    Sulawesi Shrimp, otherwise known as Caridina dennerli are a species of freshwater shrimp native to small lake systems in Indonesia. It takes its name from the German company Dennerle, which supported the expedition that led to the scientific description of the species. It is commonly known as the cardinal shrimp in the aquarium hobby. These shrimp require a rather specific setup due to their isolated evolution. Follow my quick guide to ensure your aquarium is properly set up for your future shrimp!

      I hear you, it’s difficult having a high ph and low tds at the same time. I breed shelldwellers from lake tanganyika they also need a high ph, but are not picky about tds in fact I think they prefer high tds. I use aragonite sand that keeps the ph high. Really enjoying your channel sir!💯⭐️

    I smacked my monitor before you even said it, I saw seed shrimps and I kept smacking to "hopefully" make them go away. But on a lighter and less violent note, you sold me on ramshorns, I got 2 for myself and I wanna see if they can make babies while being the gentle gardeners for my susswassertang haha! I would love those Sulawesi shrimps too but man like you know in canada we get power outtages in some areas for days, even here in Montreal, and that would slaughter them unless I light a campfire next to them , or build my entire setup in an ugly insulation box 🤣 Anyways have a great day man, loved the video.

    Nobody else notice the substrate rocks and everything else crawling? Those seed shrimp? I've never had those, I assume they are totally fine and probably help cycling and maturing the tank.....but dayyyyum....its crawling. Grim. But love the idea of sulaweisi, im considering getting them myself as my tap water sits at about 7.5 PH.

    • @BobMossNanoTanks

    I need an update on this. I was plant shopping today and the LFS had a tank full of sulawesi that had just come in for just $10 US. I've got a 36 gallon cycling right now with tap water that is a little too hard but I could easily cut with some RO. My cull tank has tap water that is growing MONSTER cherry culls so it should be safe beyond the hardness. I've checked multiple sites and every one has different info ranging from "not that hard" to "basically God damn impossible". I need Bob Moss to give me the truth.

    • @BobMossNanoTanks
      @BobMossNanoTanks  2 года назад +1

      Truth is... I killed them all.
      My pH dropped to like 7.8 from 8.2 and they kind of just... disappeared. Assuming the snails / neos ate the bodies. I am having a big issues figuring out how to dissolve this stupid sulawesi mineral. The most important factors seem to be pH and temp, if you have those down then the shrimp don't seem to be too difficult. Clearly my pH was not spot on.

    • @jakefwtx4214
      @jakefwtx4214 2 года назад

      @@BobMossNanoTanks Oh man. Sorry to hear that. I had already cooled off on my initial excitement because I realized I was about to get in over my head. I'm pretty bad about keeping my pH rock solid for some reason, so this just confirms I would have wasted my money. I know Marks Shrimp Tanks made a video about having to use his DIY CO2 rig for like 2 days to dissolve the salt mix or it didn't mix correctly. Others said to heat up some water and mix a concentrated amount in, then add it to the final amount you're using, but that's some serious trial and error with evaporation from the heating. That really sucks that they didn't make it. My wife will be relieved to hear that I'm not going to try those expensive ass shrimp.

    • @jakefwtx4214
      @jakefwtx4214 2 года назад

      @jakefwtx4214 2 года назад +1

      @@BobMossNanoTanks I haven't done the research all that in depth, but I have noticed on other sulawesi tanks, people seems to skip the plants. Given that the KH is going to be relatively moderate with the pH needing to be constant, could the plants be throwing it off? I know I've seen people say that plants can fluctuate pH due to CO2 being consumed during daylight hours but not at night, so pH can be lower in the morning. Without that big boy KH value, it may be enough to cause problems for them. Just a thought I suddenly had.
