I went out to the Haight Ashbury in June of 1967, when I was 17. The very first concert I went to at the Fillmore Auditorium upon arriving was to see Eric Burdon & the "New" Animals. I'll never forget the haunting sound of "When I Was Young" with Eric wailing along with that electric violin, echoing thru the musty old Fillmore walls.
+Harry Clay Cool story Harry and great visual. My brother was about your age, going to see Hendrix and Stones in late 60s. He played this stuff all the time in the house and I think I'm more into this music than he is these days. Peace.
Harry Clay so lucky i was born in 1980. But i grew up on Animals. My parents were hippies and i always raided their 45s and lps. And play them on my little record player. Always thought i was born in the wrong decade.
White boys' blues is an excellent description. It evokes a whole era, a way of living and a certain defiance with your lot which seems to have got lost in these times in which we're bombarded with so much dope. .
sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!!!! eric was a bit different and very very good he knew rock i love this cut , its what made the animals a little different but that was a good that i miss it.

I'm not even a drummer but I was jamming out air drumming in my room to this song (don't judge me) and I noticed that at about 2:30 you can hear the squeaking of a foot pedal or something on a drum kit. Kinda cool! anyway keep up with the rock and roll and 0 dislikes on this awesome song
My father took me to North Island back in the late 60s he did not say why, I was a young wipper snapper, anyways, this song I remember on the radio, and we claimed my dad's friend's body and we buried him-when I was young.
lived this generation. this is the white boys blues! iam irish and as i have nothing against anyone, i relate to hard times and the poor, as we are up against a stacked deck with the corrupt govenment and the weak people running it. we are losing are freedoms one by one and the sheeple people go on like there's nothing wrong in this world! take alook around-the whole world is riding on the titanic. its sinking-keep strong. good will always conquer evil. former u.s. marine vietnam veteran
Upon turning the volume all the way up on my computer, I expect to blown out of my chair by one of my favorite songs from 'Purple Haze', not a fucking Galaxy Nexus commercial, before-hand?!
The rooms were so much colder then My father was a soldier then And times were very hard When I was young I smoked my first cigarette at ten And for girls, I had a bad yen And I had quite a ball When I was young When I was young, it was more important Pain more painful Laughter much louder Yeah, when I was young When I was young I met my first love at thirteen She was brown and I was pretty green And I learned quite a lot when I was young When I was young When I was young, IT WAS MORE IMPORTANT Pain more painful Laughter much louder Yeah, when I was young When I was young My faith was so much stronger then I believed in fellow men And I was so much older then When I was young When I was young
Any Animals fans out there -- I'm wanting to get some of the music, but on Amazon it seems like all that is available are various singles compilations. Are all the albums unavailable?
Vastly underrated truly brilliant Eric Burton ahead of his time adored him

Dude I want to be you in my next life
OMG! What a memory to possess!
This is some of Eric's best vocals, and those kick ass drums. I can't listen to the song just once, at least four or five times
This song so far ahead of its time and the words omg
Huge Animals fan here👍💜
I can't remember when i was young lol, next birthday oct 10, i'll be 70, have pacemaker, had cancer, but this song makes it all go away
I'll be 70 21st Oct with plenty health issues and like you this song resonates x stay well
What an introduction to a great song. Eric sang the song as if he'd lived every line! Chris Farlowe is another that comes to mind.
When I was young, I had one of those K-Tell records and this was on it. My first favorite rock song.
Words of heart. Truth requires Respecting... So much pain to hide Life from Life

Just heard this track on new drama series called Black bird
This song simply said, "blow your mind and forget the thought of getting old."
awesome, just bloody awesome!
Andy Summers of the rock band ,The Police was a member of The Animals in 1968.He played electric guitar and electric bass guitar for this band
An emotional and stirring song...however Eric Burdon was all of 26 years of age when it was released :)
Das ewige Leben ;)

Thank you, sir for your service to our beloved country. This song had that sad, yearning to it...didn’t it?
Can’t even spell "our" right. Sad.

the "white boys" blues. cruisen in the hotrods back in the day in san francisco. when I was young.
The rooms were so much colder then
My father was a soldier then
And times were very hard
When I was young
I smoked my first cigarette at ten
And for girls, I had a bad yen
And I had quite a ball
When I was young
When I was young, it was more important
Pain more painful
Laughter much louder
Yeah, when I was young
When I was young
I met my first love at thirteen
She was brown and I was pretty green
And I learned quite a lot when I was young
When I was young
When I was young, IT WAS MORE IMPORTANT
Pain more painful
Laughter much louder
Yeah, when I was young
When I was young
My faith was so much stronger then
I believed in fellow men
And I was so much older then
When I was young
When I was young
groovy
