the time of the Portuguese invasion until 1972, it was called Ceylon in European languages.
Sri Lanka is a country of tea, jungle, Asian flavor and surfing. People come to this island to walk through evergreen forests, swim in the warm Indian Ocean under the hot equatorial sun, admire large turtles and migrating whales. Over its more than two thousand-year history, Sri Lanka has become a real cultural treasury of human civilization.
