I’ve watched him grow up by going to delfest since it started. Billy has taken a very difficult path and succeeded and his passion for roots has given him a deep and wide influence and song selections. He blew me away on Billy Kruetzmans b day bash last year in Hawaii and I think is one of the best live acts in music today. He’s young and this accomplished already which makes for lots of joy for all of us with great things to come. He’s a class act so much so I sent my daughter to see him in Carey NC last night while I streamed.
Damnit man that was cool. I love how Billy shares the stage with the rest of the band. Everyone up there is an amazing artist. And Billy let's us see them too. 😎
Billy is doing for Bluegrass and homegrown music genres that SRV did for the Blues and The Texas music scene. Oh hey, they share the same birthday as well! Yes folks Billy is a wunderkind!🎶
DAMN SAM! Very few can follow Doc, but Billy does him proud. He couldn't pick a better idol to emulate. I'm a finger picker and I'm pretty good, but my hat is off to anyone who can flat pick..it's a whole other discipline. I just love Billy.
I hope this man stays true to the music for the next sixty years or so and doesn"t go off the rails like a lot of people who attain meteoric fame early in their life. The bluegrass mantle is on his shoulders.
Billy has introduced them over and over in my scant experience: Billy Failing on Banjo and vocals; Jarrod Walker on Mandolin and vocals; and, Royal Masat on standup Bass fiddle and vocals! Great team! Their tightness shows!
Billys solo on this is about as complex as it can get. The amount of time it takes to more or less improv a solo like that is no joke people. Billy IS the best guitar player on earth right now if we are looking at speed and technical ability. My dads like hes not as good as slash, im like dad billy could eat slash for lunch even in slashes prime 😂. Hard to compare the two anyway lol, im ramblin. Is your favorite guitar player youre favorite because of his skill or his music?
Billy's amplified sound has improved. In earlier videos there was a lot of piezo quack, but I didn't hear it in this one. I wonder if he was using just the mag pickup, or a mic too, and/or some piezo. Anyone know?
I think you might be misunderstanding. These days, to ‘crush’ something just means to do a great job of it. Which Billy certainly did, all respect to Doc. A great song by Doc and a great cover by Billy!
I choose to think of it like, he crushes the expectations of how he'll do. Doc was such a touring talent, few covers do him justice, so our expectations are tempered, but he crushed it.
That was a hellva mandolin break too.
This kid is a national treasure.
International
Intergalactic
This is the future of Bluegrass. beautiful homage to tradition plus new forms. Go Billy
You are witnessing Greatness. BMFS 🐐 LEGEND
Great performance nearly ruined by ridiculous lighting.
I literally can’t get enough of listening to his flat picking during his solos. The guy is insanely accurate.
Billy is one in a million, but Doc Watson was one in a billion. I really respect Billy for honoring Doc. Thank you Billy 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Doc kinda started this thing and is, thus, at the head of the list!
Me too! Billy and I have the same idol in Doc Watson. What a wonderful man to emulate in every way
Perfectly said! 👍
Yes.
Yeah, but Billy something.
The Devil Went Down to Georgia...to avoid running into Billy. Damn truth.
Thank you, Billy Strings, for being the One to bring the tradition to the masses!

They are having so much fun, and spreading joy everywhere.
You guys are riding the train of great music! Picking up thousands of great fans on the way. Please stay on course!
Nothing else sounds better than Bluegrass!. Makes you wanna get that 71 Camaro SS.
You don't hear flat-picking like that very often. Nice to see really great bluegrass music being made these days.
No Sir and I’m glad to see / hear it too 👍🏻👏🏻💙🎶🎶🎶
Also check out Molly Tuttle. Her flat picking is amazing as well!
Billy and Co. are inspiring a whole new generation of kids to practice for thousands of hours lol
He's like a mix of Watson, rice, and garcia
I've listened to a lot great flat pickers, it's just Billy sound better
That was smokin'!!! 😃
One of the tightest bluegrass sounds ever!
Very sweet version of a classic!~!!! Thank you, Billy.
The bass player was locked 🔒 in which just gave all the soloists a great canvas to paint the picture 🙏🙏🙏
Wonderful playing by extremely talented musicians. Billy really knows how to pick ‘em🤩
Damnit man that was cool. I love how Billy shares the stage with the rest of the band. Everyone up there is an amazing artist. And Billy let's us see them too. 😎
I believe Jerry (Garcia) is smiling from above. ✌️
Wishing he had anywhere near the talent as Billy and the boys
Clarence White is smiling brighter😊
Incredibly lucky to have been there
Really clean. As always.
Just saw Billy last week in Raleigh NC. What an experience to witness his abilities and enjoy his spirit 🎶🥳💯
Really well done!

