I really love Prokofiev's music, even this opera. I'm just not sure about this production, although it has a great cast. I must say, the sing and acting are fantastic . I guess I'll just have to watch it a few more times to know if I really like this production. Anyways, thank you so much for uploading this very interesting version of War and Peace. As always, I love your channel.
There's an earlier production from the same iconic theatre, recorded in 1990 or 1991 at the dusk of the Soviet era, with faithfully historical sets and costumes - you might like to look for that pne! It's available as a 2-DVD set (note: the Mariinsky often style themselves "Kirov Opera", even today when they are referring to the ensemble rather than the theatre itself: Kirov was the name of the theatre in Soviet times.

Deeply uncomfortable watching the nationalist choruses, while Russians are doing exactly that to their neighbours. The humanist echoes of Tolstoy are still there, especially in Pierre, and the music is terrific, but this cannot now be performed as is.

Dear Sir... Please read our mention at the end of the film description...
@@alteamedia And then there is the matter of Valery Gergiev directing. . .
Isn't it a stark reminder of what it's like to be under attack without provocation? Russia was not an aggressor in 1812
