It will be 4 years this year that I’ve lost my dad to stage four cancer. I’m only 26 and am missing one of the most important people in my life throughout all of my life’s most important moments. That being said I was crying a lot already hearing this segment and thinking of my poor dad when you unfortunately revealed that your guest is also terminally ill. I must say what a great guest he was and how BEAUTIFUL and awesome it is for his family and friends and us to be able to see him and hear him speak passionately, smile, and laugh on this episode where it will be available until the unforeseeable future thanks to you and your team Megyn. I only wish I had a video like this of my dad ❤ Sending love to him and his family

Oh Megyn, what a truly amazing episode. I lost my beautiful 94 year old mum on Monday , she had a fall and broke her hip on Saturday and had to have surgery. Her poor heart failed and we lost her a few hours later. I wasn't going to listen to this but thought it would keep my mind busy. I'm so glad a did. Like you i had tears running down my cheeks at the end and so admire the incredible positivity of this man. Thank you and bless you for bringing this remarkable man to us. ❤️❤️

@Andy griffin Roland didn't recommend people use any of these unsupervised. It is true that if you have a serious clinical depression, severe anxiety, family members with schizophrenia etc. that you can have increased risk for paranoid, psychotic reactions. This is powerful medicine and not without risk. The setting is everything. If you are with trained mentors in a safe place and you don't have the genetic risk factors for highly adverse experiences fine, but if you're really down, upset, or kind of paranoid already and take these in an unsupported, stressful einvornment this could result as Roland said in suicide, homicide and permanent psychosis. Hallucinogenics change the way that your neural synapses are firing. Don't 'fool around with it' alone if you are having troubling problems and think you can take this with no one else around. Could be a 'bad' trip' that you may regret. First try safer experiences if at all posslbe by working with a trusted medical professional in a clinic setting first time if you can.

There's so much wrapped up in this discussion! I love what Roland said about gratitude, meditation, and blessing. Many years ago, a traumatic chapter drove me into intense pain and despair which led me to a totally new world view. The teachings of people like Eckhardt Tolle were critical to moving me through the experience in a healthy way. Gratitude and meditation have become daily practices and have completely changed my life. I've never taken psychedelics but have been curious to explore their effects and any further enlightenment that might be gained through them. Thanks for reminding us of Steve Jobs' last words. When I was a child, my dad told me of my grandmother's last words; "Oh, what a beautiful place!" I've been very interested in listening to near-death experiences for many years. I find them strikingly beautiful and similar in many cases. Perhaps, psychedelic experiences point to some of the very same revelations. IDK, but it's an interesting and intriguing thought. I love your empathy and compassion, Megyn. You're a classy girl and I love your show.

Kelly, wish you would do several segments on chronic pain sufferers who have or are now losing the only thing that allows even minimal living. A living frightening hell! I am a 73 year old grandmother who has never had alcohol, tobacco or even caffeine! I have been fighting suicide for 7 years. I’m envious when I hear of someone who has cancer. They can at least choose death when they are sick of fighting. They have an international support group. They are given compassion and pain relief. My pain conditions won’t kill me. Suicide will. I have a large loving family. Much to live for but the cruel suffering is every waking moment. Look up chronic pain and read the comments of sufferers. I cry

I can honestly say I wouldn't be the man I am today without the extraordinary enlightenment of psychedelics. They literally open parts of your mind that I can confidently say wouldn't have been tapped without them. In the simplest terms I said to myself "dude, you're doing it (living life) wrong" They changed me as a person. Less hostile, more introspective, and a greater appreciation for all things. Every so often you have to clean out the pipes and reconnect spiritually. imo

