THE revolver in my opinion! Fantastic stuff indeed. Manurhin is a fantastic manufacturer of guns. The history is fascinating. I shot a few of their old Walther PP stuff in both 32 and 22 cal. way back when I was working as garage guy at a local police station here in Sweden back in the early eighties. Even those were well made guns. Ahh, the memories... Great video as usual, sir!!!!!

I know a guy who owned one of these guns and he put around 40,000+ rounds through it. He also hit another guy to buy one and that friend also put over 40,000 rounds through it. My friend lives in St. Augustine , FLORIDA. The only thing that breaks on this revolver is a piece inside the gun that is the weak point. He had Msnhurrin replace the part all three times free of charge. He installed the replacement part himself. He loved it, I loved to shoot it and ultimately, he sold it to buy other guns cuz he got bored. But, yeah, as long as you don't shoot it over 16,000 rounds, that internal weak point won't fail on you.
@@ulflyng100% a present model. They use cheap mim, aren't fitted, and they changed the internal action to smaller and weaker parts to save a few pennies on production costs

I’m really impressed by the execution of that piece of functional art. The contrasting flat black top strap, firing pin still on the hammer, cylinder that takes “commoner” K-frame speed loaders, and no Hillary-hole. The grips, despite not being of exotic wood pedigrees, really help make the revolver stand out. I also question why US manufacturers don’t copy the grip design or at least offer something similar. S&W could eliminate the internal lock and transfer manufacturing costs to something useful that actually doesn’t hurt the reliability. I haven’t done any custom work to a S&W for a long time but suspect that one could get close to the cost of the MR73 having a US made wheel gun brought up to those standards. That would include the initial cost of the gun. Wouldn’t include the fees and such involved in the importation. Anyway, great video. Hope to hear more.
I personally would not consider a revolver to my own "be all end all" that doesnt come in a 44 magnum chambering and a 5 inch barrel but thats my preference for a "Perfect Packin Pistol" as John Taffin once wrote about. However. The service record, the longevity, durability, and overall quality of the Manurhin makes it a VERY strong contender if not the defacto best 357 magnum ever made.
My friend inherited a Dan Wesson from his dad and in person the bluing is so nice you can see your reflection in it. I can 100% understand what you're saying about the camera not doing it justice.
Beautiful firearm and an excellent review. Thank you. If possible, please put it on a trigger pull gage and even if you don't use them, I would love to see it wearing the Nill grips.
This is the MR73 I have. $4,400+ (price, tax, shipping & insurance) to Bud’s in Feb. 2022, gun arrived in Nov. 2023, then after transfer fees and waiting period I took it home. My first centerfire experience was a Smith K-frame, and I’ve long wanted a “forever” .357 K-frame. That’s exactly what the MR73 was designed to be. I agree it begs to be used. That Trausch grip is great, if not ideal for concealed carry. BTW mine came set a bit light on double action, got a few light primer strikes. But both adjustments on the MR73 are simple to use.
I'm looking to get a 4 inch barrel, double action 357 for daily carry. It would be cool to have one with a mount for flashlight, and blued with a bunch of moon clips.
I will do a comparison with the Mongoose at some point. Stay tuned. And yes I considered the Spohr back around December but decided to not get one as they are a new company. But I am very interested in Spohr and I'm trying to see if I can find someone that owns one so I can just see what its all about, etc... but it is obvious although not 'rare' not that many people own one. I was told someone locally got one recently so I'm hoping I can figure out 'who' and maybe do a video on that. Maybe compare all 3!?!? Thanks for watching!
People freak out a lot over the size of a gun when selecting a carry gun. Back when we didn’t have a lot of choices people carried large revolvers and 1911’s all the time. It’s nice to have a lot of choices now days but I still carry full size guns because that’s my preference. I don’t care if there are smaller options with the same capacity. When you have a quality holster and belt the weight isn’t an issue
I wouldn't even worry about the barrel length. The 4" looks fantastic, and if I could afford one, I get the same 4". The GIGN would carry the 3" version.
