The tip about new vs old breather line design was very helpful. Saved a week of waiting for a new hose which I would not have discovered until reassembly.
Nice documentation. Here's a like and a sub. Just to add to your piece, my code reader says 3163 "Fuel tank ventilation system shutoff valve: jammed open" - Foxwell NT510
Glad this helped you. I'd appreciate a thumbs up and a subscription. Do you have water in the trunk yet which takes out the tailgate control module? Videos forthcoming on that nightmare!
Hi Sir,nice Detailed Information about this purge valve system and hose replacement!! Sir QUESTION>> Where did you get this Fault Flow Chart??? I have a 2013 x5 35i 160.000 kilometers .working perfect and never saw a servive engine light for the 1 year i purchased it used.andall of a sudden, bingo small engine service light then after 60 kilometres driving the highway to home, 1/2 Big servive engine light, it went into, ill call limp mode and whereas i drove it to dealer whereas the throttle pedal was corroded and the dealer replaced it and said it was all fine and road tested., I went to dealer to pick it up and when i started it up in their parking lot a small "service engine" light came on , the dealer then told me it was fine when it was parked there....also saying if the problem was not related to their work of replacing the throttle pedal assembly, there would be another charge just to hook it to the shop computer ( 160.00 plus taxes) I said no, reset the light and I will take it home like it as it was driving fine with that light on. I then purchased a Code Reader off Amazon #BM700 and with this reader my code is 28A0 ( throttle valve opening angle-intake pipe Absolute pressure, comparison pressure to high) i checked and rechecked and dont see anything in plastics cracked or defective or loose hoses.I would love to have this flow fault chart to see if i can fine the problem.I am going to try this Servivce Bulliton according to i found on the bmw site #SI B11 09 19>>>> ty for your input Sir
don't recall exactly but looks like there are some here: dokumen.tips/documents/test-plan-for-bmw-service-development-status-plan-for-bmw-service-development.html just do a google search on "MEVD17.2-BN2000" and you will find the docs. Hello, great video. I’ve ordered the part as I’m getting no check engine however when scanned code 149D comes up as “permanent” code I’ve already tried driving it 300+ miles and still there so assuming needs to be changed, was this your situation? And to clearing the fault was caused by the first valve and not the one closer to the throttle body?
I think I had CEL on. It was so long ago, I forget the details. I do recall only one valve caused the fault and it the video isn't clear, my memory is even less clear. Be sure to LIKE and subscribe. THAT will really help me. THANKS!!!
@@YuDaMan well I changed both valves now but since it’s a permanent code I’m assuming I have to do a few drive cycles so the ecu ensures the problem was fixed, hopefully because I need to get the smog done 🤦🏻♂️
It is very easy if u have a little mechanical experience, I changed mine completely( both valves and breather hose required) within about 15 mins, only hard bolt to get to is the bottom front 10mm at the front of the throttle body. Everything else is a breeze
Tools u will need is flashlight(not a must but helps, ratchet, 10mm ratchet and deep socket, 10mm wrench, flat head screwdriver and maybe channellocks. Good luck ask for advice if needed
@@MK-iv8bh yes I had to remove the throttle body, all the bolts are easy to access except the bottom front bolt, just be patient u will get it. And u dont have to use channellocks it just makes squeezing some of the oval connectors
M K, make sure u get the breather line recommended, it has a 636 in the UPC on the new hose and the new hose with have 2 o-rings where it connects to the grey colored valve connection. First o-ring should be blue, pay attention. You have to buy that new hose, the old hose does not work with the new valves
wish I could help you but I did this long ago and don't recall it being anything particularly difficult. I"m sure there are detailed videos out there than can help you or post the question on one of the X5 enthusiast sites. sorry
I replaced the gas cap gasket first. Of course, not that simple. Replacing the vent valve as shown in my video cleared the fault immediately. Please subscribe. thanks.
Im so confused, can you make your text overlays match what your referencing or summarize in a post? Valve 1 vs front valve and replacing defective... Etc... What Ive deducted is that you tried 4 methods, and then just decided to replace the whole part completely... but needed a new vent hose as well... Correct? Can you post the NON DEFECTIVE part number please? Thank you!!!
I have the same issues code 149d. I did changed the whole parts and the engine lights went out when I reset it, but the code still popping out. Now my problem is how can I get rid of this code my car is not passing the smog. Please I need your help.TY
If you are sure it's the SAME code, then something is not fully connected and seated or your part is defective. The original part I received from my supplier was defective. I suppose there are other components in that system that might be faulty but I don't know exactly what that whole system looks like. A cracked hose or cracked line will probably show the same fault code.

Thanks for the like, the sub and in particular the code from your reader. I'm certain your input will help your fellow man!
Thanks for video. You helped me fix my issue with the code. You're right that replacing the "front valve" addresses the code.

@@YuDaMan Not yet, but I'll be looking forward to seeing the video.
Update: turned out that the second valve is what needed to be replaced. So far no check engine light after one week.
Do you have the bmw part # to fix this issue? Thanks
It’s in the description of this video. I would recommend what ask bmw about the valve at 8:40 into the video. You’ll need to get that part as well.

Was the new Valve purge Genuine BMW part? If so, then the original breather valve should fit without needing a new breather valve..Correct?

You do have to have the new breather line to complete installation

What's symptoms? Rough idle is possible with check engine light?
Nice. Where did you get the diagnostic chart? Would be nice to have to convert codes to P codes
Might be a dumb question, but what is "PIA" ?
Pain in the ass ....
could you please do a video on changing purge valve air system for mini cooper F56? please
sorry. can't help you. I don't have a mini.
I cannot figure out how to remove the 2 lower screws on the throttle body. How do I take off the piece hiding the bottom screws? Help!

Is this an x5 e70 6 cycle y sure ??
Yes, absolutely positive it is an E70 6 cylinder 35i
I wonder if the 3166 code - Tank safety valve malfunction has anything to do with the breather hose line issue... Can anyone chime in?

Were you able to figure it out? I just changed mine, permanent code still there but I’m sure I just have to do a few more drive cycles
