When I lost my husband I made a decision almost immediately because I could have gone off the deep end. I decided not to ask, “Why me?” but replace that with, “Why not me?” And I decided that every time my thoughts turned dark I would replace dark thoughts with thoughts of gratitude for every second my husband was here. It truly helped.
I went the same direction when one of our 21 year old twin sons was killed instantly in a head on car accident that wasn’t his fault just 2 days before 9/11 happened and our whole nation was in shock. I’ve told myself truth about what happened to Tim, but! especially the whole truth, such as where Tim is, how incredibly amazing it must be for him being with Jesus and family gone on before him. I’ve continued to remind myself how sufficient God grace and holding my heart power is. It’s been amazing how much peace has enveloped my life and heart in this. It’s been incredibly tender how Ive discovered aspects of my Lords character and heart for me that I’d previously been unaware of. As I tell Him, He IS our Shelter from the storms, our Peace that passes human understanding, our Strong Tower, our Deliverer, our Help, our true Hope… and SO much more. More than enough for everything we’ll ever need🥹🙌🏼🩵💖💘💓 I love Him So much and greatly anticipate our grand reunion coming!

It's such a great passage of Scripture! I have had to practice on thinking good things, especially during our homeless stage. If I start to our homecooking or my bookshelves, I stop myself and tell God for what I'm thankful for. It's not easy, but if I'm focused on negativity, then I won't be at peace with God. Thank you Corie. This is Angie from Wichita Falls. This was so helpful to me. I am a Christian but even Christians struggle with things. I am having terrible anxiety right now due to illness in the family and several other things. I find myself worrying and trying to figure things out on my own and it seems my mind goes in a million different directions and I cannot focus my mind on anything. It's almost like I am just sitting around waiting for the phone to ring with bad news. This scripture was a gift from God through you. I had a good christmas . I was able to attend Christmas day .Which have had to miss it last year becasue of my pain .. praise the Lord he is always blessing me . Never never delivered child but I have passed kidney atones . They say it the same kind of pain . Omly thing is you deliver a rock . I stilled rejoice i was able to pass it . Thanks for the encouragement.
I use hymns. I was far from God in my life and filled my head full of some really awful stuff between music, television, and movies. When my mind starts playing bad thoughts over and over then i start to sing hymns in my head or just sing them out loud. Prayer also works. If i'm just really distracted and rehearsing or living life in my head then i will also pray, not for things or like a nightly prayer but just talking with God. Telling him what i'm gonna cook for dinner and thanking him for whatever good things are happening around me or to me, stuff like that. Both work very well though.

(You pronounced "pontificate" correctly BTW, LOL) Anxiety is running rampant in so many these days. Its important to train our thoughts, I learned this a long time ago. I had the same determination about epidurals and also was able to have my daughter without one, Praise God. I was actually afraid to have one after a friend had experienced temporary paralysic with one. This was over 34 years ago, and I've never thought of how this as an example of controlling our minds.

But these years no family, friends, or cards and honestly this was the hardest Christmas for me. Jesus is the reason for the season and I really kept thinking and saying that but I was sad. I heard a post-Christmas sermon. The pastor was talking about how all the Christmas decorations were getting put back up until next year and how for us Christians we get to have Christmas every day!!! I loved it!!! It’s true. Let’s rejoice together. 💜🎄💜

One of the passages my late husband helped me learn to live by: Phil. 4: 6-7 kind of goes right along with "Think on these things" If your mind dwells on things that are lovely, pure, and of good report, you won't have time to worry.

Katie, I had told your mom about a cookie recipe I have for my grandbaby that has a metobolic disorder that keeps her from breaking down long chain fat. She can only have a few grams daily. I’m not sure how to message other than right here lol I’m not good with technology haha. But the recipe has no butter or oil it does have egg white but sure you can use flax. Also the panorama apple barn in Elijay has a muffin mix you can add apples and applesauce and bake and it was good! It’s a struggle to find good treats when your use to traditional cooking in the south haha we love our butter!
