Once again you are spot on. I've been wearing suits to work over 35 years, and the smartest thing I've done is to stop putting anything into my jacket pockets. I used to put pens, business cards and later mobile phones. It changes the entire silhouette and sometimes damages. The jacket. It is great to still be able improve my garment game. Keep shining.
1. If the jacket doesn't fit on the shoulders, don't buy it because it's difficult and expensive to tailor that area. 2. For a thinner lapel, wear a thinner tie, and vice versa. 3. The shirt should fall around the bone of the pinky side of your hand, and the shirt should be visible about half an inch when your arms are free. 4. Button the shirt's top button and make sure you cannot stick more than one finger and not choking you. 5. Follow the "Sometimes, Always, Never" buttons rule. (03:08) Keep the jacket button when standing up and unbutton when sitting. 6. Wear long enough socks to not see your skin when sitting. 7. If you wear a 3-piece suit, unbutton the bottom button of your vest. 8. If you wear a belt, wear a thin leather belt and make sure it matches closely with your shoes. 9. Wear a simple, thin leather watch. 10. Wear as few accessories as possible, like a watch, a tie clip, and a pocket square. You can thank me by memorising these
Well done Sir! I am in midlife changing careers and now I have to wear suits and ties .. I NEED this information and your delivery is mad cool much appreciated! SALUTE!!!
I learned a few things this was nice. The rules for un-buttoning when sitting was a good one. I'm a plus size man and improved from fat and sloppy to large and in charge.
As a guy thats never been taught about style this is a great video. Im taking my wife on a high class dinner for her birthday i want to look my best and im extremely nervous because i don't really wear a suit that offen and i want to look like a southern gentleman not a no style slouch.
Great advice!! I follow all of those except the watch. I only have one color band with my watch, black, and I wore it with every type of shoe either black or brown. I needed that tip. Keep up the good work!
Great vid O.G. I love your channel. I 've been doing a little vacationing but I haven't forgotten about the O.G. your my own personal fashion specialist that I can take on the go with me. Great job. Keep them coming
Very good video! What are your thoughts on suspenders/braces in place of belts? Also, do you approve of bracelet watches? Leather bands don't work for my skin. Keep up the great work!
a bracelet watch can work as an alternative but make sure its minimal and sleek when pairing with a suit. i actually prefer suspenders over a belt with a suit. a belts cut the suit in half, that's why i try to have my pants tailored so I don't need a belt. suspenders are a much better look and allow your pants to drape more naturally...appreciate the support Dwayne!
So glad you talked about the correct buttons to button on the jacket, Jeff. Nothing bugs me more than seeing a gentlemen walking around with that jacket buttoned all the way down. Salute☑️
Holy thread resurrection, but I get it ; though some jackets do have functional buttonholes on sleeves. Jackets with a single button closure are cool but pretty hard to find.
I agree at the end about the accessories, I only wear a Rolex or a Seiko Cotura, no rings, no bracelets.. I think other accessories can easily turn your look from Classy, debonair, educated, to Pimp, Playa, wanna be gangster or just plain looking like your “trying too hard”.
Good simple tips. I'm a bit of a rebel/test things out for myself person though, so I'm still experimenting with the button thing so I can sense for myself what doing up the bottom one does and doesn't do
My father taught me those rules as a boy. I still follow them. A lot of men do it differently now but I prefer the traditional way. The modern ways don’t look good in my eyes.
I own several suits at least 5-6 maybe, they were ordered based on chest size dimensions and pants not hemmed. But I’ve never had the jacket tailored in any way, except getting the pants hemmed. I wasn’t aware how the jacket could be tailored then. But I’m now more aware. I’m guessing it would be better if a suit is slightly too big and be then tailored vs too small to be able to fix. That would seem logical. As in what exactly can a good tailor fix or not fix and why.
The only one I would change is the rule about the tie being the same as your lapel, but only slightly. I think it's acceptable for a guy to use a tie that is no more than .5 wider than the lapel provided his shoulder build. Say if your wearing a jacket with a 2 inch lapel, a 2.5 inch tie would be acceptable but not bigger than that

Question Style OG what if you still have those 90's Suits that had like 5 Buttons what should we do. Do we give them away or follow the instructions you provided
The whole pocket square thing is kind of confusing, is the cloth a pocket square, or is the pocket itself a pocket square, and where do you place your handkerchief, I hear it isn’t interchangeable with a pocket square.
You can absolutely wear a steel sports but it has to be the right one. You can't wear a 52mm Invicta dive watch but no one will question a 42mm Rolex sub. It all depends on what it is.
For some reason my neck and body are wierd af. If i get a dress shirt that fits perfectly, the neck part of the shirt wont button all the way like its so hard to button the very top button but if i buy a shirt that is larger and not as slim of a fit the button is easier to close but the shirt is puffier
The first thing I said (in my head) I’ll throw on my silver sport “Rolex timepiece” looks like the James Bond watch….. lol okay I’ll do the basic leather looking watch 🤷🏿♂️
Jeff what up! I am in the Navy and about to deploy for 6-7 months. Ive been watching your videos for the past month and they are very informative, thanks! My question is this, what would recommend packing for a trip like this. I will be deploying on a ship with very limited space. I know I will be hitting ports up but don't know what type of events ( i.e. Formal, Semi Formal etc.) I will be attending. What do you recommend in my case I want to be able to dress for any occasion but don't want to bring my whole closet, feel me? Help me out OG, thanks in advance. North Philly Stand up!
I would bring a navy suit which could be dressed up but you can also use the jacket as a blazer for less formal situations, a couple of pair of chinos and one pair of black dress shoes and a pair of brown loafers. Philly, Philly, Philly is where I am from!!
50 years old. First time in a suit. This got me out the door! Thanks.
I love it!!

eliminating bulk from the pockets was one of the final cuts from the list! it helps to make for smoother lines. great call Craig!

Another great video. Question, how do you feel about wearing a three piece suit minus the jacket?
This is excellent foundational knowledge that we must keep passing down to our boys. Really well done and all-encompassing 👏
Still digging in these old classics getting ready for a style change
My prom is coming in 1 month and im wearing a three piece suit, should i wear the jacket while eating or can i remove it?
no problem with removing it while you eat..
Any rules regarding lapel pins or napkins in the chest pockets?
I just hit 18 bought a suit but I didn’t know how to wear one since i had no one teach me u helped me thanks man!
This video was really insightful. I always want to ensure I have the proper etiquette in a business setting. Much appreciate the share.

I'm the opposite. I look at it as why have it if it is not going to be used.

I know this video is 6 years old. But thank you. My dad passed when I was 11 and couldn't give me all this advice. Again thank you.

Suspenders I actually prefer over a belt because it allows the pants to drape better. just no belt and suspenders at the same time!

Yes
