Thanks Doug, not anymore.
LOL... no kidding
Remember this statement "Its an Aston Martin" every time you hear how much something as simple as an oil change is on that V12. From the conversations i've had with other V12 Aston Martin owners just routine maintenance costs alone will cause you to rethink putting any miles on these cars they were not built around the idea of accessibility of filters or affordable oil changes. . I love modern Astons, quirks and all, but i'm not even brave enough to go back to the early 2000's for something affordable to BUY, not OWN which are two completely separate costs. Word to the wise, nothing is more expensive than a cheap British supercar, except maybe a cheap wooden yacht.
I love Doug and his videos, but I swear he is the reason some of my dream cars have shot up in price when they previously flew under the radar.
I got a $7000 repair bill just from watching this
Legendary.
That car is « Camry reliable »
Dont go for cars you cant afford to maintain.
stick to a prius or cash car toyota corolla that fits your budget 😂
@HistoryFan 88 Except it's not. The A/C evaporator fails regularly and you need to remove the entire dashboard to replace it. That's a $1,000 part. The pencil coils fail all the time. Those are about $125.00 for the good ones and you need 12.
Also these cars have a unique master cylinder with spool valves for each circuit and they stick. That's an Aston only part. Last l check it was $5,600 exchanged.
The problem is when they stick it resembles a bad caliper. So unless you're an Aston guy or having a aston guy work on it, they'll probably replace the calipers 1st.
Thermostats are terrible. Those are $250...
The rear ends are touchy and fluid needs to changed religiously every 30,000 miles.
ha ha ha, that is a very funny comment! ha ha ha Good one!
THIS is a man. More specifically, a 1988 Doug Demuro. And today, Im going to go over his quirks and features, then take him out on the road to see how he drives. THEN, we will give this Doug a Doug Score.
Starting with the exterior, this 1988 Doug Demuro comes with a 2-tone color scheme. On the top, a grey shirt with the logo of the "Portland Sea Dogs" on it, and on the bottom, beige pants. An interesting color choice, and it seems to be aftermarket. Further, this model does not come with a hat. However, this is the Sport Model, so this Doug comes with a lapel microphone to record your commentary. That is about it for the exterior quirks, now we move to the interior.
Inside, this Doug comes equipped with every option a man would have from the factory. All internal organs are present, however, this one has a a special program loaded onto the brain, enabling it to talk endlessly about quirks and features. Quite a nice option, and a truly rare one from the factory. This option in combination with the color scheme makes this man a unique example, the only one in the world.
Now, lets take this guy out on the road, and see how he drives.
Doug is not exceptionally fast, with a maximum speed of 25 miles per hour, a bit slower than the average 28 miles per hour of most humans, however, as he has the sport package, he can talk while doing so, and record it with the aforementioned lapel mic. SO, when you are done running, you can upload your lap commentaries, and share it with your friends. Doug's acceleration is decent, reaching his top speed in just 10 seconds, quite impressive. However, due to a bad evaporative cooling system found on all humans, Doug can only keep up his top speed for a few minutes, after which, the top speed drops drastically. Doug's handling is impressive. Like all humans, he can turn 360 degrees on the spot, can jump to clear low curbs or speedbumps, and is able to move using his arms as well as his legs. However, what sets this guy apart in the handling department is his ability to fit into rear seats. Doug can cram himself into even the smallest of rear seats, the most impressive being the rear seats on the 996 generation Porsche 911 with hardback sport seats. Even the smallest guys often cannot fit into those rear seats, however, Doug did.
That concludes the driving experience of the 1988 Doug Demuro.
And now it's time to give THIS guy a Doug score...
Starting with the Weekend Categories and Styling, Doug is ok but not beautiful and the cheap clothes don't help, so he gets a 5 out of 10.
Acceleration is fine, considering his height (6'3 or 6'4/unknown) and he gets a 6 out of 10.
Handling is only ok, sometimes he can't handle special purpose cars plus he's a little tall and not athletic so he gets a 4 out of 10.
Fun Factor is high, especially for who he izz, and the 2 T-shirts bump it up a point or two, and he gets an 8 out of 10.
Cool Factor is high too, he is probably the best reviewer among other RUclipsrs and he gets a 9 out of 10 for a total Weekend Score of 32 out of 50.
Next up are the Daily Categories and Features, he has a lot of weird/interesting quirks and features and he gets a 7 out of 10.
Comfort is top notch, this guy is really comfy and relaxed and he gets a 9 out of 10.
Practicality is low, he isn't practical at all, he even uses his iPhone to record and he gets a 3 out of 10.
Quality is mediocre for the class, this guy just doesn't seem quite well built and he gets a 4 out of 10
Finally..,Value...Doug is worth watching, but he's "depreciating" fast considering he's only 30 and looks like 40 so he gets a 5 out of 10 for a total Daily Score of 28 out of 50..
Add it up and the Doug Score IZZZ..60 out of 100 and here's how he stacks up against rivals...
Lmfao I almost dropped my phone laughing so hard

