I purchased that Arca-Swiss plate and mounted it on my 2006 Cabelas carbon fiber tripod as it has the same ball as a Manfroto. It is a solid head as I shoot my Barrett 98B in .300 Win. Mag. From it and it stays rock solid. I have taken many mule, whitetail, fallow deer, antelope, aoudad and Spanish goats off my set up. Great tips on your video and that tri-pod is superior to mine as I like the twist lock legs.
As a rifle tripod, this is a keeper. My AR-15 is 9.2 pounds, and you can tighten the ball, and it stays put. BUT the best part of this tripod is the two included mounting brackets for camera equipment. If you remove the screw for camera mounting and use Mlok fasteners it fits very nicely to the rifle. Easy on and off of the tripod. Using a standard hunting rifle will require a little more design.
I ordered one, but left the ballhead out and went with the Sunwayfoto IB-30 Low Profile Inverted Ballhead with Picatinny/Nota Arca Swiss Adapter Clamp. very pleased with the setup.
Man, I’m not a hunter, but I am a photographer. You did a bang up job on that review. The details are just what I was looking for. Praise you for your upfront and accuracy of the criteria of the tripod.. I will be ordering me one. Thank you.
Got into coyote and hog hunting at night 3 yrs ago. Same as you looking to upgrade from the bog pod death grip for full range of motion. Not knocking the bog pod it's great. Just wanting full range of motion. Gonna look at this one hard. Thanks for the no B.S. REVIEW. Thank You and Stay Safe.
For those who already own a bog but want a ball head tripod you can convert them pretty easily instead of buying a new tripod. not hating on the video great review man very centered no nonsense and straight forward exactly what a review should be. and I didn't have to hear about RAID SHADOW LEGENDS!!!! cant stand stupid sponsor plugs but I get it lol
Nice vid! That tripod is an Amazon brand, but the price is low and the quality is there, so why not? Just a few things to add. First, Arca Swiss plates should have safety stops on both sides. It’s just a little hex bolt sticking up at either end of the plate that keeps it from slipping out should the clamp be less than tight. Second, stability starts at the feet. I’m gonna assume that tripod uses 3/8”x16 threaded feet, which means there’s a world of good options including spikes with thread-on rubber tips. Spikes can get expensive, I’ve seen titanium spikes that are over $100. I use stainless 3/8” hardware, a 4” stainless stud allows you to adjust the length of your spike depending on ground conditions. I use a nut and 3/8” stainless fender washer to stop the tripod leg from sinking into the ground. Furniture casters are made in 3/8” thread, 3 small ones will keep you from stabbing yourself with your own tripod… Lastly, the model number of the tripod - “324”. That’s a 32mm top section, 4 sections. Useless information unless you know that the tripod maker sticks to the same standards in their whole line. For example, LeoFoto uses the same naming scheme, their 364 is about the equivalent tripod. Let’s say you’re on a hillside and you want your downward leg to be much longer. You can grab their 284 monopod, replace the last section of one leg with 3 sections of the monopod, and you have a long downhill leg and a level tripod.
Those arca plates are great for spotting scope and they have a mount for binoculars and phones and whatever you want. I saw one with little quick release mounts on the side of the leg to add stuff like cameras ect.
GREAT ADVISE , I HAVE THE FINALE REST SYSTEM . AFTER SEEING YOU VIDEO I WILL BUY THE ONE YOU HAVE . THANKS FOR DOING A THERAL REVIEW AND INFORMATIVE VIDEO.
@@OwnTheHunt Im working on a bench/tripod setup to shoot prairie dogs at 500+ yards. Its usually a little window so rigid while adjusting windage is important. Led-sleds stink! I hope this is the golden ticket.
I ordered one of these based on your video and just got it in. Seems very nice for the price! Thanks for the heads up on this one! I ordered the “used” from Amazon to save a little more cash and it looks like it has never been out of the box. It looks like the box was opened and taped back shut. I assumed that is why they couldn’t sell as a “new”. Now I gotta wait for my adapter plate to mount my rifle!
