New Project Announcement: Vewlix VLX

- I've begun construction of another arcade cabinet. It's based on the Taito Vewlix once again, but this time it's designed to be used with a Hori VLX arcade stick and 23" ASUS "EVO monitor".
In this video, I go over my SketchUp drawing to give a sneak peak at what I'll be building.

This is icing on the cake. Decided to look into a DIY cab for SF4 and came upon your plans and worklog on your website. From reading/researching I realized that a good amount of people built or had someone build their cabs but did not document their progress as well as you or chose not to and just showed the end result.
Thank you for sharing your information to help others. Whenever I get to start on my own project I will be sure to share the knowledge just as you have.

Im getting an old NARC cabinet from my brother. Was thinking of somehow converting it to a more modern style cabinet such as the Vewlix, but then I thought I would be murdering a classic! Think I am just going to restore the NARC cabinet making it for MAME and build a new custom cabinet based on your TE Edition plans! Very detailed......did I mention these would be my first cabinet projects ever! Anyways thanks for the announcement and tutorials!
Wow, you are very kind. Thanks! I actually have video of the build that I need to get edited and posted along with some finalized plans. This time around I have a 2 year old and my life is busier than I expected as well. Finding it a lot harder to get free time. But, I have to get this done before winter. ;)
Thanks! I am filming it, you should see a video of most of the base being built in my channel. I got a standard Hori VLX back when they came out officially in the US. I also have a Diamond VLX for this project that I obtained through arcadeshock. The Diamond is still available there for $360 (whew boy!). But I see you're right about the standard VLX. Maybe a re-release for new consoles is coming?

Awesome! Be sure to check my website. I built arguably the first full size Vewlix MDF cabinet back in 2008 when SF4 (vanilla) launched and I already have a ton of info there.

Donovan, awesome video! I am very interested in this project. I am planning on doing one for myself, but I am wanting to put a 27" BenQ monitor in the cab rather than a the 23" ASUS EVO MONITOR (I am aware that my 27" BenQ monitor has 10ms input delay). Have you thought of putting in a bigger monitor? Also how are you able to put your monitor both portrait and landscape without running out of room in your cabinet? Lastly, do you plan on building a second cabinet and linking them so they are back to back? Keep up the great work!
+Vargus78 All great ideas. The plans did have the goal of allowing monitor rotation. I already built a cabinet back in '09 that has a 32" monitor. The goal of this cabinet was to use the EVO monitor and a VLX. I always liked the Vewlix VS cabinets. If I were to do back to back, I would try and make it all one piece like that unit. -- BTW, this project is cancelled. If you need any help or plans or anything, shoot me a message and I'll try to help.

I know. This video is so old now that you'd think I'd have the PDF plans ready. I'm sorry, but I don't yet. I'm still working on building it. My free time is much more limited than I had anticipated when I started this and now we're getting into freezing temperatures. I will have something very soon (before the end of November) on my website.