An Incredible musician!
Doc would be thrilled!!!!🍻🍻🍻🍻
This Band kicks ass.....All are very talented....Great Song!!
I had this on a 78 by Roy Acuff from about 1940
Billy brings it up to date
So much talent on one stage!
Doc would certainly approve of this version.
Playing that fast and clean with no mistakes is just crazy.
Billy is doing for Bluegrass and homegrown music genres that SRV did for the Blues and The Texas music scene. Oh hey, they share the same birthday as well!
Yes folks Billy is a wunderkind!🎶
The mando solo was by far the best part of this video
Coming from a mandolin player?
@@neilhudson6194 nah coming from a tony rice fan
@@bcp5296d Yep---I'm a Tony Rice fan too but I sure wouldn't knock this guy

Awesome pickin'! Great jammin' 🤘 cool video. 6:33 p.m. 6-22-22✌️🎼🎶
Excellent! For an acoustic sound those guys have some serious pedalboards 🙂
Doc is smiling. Well done.
Looking down with the eyes of love that he always had, spiritual eyes.
Doesn't get better than that.
Billy keeps bluegrass alive and adds extra spice… a legend
this is real music and all of them can really play the music. ❤🎉
All hail new grass. Billy knows his shit and he's bringing this back to mainstream. LONG LIVE BLUEGRASS
I really like that Billy Strings pays homage to Doc Watson. Other guitar pickers might pick faster, but IMO, no one can better Doc.
Beyond epic. That essence of bluegrass--discipline and freedom. What can you say? This should have a billion views.
Just..... WOW!!!!!!!
Love the lights. Like a rail road station 🚉 🚂
That boy just kicked my ass good, and i damn near fell out a my easy chair over that fine tune
That's some SEVERE talent right there!! Just excellent, and brand new to me! Love it. Thanks for posting!
Dam! They sure sound good and pick out good songs to play!
Billy Strings… always crushes it.
FLAWLESS!
Incredible!
He’s coming to NY and I can’t wait ☮️
DAMN SAM! Very few can follow Doc, but Billy does him proud. He couldn't pick a better idol to emulate.
I'm a finger picker and I'm pretty good, but my hat is off to anyone who can flat pick..it's a whole other discipline. I just love Billy.
unbelievable. Flat picking like a master and someone channeling the greats of all time.
Lots of renditions of this. Doc set the s
the standard.
who ever the sound engineer is that captured this is a star as well ....
Doc Lives !
love this whistle -ing!
The man
This guy is good. He may go somewhere someday.
Dayum
I hope this man stays true to the music for the next sixty years or so and doesn"t go off the rails like a lot of people who attain meteoric fame early in their life. The bluegrass mantle is on his shoulders.
Doc Watson's music can not be crushed, but Billy is great in his own right. It is clean and sharp.
Can't be crushed, but can be miked. Here the cow is giving it up. Doc would be pleased.
Doc’s “ The Boss “ Billy’s “ The Kid “
Don’t hear much of the guys playing with him or who they are. Billy‘s great but kudos to them too!
Billy has introduced them over and over in my scant experience: Billy Failing on Banjo and vocals; Jarrod Walker on Mandolin and vocals; and, Royal Masat on standup Bass fiddle and vocals! Great team! Their tightness shows!
The whole band is legendary 🙌
Aw don't play that one paw, that one makes me cry. O.K. boys and a one and a two...
Billy....GOAT! 😉
Excellent 👍🇺🇸🇺🇸
Damn!!!!
Doc Watson is a pioneer! With that said Billy in way no crushes Doc!!! Shame on you!
Super 🎵🎶🎼🎸🍀✌️👌🇮🇱
What a treat to hear talented musicians in this age of garbage music.
Worthy
I think Merle Watson played the best version I had to opportunity to hear.

What did the finger point gesture mean? He makes Awesomeness normal ❤
Monitor up please
Världsklass!
LOVE THIS GUY, WISH I COULD HAVE WATCHED IT, BUT THOSE BLINDING LIGHTS FLICKERING PREVENTED ME. :(
Come on you mentioned everyone else?? Anyone you forgot, say Roy Acuff,He wrote the damn song give credit we’re due.
👋❤👋❤👋❤👋❤👋❤👋❤👋✌❤
you know its bluegrass when everyone, including the upright bass, has pedals
😂
Love it. Bluegrass should be played outdoors, imo. 😏
No Doc Watson where are the runs
And "the rest of the band..........Most Underrated Awesome As F'u*k Bluegrass Players That Rock It"
where the the bass break shit
He learned this from Doc…I have a lot of respect for Billy but saying he crushes Doc is disrespectful

Billy is Doc’s number one fan…this is more a tribute than crushing it!!
@@garihenderson456 you are sooo right! I just could not articulate it as well as you did!
I get to see billy honor docs 100th birthday. Billy loves doc like only music can love music
He doesn’t crush anything.
Bluegrass with a lightshow.... that's just wrong.... real wrong.
Better version than Doc. Really
