  • Grading a house with the excavator. I was digging more sewer lines in the morning and was driving right by this property on the way to my shop so I just used the excavator instead of getting the loader. It wasn't quite as fast but still got the job done. Thanks for watching! #EliteEarthworks #Takeuchi #TB260

    Rewatched! The more i look at rhis one, the more impressed i am, instead fhe skid steer you used an excavator to do the grading...

    Very nice... the 260 is very utilitarian. I looked at one yesterday. Actually hydro fluid, unlike my TL8, Diesel engine oil for hydro.

      I love my 260! Yeah it’s weird excavators take hydraulic fluid and the loafers use engine oil

    A little wet for a finish job... but it sure made that sod roll nicely. When you get that blade shined up a bit more, you’ll be able to roll sod suitable for retail!

      Lots of Slab on grade houses there? We dig a lot of basements because footings have to go below frost line so you may as well have a basement

      Yes lots of slab houses here. We do have a few basements but not as many as slabs. I would believe that with the cold you guys have.

    Quickest way to wear out your final drives. This is a propper do not do on a digger.

    When grading which do you prefer and why? Excavator or Skid steer.... it looks like you have mastered both!

    I think 1/someone should not build on top soil 2/the grading should be only by removing soil, not adding. Because the added soil will decrease volume with time, so it cannot be considered as stable anymore. I am impressed how you can set a level in both directions without any instrument reference

      They brought in clay and compacted it before they built the house. We don’t really have topsoil here just rocks and more rocks lol

    A lot of guys use skid steers for this kind of job. But the mini excavator did a good job too.

    If you were roughing in a lot with a lengthy driveway what one piece of machinery would you prefer for the job? Seeing a fair amount of negative comments about using a mini-ex for the whole thing

    How you getting rid of the track marks and making it perfectly even?

      You can back drag it with the blade or skid steer to get the marks out. And you just have to check it with a laser level to make sure the grade is correct

    Its been my experience to build up the pads so that the home is higher than surrounding land, not build it in a hole

      I didn’t either and I’m not sure if it’s hard on it 🤣 I don’t think it is I tried not to spin the tracks too much 🤷🏼‍♂️

      Nope, they are made for it. You can push all day every day. (however its not fun and very slow)

      Man i kinda want to buy a mini ex strictly for this any opinions on it. It does looks slow but i think you spend more time going back and forth on the skid.

    Do you not dig the sewer wastes in for the bathrooms ect before they form it up and pour?

      No we will dig a footing on that grade then they stack two 2x10 to form the slab and fill it with base rock. All of the plumbing is in the rock

    I haven't heard you say much about the angle blade function on the new coochie. What do you like or dont like about it? Is it worth the extra cost?

      I do really like it. It’s worth the extra cost to me especially for backfilling ditches and spreading out rock.

      @@MobtacticsBruh cause I didn’t need too our ground is so rocky and hard I can cut it down a little and you can build right on top of it. The house hasn’t settled to this day

      @@MobtacticsBruh I actually have. It’s really all about knowing your soil type and area. My region is probably different than what you have in yours. We don’t have to dig as deep here to hit good solid ground we have about 6” of topsoil the rest is rocky clay and limestone. My methods may not work every where but they work for where I’m located

      I am clearing off .6 of an acre. I am taking out trees and planning on doing the grading. I do have to have a culvert put in. But mainly needing to get rid of stumps and make a pad. Would it be better to use a slid steer or mini excavator?

      @@jacobbowman9450 you can do it all with an excavator. The stumps and culvert for sure with an excavator. The pad probably better with a skid steer

    What size dump truck do you have?

      I have an Internstional 4900 single axle and a Peterbilt 377 tandem

      @@eliteearthworksllc how well does the 4900 pull your mini ex and skid steer? Im looking at a 4900 but just wanted to make sure it was capable of hauling a mini or skid with ease

      It pulls them fine, it’s an automatic so it is a bit slow but it does pull them

      Justin Keller yeah I love the truck. I’ve owned it almost 4 years and have only serviced it and put two batteries in it. They are very reliable. It sits a lot now with having the other but every time I need it it fires right up
