Go check out Matt’s channel and see more Matt ruclips.net/user/wheelsthroughtime
My Dad told me some of these motorcycles were in Saint Lucia. Yes the Caribbean. The navy used the island for repainting ships. They also had a small base.
@@shekharmoona544 that’s very interesting
Thanks for stopping by! Excited to be a part of the project.
I can't believe this was the first time you were on the channel, you're such a fixture now
Matt is an expert, a wealth of knowledge, even he has people to learn from, the tear down, had me thinking you guys were in trouble, but collaboration with Matt will set you on the right track, this is certainly some interesting content.
The amount of knowledge/confidence in this guy is downright inspiring. One of the coolest wrenchin’ videos I’ve ever watched
took the words straight from my mouth, didnt want this one to end
I immediately thought of these guys as where to go to. They have every interest in giving you the straight up info. They won't covet your parts. They have piles of them around them. They have a reputation to maintain. And seem to be all around good guys.
big beard big brains
But he is not in South Carolina he is in North Carolina! Big big difference
WTT is the go to old Harley channel if you like that kind of thing check out Wheels through time is you haven't all ready
Absolutely loving this series. That dude is a wealth of knowledge. Keep it coming!
Glad you enjoy it!
@@BikesandBeards glad you enjoy your viewers support
Imagine his dad... he was fascinating to just hear him speak. An absolute treasure! The legacy lives on though and so glad you made the trip!
@@freemanadv absolutely.. truly passionate.
I miss him..
Please let everyone know that WIT is in Maggie Valley NORTH CAROLINA NOT South Carolina
Matt’s knowledge is beyond impressive. He regurgitated everything from his head like a true expert of his craft. I thoroughly enjoyed this episode
What getting more clear to me is that the original builder of this bike was clearly a gear head. You don't get an engine in that good condition sitting in such crummy environment for such a long time without everything being perfectly torqued and sealed. The builder and rider of this bike cared for it 100%
Well played on that photo, sir... well played...Got me wiping my screen.
@@davedlpz He got me too. But I read your comment before I tried to wipe it.
Over torqued a tad maybe
The way Matt went "Ohhhhh thats coooool" when peering inside your engine was great ...... when you see an expert react like that you know you've got a winner on your hands 😁
Oooohhhh They are HOT CAMS
He reminds me of my neighbor growing up, always had 5 motorcycles and a project of some kind
they figured that out when the first guy offered them a rebuilt engine in trade.
@@jessebianchi2631 thats just when they suspected it ...... the expert opinion officially confirmed it 😉
@@MotoGoato the first guy knew exactly what he was looking at. the immediate offer of a seemingly too good to be true swap was the kicker that set off alarm bells. matt just put a number on it. not denigrating matt in the least.
Matt and Dale are some of the classiest people that I've ever met. I'm so glad that Matt shares the passion and knowledge that his father had for vintage American motorcycles.
It’s great when you can find a real expert that is willing to share his knowledge freely. Wonderful video guys.
Gotta tell you, this might have been my most favorite episode ever on your channel. I have been a big fan of Dale and Matt for years and am always amazed at the knowledge they have collected about American built bikes. So happy you guys took the WLA there to have them help out on the build.
Ok we can all relax now. You've got Matt involved. And your doing just what needs to be done. Won't be long you'll be looking for another one. This is how it starts. Harley fever.Good job guys. We're proud of ya.RMM
We can not relax ! These people think they are in South Carolina!
How can you get that wrong if you drive there ?
It’s in Maggie valley NORTH CAROLINA
@@fuzzyelm1 LoL, caught that too!
Harley engines are crapola. Maybe these old engines and bikes are cool for the time, but it’s down right amazing how Harley continued with their piss poor design for so long. I mean present day Harley riders are literally upset at Harley for finally upgrading their tech to the modern day simply because “it doesn’t sound like a Harley anymore” jeeeeeezus.
What an amazing experience that must be having Dale's son Matt tear into your motor and explain what it is, what it isn't, and what things could be. Saying Matt knows his stuff is an understatement. Matt's father passed his knowledge on well and his legacy lives on with every bike and story told within the walls there. Thanks guys, thanks Matt and rest easy, Dale. Getting to visit Wheels Through Time Museum is a bucket list trip for me. ✌
Glad to see Matt passing on the knowledge and helping you guys out. Wish Dale was around also, he will be missed.
You went to the right guys at wheels through time. I can't wait for the outcome. 👍🏴
Best episode in the series yet!
That man is a cool knowledgeable individual.
