I got confused when I reached this point, but this is what I understand that happened: two possibilities: 1. The pilot was in a simulation that wasn't meant to continue after you destroyed the last boss, and you were sent back to the real world, where the invasion had place and you weren't there when happened. That explains why appeared more powerful enemy units that the ones you previously fought 2. The pilot was sent back in time, but after the invasion took place, you weren't there to stop them, and all the enemie units won and subjugated all the humanity, and they increased the power of their units

I personally like to think it was a "simulation" or rather a "Hey, you know what? If you go fowards in the future then nobody gets hurt right? They'll think you're dead and You have all your weapons correct? I think you'll manage, if you get back here alive then I'll give up and let you trough to see the boss Kay? Cya!"
@@AlexDimLight Yeah after replaying the game I got the same feeling as you. I guess erasure was kind of testing if the pilot is good enough or not, since if they fail then all goes to shit again
The feeling I got is that Erasure sent the pilot back to the past but slightly forward into the future. That way, the pilot wasn't there to defend against the invasion in time, and all was destroyed.
I like how the music slows down as you realize everything's destroyed, then rises up like a feeling of vengeance.
I remember this comment every time I play that section lol
