- In this video we start topsoiling, grading and sodding a residential subdivision near a lake. Step one is loading topsoil from the on site stock pile to the lots with a dump truck. the we use our case 550h dozer and skid steers to roughly spread all the soil adequately. Then we go back to do a fine grading carve out the swales and rake. Also install gravel between the homes with less then 8 feet of space where grass is likely to not survive. Final step is to install the grass , roll it and get water on it.

Rewatched! One of my favorites, love the skid steer work and the grading of dirt! Love it!
Great operator skill
Thanks! We try our best. Appreciate that! 🍻🍻
@@dirty.diggers More content buddy, you do good work. How long have you been running skids?
@@KennysTreeRemoval thanks dude! I try my best to get as much content out as I can 😄 I will try to have a video of a project we did recently out soon! Thanks for watching 🤙🍻🍻
Just realized I didn’t answer the second question! Lol
I started running tractors and skid steers at about 4-5 years old. So I’ve been at it for 30 years now
Always enjoy watching this video and how the ground looks when completed!
Thanks my man! Greatly appreciated 🍻🍻
Wow!! Those are some tight spots
They sure didn’t waste any sq footage on those lots
Awesome job Andrew 🤙
Thanks James! These are for sure some unique style lots with the “backyard” in between the homes on the models with the garage in the rear with a lane way.
The soil is a nice color. I love your use of the skid steer....smooth abd clean. Great commentary throughout.... i love watching the grading of the ground creation of the swales, etc.
Thanks man! We like to always do a nice clean job. God drainage is always key! 💪
@@dirty.diggers Where did you do this project? Where do you do most of your work? The soil looks so rich and a nice color to it.
@@aaronburford5701 we see all sorts of different soils in an hour radius from nice sandy soils like this site, to clay loam types and very rocky. We work in southern Ontario
@@dirty.diggers Wow! I am in Virginia, I knew that soil or clay was not from here. It looks so rich, makes the ground looks great once completed.... thanks for your response.
@@aaronburford5701 no worries appreciate all the feedback and support 👍🏻🍻
I've never seen houses built so close. Geez.
lol oh yeah I’m not a fan either but that’s how it’s done in our area. Many houses have less space. These tightest ones are 6 feet apart. But many subdivisions are only 4 feet apart!
@@dirty.diggers Wow!
Nice dirt!
Nice job. I am just learning to use a skid steer and also have an FAA license to fly my drone. Nice work and video!
Awesome!! And Thank you! I really appreciate that 😁👍🏻👍🏻
You got some great skills man! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Thank you! Much appreciated 👊👊👍🏻👍🏻
Great skill!!
Thank you 🤙
Did you shoot points on it to be sure the water is flowing correctly? It honestly looks like that back area where all the sod is will pool in the center in many areas and/or flow towards the houses.
No we don’t typically shoot unless it’s close. We do thousands of homes a year and have a pretty good eye for getting the grades right, as well as bench marks like the heights at the house and grade stakes at the rear.
This grade is designed to be lowest in the middle of the yard, and then slope to the side yards and out to the street from there.
Very rarely the drainage doesn’t work, and that’s usually due to some type of problem with the building where we can’t achieve enough slope.
Nice brother just subscribed
Awesome! Thank you and welcome to the dirty digger team! 👊👊
Thats where the ASV 30's shine. Not a lot of power, but confined areas.I used mine a lot down south on lake erie cottage lots.
Oh yeah man they are a necessity now a days with the proximity homes are built of each other! Many places we’ve encountered where even the PT 30 doesn’t fit! We struggle to get a wheelbarrow in there lol
wow that is smooth grading , is your bucket longer than average for this job ?
Thank you! Much appreciated 😁
The bucket is just standard that came with the machine
Good job…….,Those houses are so jam on top of one another 🤦♂️
Thank you! They sure are but we’ve had worse lol
Nice work no irrigation
Irrigation is up to the homeowner
What type of blade is it on the dozer?
very informative! I am going to rent a small skid steer to dig 5-6 inches of top soil for my backyard project. Should I start excavating from the highest point to low point of my existing grade? and does "float mode" help in maintaining the grade? Sorry I never used skid steer so wondering how to effectively use it. Thank you!
Personally I never use float mode as it doesn’t really cut anything if needed. And it all depends how it’s laid out where to start and how much room you have to work. Usually in a smaller backyard I start at one end and work my way out. If it’s bigger and good access then whichever way is easiest
Where is this located? Houses are way to close. Nice job!
Thank you! This is located about an hour east of Toronto. These houses are close together but trust me there are homes closer 😝
Moving birt off the mountain. Get'er done.
Haha you know it Scruffy! Always getting after it 💪
Why use the kubota while you had an asv machine there or trex smaller size doesn't make sense but good skills
Thanks appreciate it! In which situation? We did use both where necessary.
@@dirty.diggers sorry didn't mention when you went in the tight space or backyard
@@dblkouzam well I’m the backyard is the bigger space so we use the bigger skidsteers! Lol we try to use the bigger ones where possible. If it’s really to tight or won’t fit then yes we use the small one. They just aren’t anywhere near as smooth or efficient compared to bigger ones
Sod has gaps in it aye .. Why not pack jam close together.
They are laid together lol. It’s thousands of pieces to install of course you see the seems which you’re confusing for gaps. If watered properly in 3-4 weeks I assure you there is no “gaps” or seems
Great work but wow what a shitty place to live. Who wants a house 4ft from your neighbors house?
Haha I agree with you there! We do well over a thousand homes a year and I’d say about 95% of the homes we do have 4 feet to the property line or less. Very common now to make the most of land
@@dirty.diggers damn thats great a lot of work! i just started my own business got my own skid steer im able to do it friday-sunday currently. But id love for it to grow to a full time thing
@@mick2798 I’m sure you can do it! Just keep at it 👍🏻👍🏻
Probably Texas. Its disgusting how close the homes are jammed together 🤦♂️
So many gaps...
Gaps? What do you mean
average sand grade. lol
What do you mean by sand grade??