Ahhh guys I’m so stoked for you!! I cannot WAIT to see how this all ends up 🙌🏻 I’ve never clicked on a notification so quickly 😂
You're the best!
@@BikesandBeards did you notice the username? Just asking.
It's really great that you guys are doing it right. Don't let the old bikes die
I've been into vintage bikes since '78. I knew Matt's late , great, dad, Dale. He told me I had the nicest Knucklehead on the judging field. My old '39 E model. I said it was a number job, I said the frame was brazed, and I said it was a fair offer. Matt confirmed it. Good luck Sean and Craig.
I was taught that polishing the rods added strength. The thought behind it was that a forging blemish would be the point of failure and polishing any blemishes out would lead to less potential points of failure.
This is true to a great degree. It gets more important as you push parts beyond their design limits.
The same thing applies to easing/chamfering the sharp corners on a block.
Stress risers
Thats not true.
Its for weight reduction and oiling. Its also just something old dudes did because they were bored and trying to get power anywhere they could.
This engine is tiny. Its barely making 1/50th the power the modern stuff does.
@@krotchlickmeugh627 It is true, and it's called a stress riser from the casting process.
So glad you've got Matt rebuilding that engine. As soon as you bought that bike I was thinking you need to reach out to him. Great video, I didn't want it to end. Matt could do an entire series called "Let's See What You Got" where people bring him their vintage motorcycle parts to see what they have.
Ok👍🏼
Thank you Dave and thank you Will!
Glad you guys went there. Probly couldn't have gone to a better mechanic and human being to help you guys with that awesome motor.
Never been a fan of the older bikes but im following this series intently haha
How great is it when you can walk in with a motor, watch as the mechanic tears it down (right in front of you) and get a running commentary on the tear down. All in the span of one day. Priceless.
If I take my bike to the shop, I treat it like it's a little kid being left at school for the first time. There's tearful goodbyes, lingering embraces and solemn promises that we'll be back together as soon as possible. And then the dreaded wait....
Anywho, interesting series, I'll be watching this one very closely.
Man this is what I live and breathe! I could spend all day every day watching this guy rebuild and getting in on some of the old school rebuild action. I absolutely love this series man. I can't believe the insane engineering of the motors back than what an absolute beast.
Not a Harley guy but love motorcycle history and the old American motorcycles, that museum looks like a worth while ride from here in PA.
Wouldn't you love to work along side Matt, feel like I learned valuable info just from this clip. Been to WTT twice and met and talked to Dale both times, what a great guy he was. RIP.
It's nice watching an enthusiast work. Being an expert is one thing but being both is a lot more engaging. Dude just grabs his tools, gets to work and loves every second of it.
You guys went to the definitive expert in his field. He's more than a wrench turner. He's a historian when it comes to HD. You honestly could not have picked a better place to find out what you have.
I love listening to the expert talk about this engine! wow. He is a savant.
Thank you, Sean and Craig for letting us tag along on this awesome WLA adventure. I am not even a big Harley guy, but find that i am obsessing on this build a lot more than I ever imagined I would. Probably because of the story you are creating along side this bike since you bought it, rode it, and brought it home. Damn cool!!! So hyped for the next chapter!
This dude is so cool! You can tell he loves what he does and honest to-boot. You guys are pretty lucky to be getting his help.
I am so happy this motor ended up at Wheels Through Time. This is where this motor needed to be looked at and hopefully rebuilt
That is absolutely awesome and fantastic news! I'm so happy for you guys and can't wait to see where the rest of this project goes! Kudos for sticking it out and seeing it through and best of luck, it's gonna be EPIC!!!
There is nothing I love more than listening to someone who is passionate about something they love.... this dude is one of those dudes
I was a little worried when I seen that you guys were going to rebuild that old bike. Now that Matt from WTT is involved I know it’ll get done well, and done right
I’m sure glad you took that flatbed to Mat, personally I love those old bikes. I wonder if there using a Linkard carb on a hi performance 45?
What an interesting and genuine guy Matt is, he needs his own channel! Great content.
He has his own channel it’s wheel through time
I know fishing. Barely anything about motorcycle engines, except what I learned when we had Rupps and dirt bikes back in the 70s&80s. But, this episode is probably one of the coolest things on YT.
What a cool shop and incredible gift to have been welcomed in, for all of us.
I'm so excited to see the rest of this series. I love Matt, his knowledge is invaluable. He was so lucky to have Dale for a father and mentor.
Years ago, I myself studied the brand extensively, but nothing like this guy has! He's a walking encyclopedia of All Things Harley! 👍
You guys are definitely on the right track and producing fantastic content. This collaboration with WTT is the best possible choice you could have made...thank you.
