Mr Maws honestly, if you have an Apple Music, or Spotify, then I recommend scouring the more old-school country, particularly from the OG God, Hank Williams, circa the late 40s - 1953 (when he died at 29), up through the 60s and 70s... imo mainstream country really starts to suffer in quality once you get into the 80s and 90s, though that’s not to say that there aren’t phenomenal acts from every era, just that I think the best country music was made between Hank Williams start and the late 70s. As far as more recent decades, from the late 80s to today, I’m of the opinion that, aside from a handful of commercial artists/albums, the best country music is underground/indie, or alt-country as its often called, which I also recommend you digging into, if you’re interested. Country is one of those genres where I personally think 90% of what is produced really is just crap, but if you know where to look, there’s something for everyone.. Oh wait, I’m full of it, that’s basically all genres of music, but country is one where I think most people don’t even know where to begin, unlike other genres where there’s more well known alt/indie or old school artists people use as starting points. At least I think that’s right, idk that’s my experience, I’m probably full of shit.. point being, there’s great country music out there, just gotta know where/when to look. ✌️
