Probably because as a society we've acknowledged that the way we treat or depict people with mental differences has changed over the past 10 odd years. In the same way I know I'm probably not using the preferred English / American term when I write 'mental differences' but I'm working with the vocabulary I currently have as a non-native English speaker. As progressive as the M.E. trilogy was or was trying to be at the time, it is a product of it's time. The reviewer would do well to remember this.
The overlord dlc was a real unique piece of material added to mass effect with very interesting missions and sceneries. From the entry of the level I was amused up until the end but a remaster for a dlc unheard of might as well remaster the whole god damn game which is ridiculous since the graphics are superb especially at higher settings.
I understand remasters will dabble close to spoiler territory but this revealed way too many important plot points for sake of examples, do not watch if this will be your first playthrough
This review act like these games aren’t a 9-13yrs old. The morality system, while limited, was revolutionary for its time, especially for when ME1 came out. The trilogy story still holds up as one of the best in the entire gaming history. And this is not a remake. This is a faithful remaster. To try and review it based on standards a decade removed, does the series a disservice. I think I’ve actually enjoyed playing it again more than the first time I played it. Whole trilogy 11/10
Well said, and better than the whole winey review about silly political standing shit. Please take your a** to your blue check Twitter account and move onto whatever you clearly really want to do with your life, this is not it. (Talking to the reviewer if that was not clear)
Respectfully disagree. His main goal is to let folks, including those who have never played it before, know whether it is an enjoyable game today and worth $60, given evolution of game design, not pay homage to whether it was ground breaking when it came out. (And that happens to be exactly what I was looking for). $60 is a lot of money to pay for 3 games that you hardly play because they’ve not aged well. The fact that they “were” good when they came out has zero impact on whether they are fun now. Now, if this was more a historical overview of the impact of the series, then I’d agree with your points. But he makes it clear it is not.
Yeah, I agree. I don't usually thumb videos down, but I'll admit I did this time mostly because of him going out of his way to get offended over certain things that no normal person would rationally get offended over.
@@ShiningEyeBrigade $60 for 100-150 hrs of quality game play, is money well spent. And the games have aged well. Many of the negative points he has for the trilogy come solely down to the hardware limitations of the time. The story is still one of the best, solid in a way that many of the AAA games of today fall short of, and the gameplay while limited in some ways is still enjoyable. It is still a 10/10 trilogy if people aren’t stupid enough to judge it by today’s standards. We don’t just Super Mario by today’s Standards, or legend of Zelda. or resident evil, GTA3, Final Fantasy 7, etc. So don’t judge Mass Effect 1-3

Shockingly unprofessional. 2. You want a "moral gray area/third way" morality system in a trilogy where your decisions already create branches that span across all three games? Do you understand how impossibly hard it was just to do it like THIS? 3. "Expecially" is something a 5 year-old says, which makes sense given that 80% of this review is whiny crybaby bullshit.
I highly recommend the Mass Effect books. Especially the first three written by Drew Karpyshyn. The first book is about what happens before the first game. The second book is about what happens between the first and second game. The third book is about what happens between the second and third game. The books aren't huge volumes and incredibly well written. (page count: first book-323 , second book-342 and third book-356)

@@Trace153 Sure, but how about this... If a review is gonna be done solely as an opinion piece about the remaster, then everything needs to be pointed out, regardless of whether much of it will be either complimented or criticized within reasonable critique based on what was experienced by the reviewer. It's actually pathetic.
You don't have to pick a side in order to get the best outcome. It's possible to play as a paragade and get all dialogue options, you just have to complete every main and side mission that's given to you and scan every planet in every system for hidden side quests. It is a long comment but as a gamer for the past 20 years i have my views so bear with me. It seems the reviewer only played mass effect 1 and rushed to finish the triology without actually playing the game or even never completed the triology. Gamespot should never let such people to review the games. We all know that the graphics are better, what we wanted to know is about the expirence that the reviewer felt when playing the Trilogy. I still remember the old mass effect 3 review by gamespot "the Game engages your mind and moves your heart". That was a review by a passionate reviewer. But this review seems that the reviewer was forced to play the triology and he gave up halfway(or even earlier). I have always found Gamespot reviews more in depth and to my liking/satisfaction compared to IGN(which gives 8/10 to all games). But I am not satisfied with this review, i want Gamespot to let another reviewer play the triology, and post the video again. All those who agree like this comment to make sure it remains on top and Gamespot notices it and do something about it.
You know, I think there are things in this trilogy that did not age well, very few of them were covered in this review XD. The lack of markers for objectives in ME1 was annoying, the fact that the completion requirements for certain side quests weren’t totally clear is another problem. I’m surprised he didn’t point out that the quality of ME1’s side quests do not hold up to modern standards. Too often they take you to areas that look exactly the same or planets that are just a colored reskin. These are nitpicks of course, but if he was going to complain about the game, he should at least talk about the mechanics, rather than the story, since this is a remaster not a remake. I’m not even sure a rating system is fair here. Since you are judging an old game by modern standards.
I played mass effect 2,3 back in the day but never got around to playing project overlord so this was my first time and holy shit it was one of the best moments in the series for me. When David is revealed the brutality is what connected me to the moment. What would you want to change about that?