This is a colab that i wasnt expecting and am so excited to see, you guys both are producing some of my favorite content on youtube. Keep it up. God Speed.
Visited WTT in 2018. Spent a whole day there and it wasn't enough time. So much to see. Literally rows of bikes, engines, frames, etc, etc... What a great day.
I’m loving this series, keep up the hard work!
Wow, fascinating engine parts teardown and articulation by the shop owner. Fun to learn about the old Harley engines, and how they were designed to function. Thanks for the video.
You are very lucky to have access to someone who knows so much about these vintage bikes. I have a 1946 which hasn't run since late 70's. I really want to get it running but it's hard to know, where to start, what's salvageable, what's valuable, what's original, etc. There aren't many experts around to help. That first evaluation of the bike is so important.
the dude is a walking, talking motorcycle genius.... I love to listen to his discussion... never get bored with that... I will absolutely need to visit his place when my travels take me near there!
This series is awesome, and such a fantastic evolution of your channel and content!
Glad you enjoy it!
I'll admit to not being much of a HD fan but this (re)build has been uber cool.
I've watched sporadically for a year or so, but this series is the one that finally hooked me. Great find, couldn't have taken it to a better place. Can't wait for next week! 👏🏻
Most excellent video. Matt's easy-going way of sharing his never-ending knowledge was humbling. Really appreciate the scripture @14:53. Very, very cool.
Matt is a great guy and rider I've always enjoyed riding against him at the field games in Davenport, and you'd never know what Dale had in that trailer!
All I drive are motorcycles, cant drive a car nor do I want to. I loooooove being on 2 wheels and this series is tiggling me in all the right places. Keep it up its going to be so exciting seeing this project coming together.
you must not have 4 kids
Wish I had that level of ....un -neediness? Delivered flowers all day yesterday, car works great. Haul trees/logs and equipment yr round, have a small fleet of trucks. Wish I could do it all on my bikes😄.
@@BikesandBeards a few saddle bags and a sidecar and your golden hahaha.
You can't put a baby seat in a a side car.
As someone who's learning to restore classic n Vintage Norton's from the 20's 40's n 60s I just wanna say absolutely loving this series of videos :) really brilliant to watch.
I could listen to Matt for hours!
This guy is crazy knowledgeable.
You and Craig would be the coolest people to hang out with. Seats subtle jokes are great too lol. Keep it up yall
Matt seemed like a cool dude too
Obviously meant to say Sean not seats lol
Always great to see and hear someone who just knows their shit inside out. Good job guys.
What a great episode!
There are curious guys, there are professional guys, and then there are enthusiasts like Matt who are on another universe, way beyond anyone else´s capabilities. He loves what he does. It shows!
Keep up the excellent work, Sean ! @Bikes and Beards
Laying in bed listening to Matt pull this thing apart and his casual overall comments. Real nice to listen to someone hands on and does not get to excited.
Love you guys going somewhere like wheels through time. I live in Maggie and this place is what got me into motorcycles. You guys convinced me to finally buy my first one (2018 drz 400sm). You guys have been a true inspiration to me. Keep up all the amazing work and serving god in those things you do! ❤️❤️
You guys are 'old school' bikers and I'm loving it! Back in the day everyone worked on their own machines and HAD to or they'd not stay rideable. When Honda was trying to expand the market in the '60's they introduced bikes to 'consumers' who bought, rode but couldn't work on them...much as we have today. Anyone at the mercy of a dealership mechanic isn't 'getting' what it meant to be a biker. I know people who love to ride but can't fix their own bikes...and I'm always encouraging them rather than taking the bike to another mechanic....invest in the tools and DIY!
This Harley you have is a different animal and good on you for finding someone who knows the minutia and history to give you a hand. Harley's are their own breed of cat and there's lots of specialized knowledge that you need to have to do a good job on them. Will be interesting to see where you go with this build!
JUST FANTASTIC, THIS ATMOSPHERE IS A SENSATION NEEDED SINCE WAS A KID... MARVELOUS, TOOLS OF HAPPINESS EVERYWHERE....TNX TO SHOW..
I've never really been a Harley man, but this whole thing is totally rivetting! I could listen to Matt all day long - it's such a pleasure when you meet a guy like him, who has absolutely masses of knowledge and who isn't afraid to share it - but in a totally helpful and sincere way, ie to grow your understanding rather than to parade his own superiority.