Great review mate. I’ve been looking at getting a tripod for my night time hunting and stumbled across your review. I’ve just ordered and and subscribed. Cheers again from Australia 👍🏻
Great review! I like when shooters (not saying you did) use the phrase or make the general assumption about camera tripods being "less than" My Nikon D4s and telephoto weights 12lbs or more and cost more then probably 3 of my rifles. And that's cheap for a close to out dated camera. So we'll done
Remember that you might be 6ft tall and a 6ft tripod will work for most things but if u ever need to set up on a really uneven ground you might need to make a leg extend to 78inches to be on the downhill side just to get the thing at the right height.
I completely agree with you but in order to get a tripod that will accommodate that you will spend a lot more money. I’m using a fatboy tripod now and I absolutely love it and wouldn’t use anything else!
Thanks for the video. I was just looking at this on Amazon and got rid of the bog death grip for the exact same reason. Bog should take note of this. This one also looks like the one from night goggles minus the center column.
Are you pleased with this over the bog? I've made up a set up using vanguard t62u tripod with 44mm ball head and clamp. It's good but looking for a more sturdy tripod to hopefully be more steady on aim etc. seen a version of this with 36mm top leg for a fair price.
I’m trying to put a low budget one together! Don’t hunt yet , just want a tripod that will hold a rifle! Looking for a clamp I can put on a Primos trigger stick tripod!
Man you gave an awesome review. I found the center column has a cracked bushing. Is this normal for this item. I ordered 2 from amazon and they both had cracked bushings. Did you happen to notice this? This is for the Innorel GT324C tripod. This is an outstanding and I want to work with it. I need your expertise on whether to return it or not. Thank you.
Hey, great advice in the video. I just have a question about the overall height of the tripod. I’m 6’4 and was wondering would it let up high enough for me to not have to squat.
Great video, love the detail you go into. I just purchased the 29mm version for use with a 10lb. rifle. Went for the lighter version as I do a ton of hiking with my set-up and will use it for target practice and hunting in the mountains. Great production quality and good luck with your channel!
Now that BOG has the Deathgrip Infinite with the ball head, what are your thoughts on this one compared to that one? Have you had a chance to test the Deathgrip Infinite yet?
I can't find the quick detach clamp on their store. How is this tripod holding up for you? It's been 2 years since the review. Being from China and them discontinuing the clamping head makes me skeptical.
I haven’t used this tripod for over a year now. I have upgraded to a fat boy tripod. Tho I have no doubt this tripod would still be going strong for me if I were to have stayed with it. The clamping top plate is is still available on sunwayfotos website it’s the DDC-50LR
It’s pretty similar. Sunway has a bit higher quality but this one gets taller than the sunway i reviewed. This ballhead is t as solid of a lockup but it’s darn good.
Thanks! Those are called Arca Swiss plates and you need to buy either an Mlok one or a Keymod one if you are using and AR. I bought mine from hog saddle.
I just bought it and want to change the clamp. I have not been able to get the screw to loosen.. what did you do to get the old head off. It seems to be locktited on.. any suggestions ???
It’s extremely hard! It has a lot of locktite. I had to put a Allen key in it and put a piece of small pvc over it to get more leverage. Thank you for watching my video!!
If you just take an extra minute to level the bog tripod before calling problem solved. And why would you not carry rifle with a sling over your shoulder and mount it into tripod after you get to stand location.
I tried to remove the screw for the top plate using an impact drill and every other method I could, and it ended up stripping. It’s almost like they loaded it with Loctite. Did you have any issues getting that top plate screw out?
I just got the tripod and want to change the Arca clamp. My first attempt at removing the existing top almost stripped the hex head.. my question is how did you change the head. Did you have to heat it? I could not get the screw to move. I think it is locktited in place. Any suggestions?