Excellent review! THANKS! I also own a MR73 (5 1/4) and a Korth Mongoose. Love both, both have their pro's and con's, but if I could only keep one it WOULD BE the MR73 (it's the "real deal" ultimate combat handgun, bar none). I find that both guns have an amazing double action pull, but with the MR73 I can "catch/stage" the hammer at the very last point before it breaks, with the Korth I usually end up pulling all the way through by accident. The other thing that often doesn't get mentioned about the MR 73 is it's unparalleled balance and natural effortless pointing. It has no rival in this regard (Colt, Smith, Ruger, DW, etc.) IMO. Being you own both as I do, I would be very interested if you find my assessment to mirror your won observations! Thanks again and keep up the good work!
thanks for these observations. I've had a year of experience with the Mongoose and I need more time with the MR73. It's a tough call. Now we also have Spohr... I almost got one in December over the MR73 but because I did not know a ton about Spohr I was hesitant and decided to hold out for a MR73. I'd love to compare this 'new' Spohr to a Mongoose specifically after watching all the vids on them. BUT I got a lot of work to do with this MR73 first hahaha.
💯 agree on the grips. I thought they were ugly AF and was going to replace them with Nil, but then I actually owned and used them and think they are the best revolver grips I’ve ever used - sooo comfortable! Makes 357 feel like 38 special and accuracy is insane
its been a very long time since I carried that Hack! I put away the Ultra Light Carry Compact months ago in favor of the wheelie again. Well I tried L frame and it's "too big" as it moves around quite a bit. It's like this odd dimension. I mean probably could make do with a K frame holster but the L its too big. So just gotta wait for this custom one as he actually has a mold I believe.
I almost got one in December however I wanted to wait on this as they are newer, etc... I have been told someone locally took delivery to one not to long ago and I'm hoping to track him down to see if it would be possible to look it over etc... would like to do a vid on one as yes I do find them very intriguing. I'm curious how they would fair with a Mongoose.
@TheOl1911 not at all. Im happy with it. I think its the best production combat revolver for many reasons. But thats just my opinion.Have a good weekend my friend.
I have the MR73 and a 586 that I highly polished. The 586 or 686 is a great choice, but there’s nothing like shooting a MR73 IMHO. It’s kinda like Corvette vs Ferrari - on paper the differences aren’t that great, but there’s something special that isn’t a spec that translates on paper.
I’m curious if other MR73 owners have the same issue I have with the trigger shoe whereby the edge of the trigger shoe face to the side of the trigger shoe is a very hard 90 degrees that isn’t polished smooth so it can dig in to the finger. At first I thought it was a good feature to avoid having my finger slip in DA but then when shooting 100 rounds one day of 38 & 357 mixed, I ended up with a nasty blister. I shoot 40 different firearms during the course of a year averaging 85 shots per day, so I don’t have girly hands. This is the only firearm to do that in 38 years of shooting.
So after 50 rounds of 158gr FMJ Mags my trig finger pad did get 'raw' so I'm with you. I much prefer a smooth polished trigger. The 2nd Gen Colt Python has a similar 'feel'. Also I noticed the grips drew a little blood in the web of my hand after shooting those 50rds! But hey no biggie. Its a great shooter.
@@TheOl1911 wow - I didn’t have the issue with the grip. Thanks for the reply as that saves me a long warranty wait for nothing. I might have a skillful gunsmith smooth those edges a little bit.
yup. I almost got one back in December. I was researching and going back and forth like mad. I guess I decided to hold off and just wait for a MR73. I'm glad I did. The Spohr definitely is interesting but it's too new. I talked to one owner recently and he of course loves it but he stated he likes his MR73 more. He even told me don't be in a rush to get one. Wait for the 3" to come out. I had been looking at the 284 Carry and as another high end wheelie guy I know stated "It seems like a S&W Perf. Center 686 on steroids..." So I'm kinda on the fence. I thought there was someone locally that got a Spohr but that was incorrect I just found out (he took delivery to a Korth). Aw well. Maybe I can find someone locally that has one (very doubtful) to be able to do a video.
I have a MR73 that I purchased last month. What custom holster company did you go with, as I have been looking around for holsters the last couple of weeks. Great video, as always!
Beautiful revolver! I’d love to have one someday. I just got a new SP101 2.25”, my best revolvers don’t even come close to your new one. My favorite is my S&W mod13 3” 357 or 3” mod 65 lady smith. Also love my mod 360, 649, and 640 my favorite to carry. 2024 is my year of the revolver, carrying one all year, and al I plan to buy. Got python 5”, LCRx 327, and sp101, next maybe Ruger Blackhawk, and hope to get 2.5” python, and mod19 2.5” carry comp. Wouldn’t mind getting a 340m&p.
