There probably was a problem with the wheel bearing as well. The garage makes little on a customer that isn't happy. Bodø isn't a big town and scamming people isnt great for getting work.
I grew up in Lofoten and I love seeing you explore my old stumping grounds 😍
    Keep on exploring!

Devastating about the van issues, can totally understand Nicola having it play on mind, I'd have wanted the ball baring they supposedly took off to see if it had worn. Anyway its a closed chapter, and move onward. Another fantastic hike and happy to see the humour coming back after a bad situation 😉

Hi Guys What a tale of woe! In the circs you have done very well to remain calm. The garage would appear to have tried to resolve the unfortunate damage.Easy to say but you have to put it down to life's rich treasures. I thought it was only us who had issues with flooded homes, garages builders, workmen et all! All the very best from a very wet West Sussex coast this afternoon. Kind regards Crawford

My heart sunk a bit on the start here.
It really sux you were involved in such unfortunate chain of events.
I was very happy to see the turn around and the fact that they tried correcting the problem in the tricky vacation times.

Worst nightmare that could have been a whole lot worse I guess. At least you got sorted and are back on the road. Difficult to challenge the bearing after the work had been done so you just need to draw a line. Easy to say I know. Looking forward to your Lofoten episodes.

You should have insisted on keeping the extracted bearing…for detective work…id look out for uneven tyre wear now..in case it starts crabbing…id keep on top of the tyre pressures daily..to avoid putting the blame on that..

Each day at a time, One day you will see this as just one of life's events, The wife and I broke down in Spain last year for 10 days, Luckily we could stay in the van, but after 7 days the wife was going crazy/upset, but I was able to fix it myself (the 10 days was waiting for parts) Such a great feeling to be on the move again. Remember it could have been worse, you are fit and healthy and safe and help is there.

Aw so sorry it was something like that and not a speeding ticket as some of us thought. Glad it worked out in the end, but I would definitely ask for money back if they changed a bearing that didn't make the sound! That was after all what you asked for, even if it needed changing. "Sure penger" or sour money, as we say here. Not sure how to translate it to English, but it means something like paying for something that wasn't planned and it feels annoying. Looking forward to seeing your Lofoten chapter. Hope this didn't put a too big of a damper on your travels.

    Don't worry, they will be.
It's still a good idea to put bike locks on though, just to be safe.
You won't have any real danger of theft till you get to the big cities as long as you got locks on.
(Without locks kids might do stupid stuff on impulse)
    18:55
Perhaps mention the name of the good garage?
No need to mention the other.
But the good one deserves that reputation boost.

a damaged/broken bearing makes this distinct humming noise, a tyre issue could sound similar but the running surface of a tyre is very easily checked visually and by feel... missing chunks of rubber on (in most cases) all weather or winter tyres are usually the culprit with noises which are in tune with the rotation of the wheels...

@@TheTravellersCookeBook Like checking fluid levels in the engine bay it is good practise to check the contact surface with the road regularly... I recently was able to get my motorcycle license and in this real of locomotion, checking all important things like oil-, coolant-, brake fluid- and tyre condition is common to be a daily occurance...
Maybe a good idea to run your hand over the running surface of your tyres just to check if any irregularities are present:a nail, a missing chunks of rubber, a bulge possibly or the like... If you do so, do it slowly and prevent running your hand into a potentially sharp object like said nailor possibly exposed tyre reinforcing wire...
You don need to do it every day (unless you are in the alps doing 600 switchbacks every day) but every week or if a noise is heard coming from the tyres or bearings...