Dale Walksler was a legend in the bike world , he had such a wealth of knowledge when it came to motorcycles, he's truly missed, RIP brother
Yes and it upset me when they didn’t mention him although I saw the poster !
Another thing that bothered me was they didn’t even know what state they were in !
Maggie valley is in North Carolina not South Carolina
I had to look it up to see if he was around still. I'm saddened to hear of his passing.
@@fuzzyelm1 To be fair, they are deep into the mountains.
@@firesurfer they are not ! If you think that’s deep into the mountain then you would never find my house !
And it does not matter how deep you go into that mountain you will never find South Carolina
@@fuzzyelm1 OY!
That's really cool! I haven't been this interested in a Harley build in a very long time. Good on you for not jumping at offers and staying the course, it looks like you have a fantastic story for your rebuild, and a special little engine. Wonderful.
Matt is a super nice guy. I met him and his dad years ago and had a great time. I am sorry for his and our lose rest in peace.
So glad to see you guys at wheels through time. That place is amazing, and they do amazing preservation work on motorcycle history! Can't believe my 2 fav bike channels collab'd!
Awesome man, loving this journey and WTT is on the bucket list.
So lucky to have Matt with you.
Looking forward to seeing the next video.
Way to go guys, you stepped up the game by getting wheels thru time involved..
Like anytime you do something new, you don’t have to be limited to your own abilities
So awesome to see that you took the engine to Wheels through time! This is one of my favorite series of videos that you have done. Can't wait to see and hear the finished bike 👍🏼
This guys knowledge is incredible
The voiceovers, music, filming angles, experts,…this video fits the format of a Discovery Show. You guy’s going tv?
Congrats on scoring a great engine/bike. It's nice to know that you're doing everything you can to put it right and tight. I'm looking forward to seeing and hearing it after you finish the rebuild.
lovin this series man. its honestly so amazing seeing all these old machines. beat up or clean, its a piece of history that is part of something we all love. y'all are great keep it up
What an awesome rebuild video. One of the best I've ever seen. The world needs more guys like matt.
This is my favorite video in this series so far! So cool to learn the history and uniqueness of the motor from an expert who is honest and appreciates what he’s working on!
I love the WLDR series you're putting out, love seeing the older bikes come back to life. Keep up the good work and God bless 🙌
You guys raised your "cool" factor a few points by having Matt on your channel. He is the Harley Guru for sure! I just met him last week while at the Museum in Maggie Valley!
I really enjoyed What's in the Barn, and this is a great continuation. It's cool to see Matt become the man, out of the shadow of his dad. Many of us have had dads who got deference because of their strong personality, experience and knowledge, and they started the business, so they ran the show. As time wears them down, they become more agreeable and patient, and the torch slowly gets passed. The best we can do is give our kids all the tools they need to thrive when we're gone. And Dale has certainly done that.
Great to have someone that knows everything about old motors, can't wait to hear it come back to life again. Cool video.
Talk about worth the drive. Being able to show differences between your engines parts against other examples off hand is amazing. Great content 👍
Great video Sean and Craig! You are nailing it with this series!
You went to the right place. Those dudes know their stuff.
Thank you for letting us experience this build with you!!
Now THIS video, this is the video I was hoping to get to.
That other older gentleman really could've gone much deeper into it and given you a greater detailed account like this guy.
I'm SO happy they agreed to help you guys out for this video!!!
It's a BLAST watching it!
Matt is the master! He knows everything about old motorcycles. Glad that you bought a nice motor. Happy riding
great to see the enthusiasm and hear the knowlege these young guys have.hats off to em.
So good to watch a guy with so much knowledge and skill .and love for motorcycles .really lucky to have such a guy to keep classic bikes running and looking so good .mick uk
Dude. you guys are killin it with this latest episode. I normally don't watch a lot of your content but I watched this episode twice.. Cant wait to hear it run after the rebuild. I'm sure the bike will turn out to be fantastic no matter what you do as long as that engine still looks pretty!
Thanks to Sean and all the guys! Love the content lately!
Awesome video and it was so cool to see the True gear head this guy is and how much knowledge he has. Keep up the Great work!
Excited for your having such knowledgeable people look at and rebuild that motor. Great editing job.
This kind of videos take the channel to a different level. Would love videos of you guys finding old bikes and restoring them..
Best series you've ever done. LOVING THIS!
That guy seemed so honest and down to earth. Hard to find these days, another great video guys!
I'm excited to see and hear more about the build.
So glad you took the motor to Matt he is definitely the one to give life to this bike. This is a awesome video thanks for the enjoyment !!! God bless you and all involved with this build.
