totally agree with the assessment. xtr line is a great time saver for heavy lifting projects, but an overkill for most dyi jobs. NextGen lies somewhere in between, honestly more than enough for home projects. Plus, comes with a fair price tag.
The XTR is king for the price and the power you get. I have used all brands doing hard construction for 20 years and I’ll take the kobalt XTR line any day over Dewalt etc. Not just for the awesome performance and durability kobalt offers but the price on their tools and batteries to. Their battery prices are very reasonable . Check out their 40 volt chainsaw and weed eater to those suckers are nice 👍
I have used every major brand of driver out there, from the early Makita stick NiCd, NiMh tech, and multiple lithium brands including Hilti. The Kobalt drill has tons of power and is rugged as hell. The rest of the line is insane too.
I purchased the 6x tool Kobalt Gen2 kit that didn't include a hammer drill. You will get way more value and usage out of a hammer drill the minute you need to mount a metal bracket or clamp to concrete or brick. So I picked up the XTR hammer drill which works great. I would never again buy a plain drill driver! Get a combo impact driver with hammer drill and you'll cover the majority of projects and chores. Also I'm a fan of that one handed recip saw that came with my kit - use it indoors as well as cutting tree limbs.
Fwiw here's my take on torque ratings for drills ,a top tier drill say around 1200 inch pound torque will give you a little bit more power in high gear than a mid tier drill of around 800 in lbs. Mist of your big auger bits and 4" plus hole saws will be uncontrollable on high speed anyway. Torque ratings are wildly optimistic anyway.
As a pro I’m not using these but I would buy them as a tester for fun, I am a fan of the color but I will stick with the big red machine on the job site

they’re a beast, all right. you have no idea how many hex bits we destroyed. we tried most and unable to find any that can keep up with xtr impact. 🫶

I have the Gen 1 and the XTR. I really never NEED the XTR but, when I do, I get really excited! It really is a beast. Both are fine tools.
This makes me feel better. I bought the XTR line on special. Thought these would make my set obsolete. Maybe not
id like to see tis against ryobis highest end hammer drill
I have all Kobalt tools. Only interested in new and upcoming XTR lines. Nothing is better.

Continue marching in line sir
If you get the hammer drill, do you need the drill driver? Since the hammer drill has "drill" settings in the interior collar?
In some ways, this feels like a knock at Dewalt's DCD800
Needs lower prices or sale.
Black Friday is your best deal on these Kobalt cordless tools

I have been cheated by Kobalt. A total fraud on purchase of the drill. Got no money back.