@@Johnny-jr2lq that’s a beautiful gun! I can see that being on my list for this year! I’d like to have that or a TRR8 I definitely would like to add an 8 shot 357 to the collection.
As I understand it. The comparison should be with the Korth Combat. Both excellent.. And the big difference is that the MR73 wins on durability. I'm very happy with my mr73 in any case
Awesome I love Rossi!!!! hahahahaha I’m kidding brother, I know that made you laugh 😂, that revolver is beautiful and the bluing is amazing! I’ll keep an eye for one for myself. P.S. any trade for that Korth??
Any excellent firearm is a good EDC, I have a Wilson Combat ULC and a Night Hawk Carry plus and a Shadow Hawk Commander , but I am in market for an EDC .357 Mag, and the American ones do not satisfy my standards. I carried a S&W model 64 on the worst streets in Miami and I felt well armed! Your most powerful weapon is your mind!
Have you ever heard of Janz revolvers? They are way too expensive for me..... they're like um think dan wesson revolvers changablility versatility with korth quality some of the spohr revolvers look pretty cool too. I've never held either.
Yea, they are made by Janz-Präzisionstechnik GmbH, which makes like industrial dairy equipment. Great machinists. I think they make fewer than 100 per year. Cabot imports a few into the US.
Best Revolver ever mad unmatched craftsmen ship and reliabilty, these revolvers are built like swiss watches. S&W Ruger, Kimber who? Manurhin's are simply in a differnt class all together and the cost to own one of these says it all.
The MR73s they make today are done by a new company. People have taken them down and compared the old ones to the new ones. No comparison whatsoever. The new one's are straight cheap junk in the internals, and they (the new company) knows that most gunsoomers and collectors will never check, nor have the ability to compare new vs old production themselves. They're making a pretty penny by riding name of a long dead company. So yes, the original MR73s made with superior material, with superior fitment, and with superior internal action was the battle proven animal of a revolver. But the modern MR73 is inferior to a Korth, and anyone willing to do the slightest research can come to this conclusion. It's not hearsay. The new MR73s are built differently action wise.
@@paddypibblet846 Chapuis has been manufacturing the MR 73 since 1998. They bought Manurhin's machines and hired their employees. Nowadays, machine tools are much more precise than those from the 1970s. The steel supplier is the same, Aubert & Duval, a French company highly renowned for its specialty steels. So your story about modern manufacturing being of poor quality is just Internet trolling.
@@alexandrelarsac9115 Well that guy in the forums definitely went above and beyond reconstructing a modern but cheaper looking MR73 then. For one man, this troll would take thousands of man hours building a new revolver from scratch, that looks perfectly like an MR73 on the outside, but way worse on the inside, just to troll a forum with 100 members. Sorry, I'm inclined to believe what I see happening in other guns as well. The fact is manufacturers are skipping out on quality control. Yes it's true sometimes the firearms get better with age, such as the Pythons being built better, but that's because the originals were finicky to begin with. They (Colt) redesigned them to be stronger. The MR73 on the other hand was already a tank, it was redesigned for mass production. It lost some of it's hand fitting and heavier duty internals in reproduction. I suggest you go look up the thread it's rather known and shared through many revolver circles.
This is a very-high quality, combat-proven, very durable .357 magnum revolver. It is perhaps the strongest .357 magnum revolver ever made, but it's also among the most pricey. So, I'm not exactly sure why anyone would wanna purchase one of these expensive wheelguns unless he's a gun aficionado with thousands of dollars to spare and/or he enjoys firing hundreds of .357 magnum rounds everyday. As wonderfully engineered as the Manurhin is, it too has its own flaws, like the serrated trigger face, which isn't great for speed shooting. The other flaw is there's no "chamfer" whatsoever on the charge holes of Manurhin's cylinder. My S&W model 60 .357 revolver has chamfered charge holes, and it's less than one-fourth the cost of a new Manurhin MR73.
To be honest everything you said about this revolver. Is exactly how I feel about my Python and 586. I mean I wouldn’t mind having a MR 73 in my collection or a Korth. But I’m not gonna pay 4 to 5 thousand dollars for a foreign revolver. A lot of hype because it’s not common.
It does but it wiggles around in my L frame holsters a little. I guess just depends. The holster I have on order is more for carry and should be to the exact dimensions. We shall see if it works out.
hehehe well Speaking of Spohr someone locally told me they know of someone that owns the 284. I am trying to track this owner down to see if it would be possible to test his out and do a vid on it. I am very curious about Spohr and almost got the 562 Black instead of the MR73 (when I could not find one) but decided to hold off as it's a new company and I would be more interested in their 3" model for possible carry. Stay tuned....