seems like to me this is one giant bash of a very good game, People seem to forget this is a remaster. It is not a remake, that is why story content is the same and was not changed. Nor should it be changed in a remaster. You must remember the time period these games came out in and not compare it to a modern game. I personally loved the way mass effect handled its content. I will agree they could have delayed the dlc starting points but I think its fine the way it is. I am glad they stuck with a remaster and did not change too much in the original games, I feel like if they did it would just have fubared the game up.
The only issue i have seen is that on series X and PS5 some effects only update at 30 fps yet the game runs at 60 . Things like floor reflections can look janky as a result but it should be something they can patch as it's not on PC. To be honest so many areas don't have that in any noticeable way anyway. I noticed it mainly on the citadel.
Why did the reviewer re-review the games' paragon/renegade systems? These have already been reviewed in the past and should be referenced as such. The reviewer should focus on what the remaster does differently or improves on / does worse than the games on which the remaster is based.
i bought this game because its one of the few games ive never heard anything bad about. so far ive been playing it since launch and holy hell is this game amazing. just started 3 and will be replaying 1 and 2 once i finish and chose different decisions this time around
if you want to fully enjoy this game, focus on all side quest and grinding planets before starting missions with paragon choices. if you having trouble get into this game, try to get past the first hours on the citadel when you get your own ship.

Surprised by the fact nobody mentioned the glaring bugs like the audio not working or dialogue skipping without reason the wrong audio playing in the wrong part or the game causing your console to shut off or just no audio at all
If you can't sit through a cut-scene then Mass Effect isn't for you. The game is built around cinematic storytelling. It's basically a playable sci-fi TV series. The combat is fun but it's secondary.

I also wanted was a unified character creator, but the lack of understanding from the reviewer is strange. The lack of a scar on Shepherd in 2 comes from Cerberus remaking the commander and it makes sense that the scars would not be included in the Lazarus project. I would have kept my scars but I understand why they are not included.
Yeah. He says it makes no sense, but it makes PERFECT sense. Shepard was rebuilt. The skin is new. Everything is new. Why would they include Shepard's old scars? Also like.. Shep gets new scars, which play into the paragon/renegade system.
They did mess up on some little things in 2. When you do the main mission for liara shadow broker. You make Udina retire and get that message that he did after you use the shadow broker's assists. But it doesn't carry over to three. Also, you auto lose all scares from 2 to 3 on top.
It's a re-master. Not a re-write. If you're having to learn about mental illness and morality through a space RPG, you're doing it wrong.

It was pretty in depth and the remaster isn't only for you, there are new people who are going to be playing, he described how it's outdated and some of the choices don't make sense

@@vixiestarfire be barely even talked about the gameplay, probably just watched someone else play it.
yeah, reviewer is a noob.
Ever watch a review and get the feeling the reviewer went into it desperately wanting to find any little thing to complain about?
Dude, he gave it an 8. Chill.
It's literally his job to point out both positives and negatives
Why would you expect the entire story of the Overlord DLC to be completely changed in a remaster?
Because, it hurts his fe fe's
Probably because as a society we've acknowledged that the way we treat or depict people with mental differences has changed over the past 10 odd years. In the same way I know I'm probably not using the preferred English / American term when I write 'mental differences' but I'm working with the vocabulary I currently have as a non-native English speaker.
As progressive as the M.E. trilogy was or was trying to be at the time, it is a product of it's time. The reviewer would do well to remember this.
Because he’s a soft Lib. Probably made sure he told his female squad mates that he respects women too lol
@Shin Shaman you're allowed your opinion, not matter how baseless and stupid it is.
I mean the game is 14 years old
thanks!!
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR TYPING THIS COMMENT!!! As SOON AS I PRESSED ON THE VID I SEEN IT

