Hey! I would like to NOT see the theorycrafting bit.
There's a distinct possibility I'm asking this to troll you so you would have to add a little intermezzo where you say you remove it in the next one....

I'd say it's cheating if you win without prioritising finding your 3 cost unit. The whole challenge is random reroll challenge, that's the only rule. Fair enough if you cannot find your champ while rerolling or if they are somehow all taken out of the pool, but when you deliberately prioritise levelling before the reroll you're not doing the challenge anymore you're just trying to win in anyway.
Of course that's just my opinion. it's your game, you play how you want. That's just what's fun to watch for me.
I agree I think! IMO the 3 star needs to happen at SOME point for the game to count!