This wouldn’t surprise me, as Spohr is made by people who started out customizing and improving Smith and Wesson revolvers. Like Performance Center on steroids. But I’ve seen how Manhurin are made, and the parts themselves seem more solid and well machined, even if the finish and refining may be better on the Spohr.
the mr73 is rated at a tighter grouping than the korth. AND it has a longer durability rating. I wouldn't carry it. They're used as sniper DMR revolvers and are highly crafted and valuable. like using an antique museum knife made by a famous artisan worth 10 million as your cooking knife... even worse when you think about how we all have multiple working man knives anyways. save the mr73 for competition shooting and medium range target is my opinion
Oh my. I really like the high end guns…BUT, the $300 dollar Brazilian beauty (specifically the 6 shot ,3”Rossi,also marked Taurus in some of the smaller print on the other side of the revolver )my buddy just got is so well made and practical…It’s made buying even something like a Kimber K6s less attractive. This gun might be worth more one day & good for a collection ect. But carry. Nahh. Not very realistic for the average person. Enjoy though..go man go.
I think its a beautiful gun and i know the effort that went into making it. However, now there are 8 round .357 mags on the market. This one has the firing pin attached to the hammer meaning your really only have 5 rounds when you are talking conceal carry.. because of that i cant help but feel how antiquated this has become. Great collector item though!
Has to be one of the most utilitarian looking revolvers on the market. Sure, the blueing is lovely, But there is no style or beauty in it's form. My Taurus 66 looks cooler. Anyway, sure it is lovely to shoot and that's really what matters the most.
We can, and fairly easily. Most major gunshops try to keep a few on stock, either brand new Chapuis or sometimes ex-duty Manurhin built. And on average for better prices than what I've heard is the norm in the US.
PS.THAT GAT IS PLUM DARN KEELER!PSS.The faraday phone bag commercial being sold by the guy with the outdoorsy channel..No useless..BUT,the people “tracking &watching”you…They have bigger fish to fry..does it make illegal /unconstitutional invasion of privacy ok. Hell No! I personally am not of much interest to anyone who may listen &/or look at me. F it.
Your first pronouciation of Manurhin in the intro is what you should stick for. Just stay away from the plebeian "man-urine" one, any person with basic knowledge of french would feel the urge to correct you. And thanks for your nice video review !
Dumb,,, this MR73 retails for around $3700 ... RIP OFF ! I can buy 3 brand new Ruger Redhawk 357 Mag with an 8-shot cylinder and still have change left over. And do the same thing on the range or anywhere else but with 2 more bullets loaded. And a Ruger Redhawk is built tough, easy to disassemble and clean, totally. So if you get sand inside your delicate Euro Revolver, you're screwed.
@@alberto123iq Nothing delicate about the Ruger RedHawk either, but I can easily dissemble a Ruger Redhawk/ Ruger Security Six or Ruger BlackHawk , clean the parts in gasoline, light coat of oil and re-assemble it, in the field if necessary. If you drop your MR73 in the mud or sand, well, good luck.

So just gotta wait for this custom one as he actually has a mold I believe.
Take a look at Spohr revolvers. Held them at shot show. Really nice.
@@TheOl1911 I honestly feel like they fall between the Korth and Manhurin.
Smith 686 is my be all end all 😂. ( i dont have the money for an mr73)
Yo nothing wrong with a nice smith 686 at all!!!!!
Beautiful finish reminds me of the black satin finish is on a 2 1/4 inch FBI issued smith and Wesson used by FBI agents
I'll bet there are no MIM parts in the Manurhin.
K-frame leather holsters for 4" works PERFECT.
@@Kevinsylvainmestre Merci beaucoup!
You can always paint the front sight a high vis orange.
Congrats on your new revolver..the MR73 is sweet indeed..still trying to find another grip for mine..the one on it is a bit skinny for me
I have a Nill grip. That's good and beautifull
Nice revolver. Have you seen the new German Spohr revolvers? They look amazing quality.
Have you seen S&W 627 V comp performance center revolver. That’s the one I have my eye on next to add to my collection.
@@Johnny-jr2lq that’s a beautiful gun! I can see that being on my list for this year! I’d like to have that or a TRR8 I definitely would like to add an 8 shot 357 to the collection.
