Saw them live this week and it was amazing. There are bands who just go and perform and then there are bands who enjoy the performance and you can see it, feel it. These guys are having as much of a blast as the audience does when they perform and Johannes is absolutely insane in character. Loved it.
The fact that Johannes mentions Devin as an inspiration AND had Devin play for Avatar during a tour is so f'ing amazing I can't believe it was thanks to Avatar that I found such an amazing artist as Devin Townsend. Seriously some of the coolest guys I've ever had the pleasure to listen to and see live!
I’ve been a huge Devin Townsend fan for years and got to see him live for the first time a couple months ago. I don’t blame johannes for using him as inspiration devin is a prodigy
I found Avatar a few years ago and it was instant love for Me. Johannes is an amazing frontman and really understands how to "Put on a show". I love their style and their theatrics. I ain't gona lie though when Johannes puts on the make up it's like whoah this guy is super attractive. I have always loved guys that don't look or fit into the norms of attractiveness. He makes me feel super happy when I hear His voice. He's also super chilled out which is a bonus 🥰
Oh finally somebody said it 😂 I have never been into the full face clown makeup but that man had me questioning some things 😂 saw them live and I was ENTRANCED I tell you

What a great interview! I know virtually nothing of this guy or even the band.. Last fall me and my 8 year old son went to Green Bay Wisconsin to probably the best or at very least one of the very best haunted attractions I've ever been to called Terror on the Fox. Have been here several times.. however this time when approaching what the call "The Big House" they would periodically have these amazing shows out front and on the haunt facade where all the actors/monsters would be acting out some heavy metal thrash song and its always my favorite part of each trip here. Well this time one of the songs they were acting out to was Hail the Apocalypse and it was absolutely f-ing amazing!!! I'd never heard the song before but me and my boy were instantly in love with this song!!! Was so fitting for this attraction and these actors absolutely were totally into it as well! Was a cool experience! On the ride home that night I found the music video of Hail the Apocalypse and my son thought it was just the coolest video ever! Lol! And I agree and approve!!! ;) I've watched several videos since and even a few live performances. This guy signs off in such a commemorable way. Such a decent guy. Full of heart and definitely full of love as well! I feel like over the years the culture around metal music and in all my years working around haunted attractions that the greater public sometimes looks at this as just a bunch of weirdos and nutcases. However I'm absolutely certain that in my experience I've only come across some of the most compassionate and stand-up people I've ever met! Long story short... we love this band! Lol! So from Wisconsin.. please come play here!!! Lol!!!

Around 24 minutes in, he discusses the difficulty in singing his parts, and how he doesn't realize until he sings the song the whole way through that he may "be in trouble"- I heard the single Dance Devil Dance and I thought UH-OH, how is he going to sing this live night after night? Well I will be seeing the band soon, so I guess I'll find out!

Very cool and interesting that you were into classic rock before getting into metal Johannes, and even more interesting to find out that your first taste of damn good metal was Helloween, Keeper Of The Seven Keys!!! Wow, very cool indeed bro!!! Another thing I find very fascinating is how you became a front man at an early age, and that the beginning of Avatar was already in the making with you, John and Jonass (and hopefully I spelled your names right fellas, and if not, I am extremely sorry), but I really am surprised at how this killer major rocking metal band got started!!! And by the way Johannes, thank you for turning me on to the band The Haunted!!! I have to admit that I've never heard of them before, but since you were impressed with them, I'm sure that I will be as well??? We'll find out once I'm done listening to your story bro!!! And by the way, I can tell what you're saying for the most part when you growl, because you have a talent for doing it much better than most I've heard doing it Johannes!!! Something else I wanted to mention is that I kinda thought that if I ever heard your story, that you would have some kind of music education behind your belt, and from what you've said, it sounds like you have, but not exactly the way I thought, but I thought that maybe you had gone to music college, but it doesn't matter exactly how and where, you definitely learned what you needed to, because in my opinion the fact that you're a multi instrumentalist is so very cool, but the way you use your voice is just damn killer cool shit bro!!! But ya know, you mentioned something that is very true, and that is whatever any of us does in life as a way of making money, or job, whatever, it's always going to be a learning experience!!! And with music, I've never actually had to worry about getting up on stage and performing in front of a crowd, because my dream of being a guitar player is pretty much a failure at this point, and I won't take time to explain it all since it would take to long, but what I did want to say is that with music it's like a hobby if you're really into it, but a very hard working job as well, because I do have a few musician friends over the years, and one of those actually came very close to making it big as a killer bass player in a band called Sirfice, but it imploded right before the big time happened!!! But my point is that most people think that it's such a fun party life, and it can be if done with discretion, but for the most part it's a very hard job of one even ever makes it big, and even a harder job to stay there once you've made it!!! But I'm sure that I'm not telling you anything that you already don't know!!! Anyhoo bro, I'm going to pick up here tomorrow where I left off on your interview, because I really want to hear the rest of your story, because it's extremely important and interesting to me, but I am extremely tired at the moment as it's now going on 4 am my time, and I got up fairly early this morning, and I'm also getting to be an old man my brother!!! I really loved this interview! Thank you! So fun to hear about the making of... Just found Avatar at Sweden Rock Festival this year (2023) and fell in love instantly! To being a hardrock loving Swede and not knowing about them though they been out there for so many years is a bit embarrassing 😅 I love their diversity. Interesting to hear about the musical upbringing that explains 2 of the acts that makes your jaw drop That voice Johannes has! It's one thing to do tricks in a studio but you know it's real when it sounds the same live. To hear that he actually do warmups just makes me feel respect. Now I enriched my life thanx to these guys ❤Thank you!

That way we could enjoy both. I didn't enjoy Let It Burn while trying to understand the words Johannes said :/

I just saw them over the weekend. Easily the most entertaining band of the day. I’m diving deep into their catalogue now.