No one talking about how the car colour is called "Ferrari grigio titanio" in the owner's manual???
It's an actual Ferrari color. Many luxury brands have an "anything you want" color option and some clients opt for colors across other brands. It's possible that the original owner had a Grigio Titanio Ferrari and wanted his/her Aston Martin to match it.
Specific shades of colors is actually an interesting niche in the car community. Some colors are famous for varying reasons and a few even have their own enthusiast base. Porsche is especially known for this. They have various shades of bold, light blues such as; Mexico Blue, Miami Blue, Pastel Blue, Bahama Blue, Arrow Blue, etc. and some enthusiast owners will pay the roughly ~$10k Porsche charges to get a color from outside their standard offering.
@@NoGoodHandlesComingToMind Thanks. Interesting, I didn't know that.
my dad used to daily a black v12 db7 when I was a kid. were watching this together right now reminiscing about how much fun we had in this car. so nostalgic!
It's weird to see the top going up-and-down without one of Doug's famous tunes
None of the Db7s shortcomings can obscure the fact that this is one of the most beautiful cars of all time. Ian Callum has a terrific portfolio of excellent designs but the DB7 is by far his best. There is not a single thing in that design that I would change.
Did he do the original Jaguar Xj41, or was his job to touch up that design and adapt it into an Aston one?
Did he do the XJ41 as well?
@@C.I... The XJ41/42 was initially designed by Keith Helfet and then Ian Callum took over. After the project was rejected as a Jaguar, Ian Callum was tasked with turning the concept into an Aston Martin, so yeah, he designed both.
remember using this DB7 on Need for Speed HP, 20 years ago, what a beauty
Even though they were on a tight budget, they managed to make it one of the most beautiful cars, even today.

Here’s another quirk on this car: the license plate frame says “Keep Tahoe Blue & Gold”
The League to Save Lake Tahoe gives out stickers that say “Keep Tahoe Blue,” and the South Tahoe High School’s colors are Blue and Gold. So maybe the owner pulls hard for the South Tahoe Vikings.

Astons are so damn underrated. Their styling truly stands the test of time and I would love to own one in the near future
Old Aston Martin styling stood the test of time. The current crop is ghastly (minus the current DBS, which is merely disappointing) and will likely be unrecognizable as an Aston in a decade's time.
If there is any brand that is overrated, it is Maserati
Underrated from a car built with a tight budget lol
I'd buy this in a heartbeat. Still a beautiful car. Not as beautiful as the DB9 etc but still a gorgeous car. It harkens back to the old jags.....

"Nothing is more expensive than a cheap british supercar"....I think cheap Italian supercar would like to have a word or two haha.
Realistically you could do an oil change on the DB7 Vantage yourself. Might need a jack to drain the oil and change the plug, but the filter is changed through the engine bay. Most work on the DB7 models is actually quite easy and inexpensive to do yourself with a little bit of knowledge.
Jeff, Sorry but this is completely wrong! These cars are probably the easiest cars to do an oil change on or change anything on. If you ever get your hands dirty with a db7 or Db9, everything is there at your fingertips. I would agree with you on your statement if you are referring to the V8 Vantage and the V12 Vantage. Everything on those cars is cramped and much harder to get to but when you talk about the 7 & 9, its really super simple to access and change anything.
@@AM-he6je actually I’d argue the Gaydon V8 Vantage is pretty easy to work on too. V12 Vantage not so much though.
Ever try doing an oil filter on a DB7 Vantage...it's a huge pain, unless you have very tiny hands, which I don't have sadly. Most of the other stuff I've had to do hasn't been too bad though.
The ''Jaguar'' key is actually typical european Ford key they used from 80's to 2000's. The easiest lock to break in ever.
The Citroen CX also had a rotary version, is a pretty interesting car, and i think very few people have it in the US. Would be cool if you managed to find and review one doug.

A fun fact about the Jaguar connection is that the DB7 was originally going to be called the Jaguar F-Type and was designed to take cues from the classic E-Type. But when Ford decided the car would be better suited as an Aston, the designer simply took that design and put Aston Martin logos and a grille on it.

The deepest irony of this car is that even the engine is based on the Ford Duratec V6 (itself, based on a Mazda V6). No shame, however: those origins made it strong and reliable.
Shane, that is completely wrong. Only thing used from the Duratec were the pistons which were over designed due to overheating issues the Duratec guys had on their initial design. The pistons were then over designed and more than sufficient for the V12 during the time of development. The "rumor" that Astons v12 was a duratec is just that a rumor and is completely false.
@@AM-he6je A solid challenge, John. I did say 'based on', which I think is permissible. Although block, crank, and camshafts were AM's design, it wasn't just the pistons that came from Ford, but also the con-rods, valves, and rocker arms.
And why not? Why eschew good engineering for the sake of pride?
One of the best looking cars of the past three decades. Despite being a parts-bin special. Only surpassed by the DB7 Zagato.
Doug! The same radio was used in early 986 and 996 Porsches and the alarm fob was also used by GM-era Saabs. Both of my Saab 900SEs had that key fob. :D
the transmission in this car is Tremec T-56, a 6 speed manual common for many different sportscars and muscle cars including Chevrolet Corvette and Dodge Viper.
