Barkha ji: I was in class 7th when 1971 war broke out. We were at shorkot base, as my father was posted there. The base was under repeated attack by indian planes those days. We used to go inside trench dug out, for shelter, in our home lawn when air raid sirens blew. I still have vivid memories that in one of such raids, during initial days of war, we were in the trench when slogans erupted as one indian aircraft, SU -7, was brought down by anti aircraft artillery fire, people saw it being shot down. And I remember that when my father came home the following day from the base, he said one aircraft had been shot down and it fell within the base boundaries. According to him, the pilot did not survive, only his wrist watch and his pilot helmet with "UNCLE" inscribed on it was recovered. I understand the agony through which the widow of the pilot underwent. Much later, after advent of internet I came to know that the pilot shot down that day was Flt. Lt. Tambay. But as far as I know, and the agonizing fact was that the Flt Lt Tambay did not survive the crash.
What an interview Barkha 👌 One of the best 44 minutes I have spent watching something in my life. Thanks for making it happen. Couldn’t help myself from welling up and admiring Mrs Tambay 👍👍
Maam Damyanti Tambe has the kind face and beatific smile that all of us have seen as students. We loved her and were in awe of her. She was iconic on campus dealing with sportspersons, including wrestlers 🙂!! Thank you for the lovely conversation.
This reminds me of an old story, every day exactly at 8 pm, a man used to rush to the hospital to feed his wife, once he was with the dentist and he was getting late, he told his doctor if he could hurry and the dentist did the best he could to wrap it and apologized for the delay and he felt his wife must be really nice person cos of which he can't wait to go and meet her. He enquired about his wife as to how lovely she is and then he told the dentist, she has Alzheimer's and she doesn't even remember him, so the shocked dentist then asked, why the hurry and he responded, I remember her! Unconditional love is rare but it does exist..if you don't even get that love, try to be that person who is the provider of it Damayanti is a wonderful soul & her experiences enriching! God bless her & give her the endurance that makes life worthwhile. I always say and believe that, if you are a good person organically, you always attract ppl like you..her father-in-law is one such person, cheers & god bless!! ❤️
Just imagine the plight of our Indian army family member & what a slap on previous govt policy, Mrs.Tambe rightly said it as "International Failure".We must be proud of @narendramodi ji, the way he handled #abhinandanvarthaman &forced Pakistan govt to handover with full dignity.
Salute to your Unconditional Love and Valour during challenging period of life. You are a real Shero Damayanti of Epics ! History repeated. You are an Inspiration to we the peer group (elderly)people. Great thanks.
One of the best interviews I have ever seen, feeling totally overwhelmed at the dedication, dogged determination, love, sincerity and downright simplicity of this great lady. It's a life lesson in morality, decency, honesty and devotion. I wish the authorities In Pakistan or even the NGO's come forward to resolve all such long overdue issues. I always think the Indian women are the reason behind India's remarkable and phenomenal progress. God bless this great lady.
Barkha this is the most fantastic podcast from any Indian journalist ever because each of your episodes are so very informative and good, Smita saffron chaatu Prakash should learn something from you because her podcasts are always doing boot licking of BJP and its affiliates, great work barkha 👍👌👏🙏❤️💐😘🇮🇳

A 44-minutes interview compared to 3-hrs Bollywood movie.... job very well done 👏
And the real heroine and role model is here.
A big salute to Damyantiji. This is what true love and caring is about which is sadly missing in today's times

she is from a generation where true love, commitment and companionship was a thing. Unlike today where a delay in saying hello leads to breakups
