    I think the TV show "Police Squad!" that this was based on was funnier. It was cancelled after only 6 episodes because the network thought people had to pay too much attention to get all of the jokes. It's worth checking out.
    In a similar vein is "Sledge Hammer!" which ran for 2 seasons (41 episodes) which starred David Rasche and Anne-Marie Martin. It ran from 1986 to 1988. Not long enough to go into syndication so it probably isn't much remembered.

  • @yohannbiimu

    This was actually a T.V. show but was mysteriously canceled after only a few released episodes. The opening had "POLICE SQUAD -- In Color," like it was something from the 60s, and had the same police lights and siren as this movie. I think the television episodes are available.

    • @SGlitz
      @SGlitz 3 года назад +2

      The official reason was it was "too funny" but what it was, was that the suits didn't get it and thought a show where you had to pay attention to was too ask of the zudience.

      I think Kay might find the comedy a bit "wittier" than "The Naked Gun." It had a lot more wordplay and a little less slapstick. There were only six half-hour episodes, so it wouldn't take a lot of time to get through.

    Ricardo Montalban is also known for Fantasy Island, playing Khan in Star Trek the tv-show and in The Wrath of Khan, he was also in the 3rd and the 4th Planet of the Apes-movies, he voiced an eye patch wearing villain who always said "come on, laugh with me" on Freakazoid!, the drawing of the character was obviously modeled after him and one of the last roles he did before he died was voicing a talking cow on Family Guy.

    So, I saw this movie for the first time in 1989. Right after it came out on VHS and on HBO. I actually think I saw this on HBO first with my parents. The thing I remember most about this movie was that I had NEVER laughed so hard in my entire life. I was almost 7 at the time. It’s the first film where I can remember legitimately being doubled over with laughter and unable to catch my breath. Lol. I saw this even before I first saw Airplane!, so it was my introduction to this kind of comedy and to Leslie Nielsen. Brilliant movie. Still holds up really well, I think. Well, except for O. J. Simpson. That didn’t age well. Lol.
    Also, the baseball game part of this is doubly funny because most of the players were actual baseball players from the time. And the announcers are all famous broadcasters from the era.

    What made Leslie so great was that he was trained and started out as a serious dramatic actor, but he had this ability to play characters who are completely oblivious to what is really going on and somehow become a part of their surroundings and situations with impeccable timing. His ability to deliver comedy deadpan serious is what makes his comedy performances so enjoyable. Very few actors could pull that off. This movie is too much 😂.

  • @DougRayPhillips
    @DougRayPhillips 3 года назад

    Leslie Nielsen was a serious dramatic actor in his early (1950s-70s) career. Mostly TV shows, including playing Francis Marion (the Swamp Fox) on Wonderful World of Disney. Was also Debbie Reynolds' love interest in Tammy and the Bachelor.
    Somewhere along the line, he switched to deadpan comedy/parody. You've seen this film, and Airplane! This film has two sequels. Plus, he was in Spy Hard, a live-action Mr. Magoo, a series of videos on how to play bad golf properly, etc.

    Get Smart was a brilliant show. Especially for its time. The stooges are timeless! The 'black guy' is OJ Simpson; he's famous for getting away with murder. He played football too. Great reaction.👍👍

      He didn't "get away with murder": the jury found him innocent, because of insufficient evidence to prove that he did it.
      Fast forward to "The Highway Killer" Glen Rogers, confessing to it.

      I worked at LAX when the murders took place: if he did it and made it to the airport as fast as the prosecution claims he did, he'd have needed a helicopter.
      Sorry, but the timeline the prosecution used, just doesn't jive, and that's why the coroner was almost declared a hostile witness. (his time of death exonerated Simpson)
      But, this isn't the arena for this, and its still a free country, so you and I can believe what we like.
      Oh - and thank you for showing Ashleigh what kind of a person you truly are - calling somebody names because you don't agree with them. Pretty smart on your part.

    It's just non-stop jokes and gags. It almost doesn't give you enough time to really react to all of the stuff coming at you each scene. Fantastic reaction though. Hope you have a great weekend!

    The movies are based on the short lived tv series that was only 5 episodes..it failed bc you have to watch it,sight gags,the same people also made Airplane, Hot Shots and Part Deux,they had something to do with the Scary Movie franchise too

    The Naked Gun, just like Airpane! or the Hot Shots movie (have you seen those ?), isn't just "dumb humour". There's dumb humor that's funny, and dumb humor that's not, we don't laugh JUST because it's dumb. The jokes ARE thought out... it's just that the humor is "dumb". ^^

      "Brain Donors" was a loose remake of the Marx Brothers movie, "A Night at the Opera." It was the film debut of John Turturro, who went to college with a friend of mine. When we saw the "Brain Donors" trailer at the theater, she screamed out, "OMG, I know him! I'm so jealous!"
