I like the hack of putting your shoes in an inside out bag (keeps the inside portion of the bag clean to reuse) and then sticking them in your sleeping bag to keep them from freezing solid and having to 'break' them to put em back on the next day when it's super cold out. 👍

Here are a few more hacks. Take 3-4 feet of paracord and tie a small loop in one end...bowline works great... pack it in belt pocket or somewhere you can get to it without taking your pack off. When you want to hang your pack when taking a break or when you get to camp... whip out your cord, place it around a tree, pass the running end of cord through the pre-tied cord, tie the running end about one foot from thr end of a trekking pole. Tske your pack off , insert long end of trekking pole through left shoulder strap and short end through right shoulder strap. Now your back is out of the snow, mud etc.

One of my favorite hacks is to use cut pieces of drinking straws to create little ampules to be filled with small amounts of various necessities: just cut a length of straw, pinch one end and use a lighter to heat-seal it closed, then fill it with whatever you need (Neosporin, contact solution, salt, pepper, Vaseline, a couple of emergency storm matches, emergency water purification tablets, a little emergency fishing kit with hooks, weights and some line, etc, etc.), then seal the other end. You have a waterproof, spill proof container that weighs a fraction of even travel sized containers. When you need to get into it, cut the end off, use what you need out of it, then seal it back up with your lighter. Maybe a 1 inch length for Neosporin, maybe a 4 inch length for emergency storm matches. So many options, so many uses, I love them! Hacks...best practices...it’s all really helpful info. Thanks so much, Schill Brothers! 🥰 🗺🏕

If you go in the pharmacy area, you can usually find pill bags, which are little tiny ziplock bags usually 1 in x 2 in thereabouts. It's easy to throw in a squeeze of Neosporin or Vaseline, ibuprofen, etc. You can reuse them unlike the straws, as well as refill them. And also that way you're not buying plastic straws.

The only thing gorilla tape does better than good quality duct tape is marketing. Adding thickness to the tape is pretty useless. It doesn’t contour to uneven surfaces as well as a thinner tape, which is pretty important for good adhesion. If you need more strength just add another layer. Quality duct tape adheres just as well as and sometimes better than gorilla tape. Nashua is my favorite.

Loop become attachment point to shoulder strap. The duct tape can be used as fire starter, cord for other purposes... if needed while pack is being carried, attach to pack with recoil device.

Could you post a link for that air pump please? Visit blocks aren't as bad if you at least take them home and wash them, but you could invest in silicone bags or what I have are sous vide bags, and they're just like Ziploc freezer bags, only they are a heavier plastic. And because they are meant to use for sous vide cooking, they can not only handle the hot water being poured into them, but you can place them in boiling water and cook that way. Also take a look at Infinity matches.

Fire starter hacks? Are you serious? I discovered white gas for my Svea stove back in 1971 works about as well as anything! I have also used fuel from my alcohol stoves as well. Hand sanitizer is mostly alcohol and will also build quite a blaze. Chapstick will even burn if you get desperate. I don't carry a specific fire starter. Don't need to.

I do need to get a 2L bag I like. I’m usually just carrying 1L dirty water and sometimes it’s tight in dry sections. But as far as that hack, my hack is to eat dinner and breakfast on the trail. That way you only need enough water at camp for a drink before/after bed. I tend to eat dinner around dusk, ideally with a sunset view, and then setup camp at night.
Having all your day snacks at hand is super-big. I like to just eat all day while I’m on the move. I’ve tried a couple hip bags and hip belt pockets to hold all my snacks, but haven’t found the best fit. I was looking at the GG feedbag to put on my shoulder strap, but it seems too small.

Nice video, thanks! FWIW, you can buy ziplock bags that are made from compostable materials rather than petroleum based plastics. I've bought a few different brands but my current bags are made from sugar cane I think? Best to read the label and research what you buy though as some "biodegradable" bags still contain plastics I think? May be worth checking out though?

I carry capacity for 3-4L all the time... I know i use quite a bit of water in the pm and drink a lot of it as well. The weight investment of the resevoir bags is totally worth the time savings

I have 4 1/2 liter storage plus the smart water bottles I carry. That is only for my INCH bag cause you never know when you have a distance to your watering hole.