You had it right the first time with the Khord.
What's the weight of the double action pull, please? Beautiful revolver!
Even though it has a rear sight that seems to be begging to be knocked off, it is still my dream gun
You got any old holsters for a smith 686 plus 4 in I’m broke and in need of a holster that is one Beautiful. Gun
Manurhin. Accept no substitutes.
Hey, take to the range, if you please!!
Which speed loader did you buy? it seems colt and ruger are the only options for the COMP III
Id like to try one out. But it would get carried in the sticks
3000 $, that's the prize for perfection. Frenchies ares kings of luxuary industries. Dassault, Bugatti, new Brough Superior...
Thanks for the review
Best Revolver ever mad unmatched craftsmen ship and reliabilty, these revolvers are built like swiss watches. S&W Ruger, Kimber who? Manurhin's are simply in a differnt class all together and the cost to own one of these says it all.
That pistol is beautiful
What's up with the red dot below the cylinder release?
I've forgotten, what was the retail price?
J’ai le même revolver et j’en suis extrêmement satisfait 👍🏻 vive le savoir faire français 🇫🇷
The MR73 is battle tested and proven. The Korth is just an expensive boutique gun.
The 125 gr Barnes Tac-XPD loads. Are they buffalo bore anmo❓
It’s actually made by Barnes
@@TheOl1911 Thank you, they spit 🔥 balls for sure 🤝
I’m shocked at the plain black front sight
Man Urine trouble now! 😂
Vive La France!
For the same reason some people pay $4,000+ for a custom made 1911, which is a platform which has its own inherent flaws.
For that sort of money it really should come with better sights..
Rear sight is fine but it should have a tritium or fiber optic front sight
If u shot dibble action trigger should be smooth
I just wished revolvers weren't expensive.
I have one of these as my wallpaper... that is all, sadly.
I though a Smith and Wesson model 27-2 or Smith and Wesson Model 19-2 was the end all of wheelies.
The Maunurhin MR-73 is based on the S&W M19 but more durable and stronger.
I'd EDC it.
$4,000 seems ridiculous for a wheel gun for me. I don't have that kind of money for a fun gun. I'm jealous.
I guess I'll just keep my Charter Arms.😢. 😂
an L frame holster should fit that.
It does but it wiggles around in my L frame holsters a little. I guess just depends. The holster I have on order is more for carry and should be to the exact dimensions. We shall see if it works out.
Next up:The La Matt
Sphor or however you spell it is better than the manurhin but it’s a beautiful wheel gun sir like a Swiss clock
hehehe well Speaking of Spohr someone locally told me they know of someone that owns the 284.
@@TheOl1911 that would be so awesome I’m curious to hear your thoughts on it
This wouldn’t surprise me, as Spohr is made by people who started out customizing and improving Smith and Wesson revolvers. Like Performance Center on steroids. But I’ve seen how Manhurin are made, and the parts themselves seem more solid and well machined, even if the finish and refining may be better on the Spohr.
Looks like more of an L frame to me or maybe it's like right in the middle of a k and L
the mr73 is rated at a tighter grouping than the korth.
Man Urine?
People pay more for stupid wedding rings and wear them out all the time👍
It's pronounced Man Urine and you said duty!
& yes..high end gun..high end leather .duh.
Nice, but the issues they’ve been having makes me uneasy to go and risk it buying one.
The Maunurhin MR-73 has got a bouncing hammer ! French police and gendarmerie never had any issue of this type.
Has to be one of the most utilitarian looking revolvers on the market. Sure, the blueing is lovely, But there is no style or beauty in it's form. My Taurus 66 looks cooler. Anyway, sure it is lovely to shoot and that's really what matters the most.
What a shame the French people probably cannot own one?
We can, and fairly easily. Most major gunshops try to keep a few on stock, either brand new Chapuis or sometimes ex-duty Manurhin built. And on average for better prices than what I've heard is the norm in the US.
The hard part in most european countries is the permit
So if you get sand inside your delicate Euro Revolver, you're screwed.
nothing delicate about the MR73
@@alberto123iq
Nothing delicate about the Ruger RedHawk either, but I can easily dissemble a Ruger Redhawk/ Ruger Security Six or Ruger BlackHawk , clean the parts in gasoline, light coat of oil and re-assemble it, in the field if necessary.
If you drop your MR73 in the mud or sand, well, good luck.
