I'm originally from the Finger Lakes region of NY. Most of my fishing was trolling for trout and salmon. Until you try trolling, you don't know what you're missing. Look out Skipjacks, here I come.

I live in central Indiana and my local bait shop sells skipjack frozen in the package. It’s like 17$ for 2 mediums. I don’t know if it’s worth it to use em over bluegill or sunfish which I can catch regularly, y’all have any idea?

13:30 Justin says people don’t like these bait catching videos near as much as cat fishing. Especially trolling instead of casting for skipjack. So imma need the rest of y’all subs and others who watch to go ahead and suck it up and watch these videos anyway, because I love all his videos, especially learning all different kinds of ways to catch skipjack and other bait because you can’t catch Dinks or Trophy catfish without fresh quality bait! And a bait catching video for you picky people, is also better than no video so quit being like my baby momma, “super picky” please!

When you catch skipjack, do you freeze them, or just refrigerate them till the next day? I ordered some skipjack that was frozen, from Ayers Bros. It was still frozen fine when it got here, so it didn't thaw. But, when I went to use it, and it was almost thawed, it was even more mushy than bait store frozen shad. It also looked way more blue, on top than the ones you catch. I vacuum seal and freeze fresh caught shad all the time, and it isn't mushy, unless I try to refreeze it, and use it again.

Good video, good info, but could you give some ideas as to where to locate skipjack, what to look for etc. In a prior video you pointed out they were concentrated below dams and that paid off, but since I have to drive a minimum of 2 hours to a river that holds them any info helps. Thanks for the help.

That reminds me of the worst behavior I have ever seen while fishing. We were trolling on a lake in North Texas when a boat came up behind us. One of the jerks in the boat behind us tried to catch our lures with a net. He got one and then sped off cutting the rest of our lines with his prop. I still shake my head every time I remember that.

Good video for those who may want to come fish the Tennessee river that are not familiar with the area and how to catch skipjack. The more bait caught in the least time involved could make a trip for someone with just a few days or a week to fish.

ever throw a cast net for bait? if i can i try to find a bluegill bed and throw on them. but like you said trolling dont make good video content niether would my bush hooks but they are effective

I like the trolling videos. Very productive. Of course if it weren't, it wouldn't have been posted. The scenery in the evening sun is beautiful. Now those reels make a sound that reminds me of a coffee grinder but if they work, that is what counts. Great entertainment, good tutorial and some time on the water with my bud,,,,Justin.
