  • Testing out our usual Grip Rite Underlayment as floor protection and Felt Buster roofing underlayment to see if it performs any better for the extra material cost. Both are impervious to liquids and extremely difficult to tear, making them great flooring protection for a jobsite when refinishing kitchen cabinetry.
This test was to see if the felt buster balled up and produced fibers like the odd batches of grip rite has a tendency to do. That being said these are not the products intended purposes, so we are just trying to find a product that works best for our specific need.

I have always been curious why guys use underlayment. I'm sure it's easier to lay out and cut, but the fibers would drive me crazy. And the cost is quite a bit higher for the same amount of x-board. Rosin doesn't hold up but I have found the best suitable bang for the buck for us is the trimaco X-paper. Thin, waxed, no leaks, easy to lay out and cut, not so rigid to keep taped perimeters like ram board or x board.

Have you ever tried house wrap? Like Tyvek, it’s about the same price. Sure beats rosin paper and ram board.
