    Ryan, as a touring technician I recommend labeling both ends of your cable looms! You can make yourself look like a boss when it comes to a clean professional presentation of your work, fast deployment (what hired hand hasn't been asked "How fast can you get setup? We're running behind."), and of course SAVE YOUR BUTT for any troubleshooting you might have to do. Not to mention making it super easy to work with the ubiquitous "volunteer" assistant that shows up. There are TONS of labeling tools. I've found that a hand-held labeling device (

      I’m with you there. I am a touring audio engineer as well, and usually I do have everything labeled. This will eventually get labels but I’ll be doing a more permanent version of this with some heat shrink and Techflex and alllll the goodies. That’ll be V2. Thanks for all the great suggestions and for checking out the video!

    Would there be any issue running your audio cables in the same cable loom as your power cable?

    • @jonpaulsen3861
      @jonpaulsen3861 4 года назад +3

      In this case, the ATEM power is DC, so not likely and issue.
      Best practice is to run analog, digital, network and power each in its own space. In practice, ain’t happenin’ and not likely an issue with short runs and simple networking.
      In the ATEM wiring scenario, your biggest risk is unbalanced audio run parallel to AC power (than would be power cords to displays and such). Just make sure you have good quality shielded unbalanced audio cables. Use balanced cables where you can, especially from a dynamic microphone to your mic preamp. Mic 1 and 2 inputs are unbalanced, so you would need and external preamp.

      I don’t think it’s possible over Ethernet since the hard drive doesn’t show up on the computer if you connect it like that. I believe you need to move the hard drive over to the computer.

    Lol I'm still having trouble with this lol.
    The only thing I have on my side, is under my desk, has drawers, so no wires can be seen, behind my desk, I also use allot of monitors, and all of this helps ALLOT in blocking my cables, towards the back of my desk.
    The problem I have, is YES I have a desktop connected, but I also have 6 laptops and those laptops are on side tables/side desks, so my main desk is in front of me, where I keep all of my monitors, keyboards and mice, and all my laptops are on side tables/side desks, beside me/on my left and right.
    So I use USB extender cables, to get accessories connected, such as external SSDs, externeral 7200RPM hardrives, SOME of my keyboards and mice, are wired as well, ALSO HDMI cables as well.
    I require, ALL of these laptops, for work, and all of these laptops are connected to, 9 monitors, 3 42inch monitors and 6 24inch monitors, meaning every laptop/computer gets 3 displays/two 24inch displays and one 42inch display, including my desktop, which has an I9,64GBS of DDR4 Ram and two 3090s in SLI and as I said, its also connected to one 43inch display and two 24inch displays, all of my monitors are 4k/3840x2160p 120hz, except one, 50inch 7680x4320p/8k monitor.
    So in all, I have 13 monitors.
    These monitors are setup well though/I can slide over, in my chair, to get the perfect angle, for which ever machine, im working on, so the setup I have, is the 42inch monitor, is always in the middle and the two 24inch monitors are always on the side of the 42inch monitor, to do this I built a really long/wide desk, and the 50inch 7680x4320p/8k display, is above, all of my monitors, centered.
    I also use 3 keyboards and mice, to control 7 computers.
    The reason I need/use multiple computers, is, because I need multiple OSs/I have a home server,I monitor/pull things from,I test code/applications/projects/emulate multiple devices, while testing, also the reason ALLOT of these computers are laptops, is, because I take multiple laptops on the go, when I need to, up to 3, but MOST of the time two, IF, I'm not pen testing/doing any security work, and allot of my pin testing/security work, CAN, be done remotely, so I don't HAVE, to go to a location to do that.
    The OSs and how I use all these laptops:
    My home server runs on red hat linux,one has arch linux, one has Manjaro Linux, and these machines/laptops, I primarily use for coding/most of my work, is done from these laptops, MOST. Two of my laptops have Windows 10 on them, I use these laptops for applications that I code, that run on windows and I also use these machines/laptops for testing applications and also, on the go gaming, and one laptop has Kali Linux on it, which I use for pen testing jobs/security jobs and so on.
    Like I said,on the go I USUALLY, take one linux machine and one windows machine, unless im doing any security work, then I bring my Kali Linux laptop/three laptops; Because of this, all of my laptops NEED to be able to be removed/portable, at anytime.
    Anyway, you can see why I have issues, with cable management.

      I actually haven't done that yet. For now, since it's gaff tape, I'll just write on it with a silver sharpie. Great video on cable management. Question - do hdmi extensions add delay?

    • @RyanKnowsNothing
      @RyanKnowsNothing  3 года назад

      Hey Louis!
      Sorry for the late reply. I took the last month of the year off from RUclips. Thanks for the kind words. To answer your question, I am really not sure. I haven't noticed a difference. I think it's more length driven. I am using a mixture of 6' to 15' HDMI cables in addition to the 6' extensions and I haven't noticed a difference. I do run some 25' HDMI cables for other things and they seem pretty snappy to me.
      I hope that helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.

      @@RyanKnowsNothing I will indeed. Is the Instagram a good way to reach you?
      (The idea has morphed a bit in the last 3 weeks; It turned into an all-in-one 4ft tall flight case, until I realised it would be so heavy I'd need to empty the box to go upstairs with it, somewhat negating the point of having everything in the flight case...it is now looking more like a small self-contained hinged box for OB with everything else strapped onto a dolly board. Still love my all-in-one idea though, will deffo come back to that.)

  • @Graham_Rule
    @Graham_Rule 4 года назад

    I found that very interesting but was concerned about the strain on the cables coming out of the ATEM. Those velcro pads you used near the end made me think about fastening the ATEM and the cables coming to a board to give a bit more stability. Some rubber feet on the board could be used to stop it scratching the table top. I'd also be tempted to have a board at the other end so that each cable could be labeled.

    • @RyanKnowsNothing
      @RyanKnowsNothing  4 года назад

      Definitely! I noticed that too and am still working on a solution (if one exists). The ATEM has a couple of rubber pads, but isn’t very secure which the weight of the cables. Thanks for the suggestions Graham!

A quick look at your channel reveals you have far exceeded me in this endeavor. Please don't look at my one video, and if you do, give me a thumbs down and flame me. You might consider actually contributing something to that which you freely take from. Good luck on fixing your brain Mr. Weiner, sir. We can't really help you with that, but we can help with technical assistance. My preference would be you just go away in shame. However, this is Ryan's channel and he may fell differently. He wants to be nice to you. I don't.

    Tip: make cable ties with electrical tape. Get like a couple of inches, and fold it about halfway going up, leaving enough adhesive exposed, so that you can bring it around a cable, and have it stick to itself.
    Hope that was clear enough lol.
    Also if you have a long cable, at the end leave a foot or two and wrap it around the bundle a couple of times.