Thanks man, just started playing it for the first time ever. Would have been very pissed off if it was spoiled.
@@ShiningEyeBrigade I’m just going to buy it, because I can and I want to relive this experience.

I know I read somewhere about the ME1 sky color change and it feels like an almost word-for-word repeat of that section. A few other parts of the video felt the same way.

@@Trace153 Sure, but how about this...
If a review is gonna be done solely as an opinion piece about the remaster, then everything needs to be pointed out, regardless of whether much of it will be either complimented or criticized within reasonable critique based on what was experienced by the reviewer. Otherwise, it's not a proper review. My issue isn't even about the social standing aspect, it's with people who think merely mentioning this AND giving a negative opinion about certain things that can arguably, within reason, be seen as a negative thing within the product being reviewed as a fucking blasphemous insult to fans or something. It's actually pathetic.
You don't have to pick a side in order to get the best outcome. It's possible to play as a paragade and get all dialogue options, you just have to complete every main and side mission that's given to you and scan every planet in every system for hidden side quests.
Also, the reason your scar has gone is due to the rebuild process. You got spaced, burned up during atmosphere entry and hit the ground. Jacob mentions that you were nothing but "meat and tubes."

Nor should it be changed in a remaster. You must remember the time period these games came out in and not compare it to a modern game. I personally loved the way mass effect handled its content. I will agree they could have delayed the dlc starting points but I think its fine the way it is. I think it’s great looks, feels everything and I love playing this amazing story again much love for this series and the characters in it.

Bringing up non-issues about "problematic" (in his opinion) decisions is not related to the remaster
@@themajesticspider-man6116 clearly you missed the bit where the guy is complaining about hyper-specific shit nobody else gives a fuck about.
@@ThatEnglishGent I wouldn’t say that no one doesn’t care about those things. However it’s ridiculous to expect the plot to be different in a remaster.
Can't believe he showed Talis Picture. I was waiting to experience that myself.
Does the reviewer understand that there are first time players of Mass Effect watching this review??
Unbelievable.
Surprised by the fact nobody mentioned the glaring bugs like the audio not working or dialogue skipping without reason the wrong audio playing in the wrong part or the game causing your console to shut off or just no audio at all
I tryed a mass effect game and shut if off because I couldn't skip cutscenes. Does this fix that?
If you can't sit through a cut-scene then Mass Effect isn't for you. The game is built around cinematic storytelling. It's basically a playable sci-fi TV series. The combat is fun but it's secondary.
Getting ready to play it for the first time
Me Too! Did you start off with game one..?
Is it me or did he give multiple negatives, few positives, spoiled the identity of the shadow broker(for those who haven't played) then casually gave it an 8! I could just see this guys review for star wars the empire strikes back.
A long string of negatives followed by " you'll never guess who Luke's father is guys"! And, "I can't trust a movie where a guy loses a hand then he has it again in the next movie".🤣🤣🤣
Hey I don’t suppose there was any reintroduced content cut from the original in this version?
Perfectly done.
..really confused by your bemoaning of the lack of changes.
It is a work of art, it's preservation should be commended.
I'm not understanding why ME3's multiplayer wasnt redone? I spent nearly 300 hours playing that!
It's coming
As someone who never played the multiplayer, I wasn't disappointed, but I hear they might put it back in. If so it might be fun to try it.
I kinda miss it to. Mainly cause of all the neat classes to play as.
I gorget what it was called but the guy with the two biotic whips was awsome
Currently playing it for the first time and im blown away honestly. I'm on me2 and it might be one of the 5 beat games I've played.
They did mess up on some little things in 2. When you do the main mission for liara shadow broker. You make Udina retire and get that message that he did after you use the shadow broker's assists. But it doesn't carry over to three. Also, you auto lose all scares from 2 to 3 on top.
Auto scares??
