    That kid was more than likely 11. Expectations should be tempered a little. With language like "The Ace is here" and it's the legendary of the team... The kid is just trying to live out their pokemon dreams. They had a good attitude too, despite the frustrations their lack of knowledge brought them.

    Jokes aside, when we encounter these kinds of players we should take some time to explain them what's happening, because I think that every time something they don't understand happens, they lose interest, and we lose players, if we instead explain (in detail) what's happening, they can feel safer on the site and not thinking that everyone is cheating

      To play the devils advocate: there are like 10,000 different moves, abilities, effects, and mechanics.

      This is a good thing for him, a learning experience. Everyone was new at one point. I'm just glad that there are people who are willing to try and learn at all, much less try to learn through PVP. He was confused and a bit clueless, but not malicious or mean. I'm hopeful for his future. :)

      As someone who isn’t very good at battling myself, I’ve enjoyed testing the waters on Showdown lately. I’ve completely avoided the meta and I’m just kind of trying what I feel like that day and making a team around it and it’s been really fun! I encourage players like him to stick around, he’d improve with time haha

      It's not even the attack stat being bad
      You're stealing HP from something that has 15hp. Drain Punch heals for half the actual damage, not the percent stolen.

      I do wonder about the viability of Black Sludge + Fling on something like Weavile. I know there’s better sets for it, but surprising a non-Steel, non-Poison switch-in with something unexpected might buy Weavile a little momentum.

    This is honestly one of the more painful ones to watch just because I feel so bad for the opponent. He’s definitely new, or at least hasn’t played enough to know about certain move mechanics, but he’s clearly got some skill when it comes to using good mons and move sets, mostly.
    It’s honestly adorable, in a “We we’re all like this at one point” kinda way.

    I feel bad for them, but they tried. Even had some good pokemon and a good strategy going. They just need to understand the team they've made a bit more. What's nice to see is this is clearly a team made of pokemon they actually like and you don't see that too often

      Given what they were doing with the spoon, I don’t think it’s the worst idea. Using Trick to steal a leftovers and give the target an item that’s totally useless to them. Screens are common enough for Light Clay to be useful on occasion.

    I feel like Black Sludging your non-poison mon is just a rite of passage at this point. I definitely did that as a kid and was confused that Sawk kept taking damage from it instead of healing like the Garbodors I had fought before.

      Weavile is definitely faster, Sableye gets Prankster. Edit: as comments have pointed out, Prankster fails vs other dark types, which I forgot.

    I think my favourite strat in showdown is my free for all garydos set.
    I give it a leftovers
    I give it max hp and max def with a careful nature
    I also give it substitute, dive, bounce and double team
    It only ever dies either turn 1 or to it struggling to death