Love watching your show Megyn. You have the most amazing, charming, calming, healing and most pleasant voice of anyone I have ever heard! Thanks for your vulnerability at the end of the show in showing your deep feeling about Roland's close-to-death experiences.Your caring nature is an asset! I can tell that Roland has been practicing Mindfulness Meditation for many years. It is not that he is not having anger, fear, frustration because he does but he is 'watching' these emotions arise and fall, he has awareness of these emotions, He isn't 'gripped' and stuck in these as he simply without heavy-handed intensity just acknowledges them and holds these feelings as they rise and let's them go by not clinging to them. I like that he 'reframes' these feelings by focusing consciously on gratitude and celebration. Not that these emotions are 'bad' because as he says, we ARE human and it is 'human' to grieve, to cry, to get angry and get frustrated as well as to express all the 'feel good' emotions of enthusiasm and joy etc. As Roland says, our 'animal' selves have these emotions because on an evolutionary level they are advantageous to us.
Like Roland, I too have the core desire to help humans learn to 'get along' and find the essence of all conflicts and together or separately work on these aspects both 1-1 as well as in a group. Rather than 'cutting off' relations with 'enemies' I believe it is important to stay engaged if possible, to ask the difficult questions, to be genuine, to be truthful, to listen, to learn. to s peak.
. By practicing mindfulness meditation daily myself and by doing daily reflections upon at least 10 things I am grateful for in the morning and at last 10 things in the evening and doing this WITH my fiance daily as well as sharing specific things we appreciate about each other and praying each day together we have the best relationship and life. This is so even though this doesn't require any hallucinogenics to develop this same steady, consistent positive attitude and feeling that Roland expressed of living daily with profound appreciation of the miracle of being alive on this jewel of a planet and by remembering daily to be thankful for all the things that are 'working' well without me even thinking about them every moment both in my body and in my life... I completely relate to Roland's attitude of celebration of life. May this way of being alive be learned by more people!
By the way, there is a neuroscientist who had this dog named Chaser who remembered the names of over 2,000 toys. There is a documentary film about him and Chaser. He too had this same beautiful spirit as Roland!

Megyn BEST SHOW YOU HAVE EVER DONE ! You’ve shown empathy through your eyes . I’ve so much to say about this show. There are the five stages of grief that possibly 99% of human beings go through. 1. Denial 2. Anger 3. Bargaining ( making a pact with a God you most likely never really believed in eg. God please let this be a misdiagnosis, and I’ll go to church everyday for the rest of my natural life ) 4. Depression 5. Acceptance. I know those five are all cliches for anyone over fifty mais the last thing young people ever think about is growing old ,and expiring someday . We are hardwired in the denial of death . I’ve taken acid possibly fifty times . The first time was like being reborn, the greens of the autumn leaves in upstate New York were like something I couldn’t explain, like seeing nature for the first time , and how every man made gizmo was insignificant in the extreme . Rather than write for an hour of my experience’s I would suggest you, and your husband have a clinically supervised experience OUTSIDE in the middle of the woods where there are trees, small animals ,and no distractions , just have a couple of “guides” for lack of a better term. Don’t go into this if you’re predisposed to anxiety or depression from a current life event , be yourself ,and don’t necessarily take the highest dose , that’s not necessary. It’s like putting your toe in the water only this time you’ll feel it through your entire body. Bon chance …

Many years ago I worked with Jacquelyn Small in a process she called Integrative Breathwork. It was based on work done by Stanislov (Stan) Groff. Since use of psychedelic drugs was illegal, the process used a focused breathing technique to achieve the altered state. It was done in a darkend room, with a sitter, and faciliated by evocative music; very similar to what Dr. Griffiths describes about his sessions. Groff's original work was also done with psychedelic drugs and it led him to develop a theory about human consciousness, the psyche, and the impact of a person's birth process on later perceptions and behavoirs. Many of his books are still available and I highly recommend them.

I have taken LSD many times and also mushrooms. I do not recommend anyone taking LSD by themselves although my experiences were good. I have also had near death experiences. You actually do not die. Your consciousness goes on without any missing of thought. I actually think it is not the best thought because I do not have children and I’m not married. So I do not fear death at all which is not that good. I am not suicidal at this time but I can’t say I won’t be at some time. I’m so glad this man talked about the good attributes of mushrooms. They are amazing and I’m glad that he has his attitude.
