My ex-wife and I went to Don's concerts in the 1980's. He's an artist who tells the stories from the Bible in a emotional level that tells a strong message. You can't help but tear when listening. Great artist.
Easter is the best holiday ever! Just reflecting on what Jesus did this weekend is amazing. There is great peace in knowing that He is alive and that His Holy Spirit is with us all the time. He never fails to love, comfort, heal the afflicted, bless the weak and set free the prisoners to addictions. Keep your faith because we are all in for a bumpy ride before He comes back to take us home.

I've heard him sing this song before, but this one lacks the energy and passion I heard from one of his albums. Good to see the lyrics displayed. The song is great. I usually feel on the verge of weeping when I hear it.
Very meaningful song. The only problem for me is that the account of who encountered Jesus first is incorrect. It was Mary Magdalene who was chosen, and the written word confirms, to see the resurrection of Jesus, first. Not my opinion. It is written in the Bible. I can't help but wonder why, Don Francisco chose to alter that very salient fact.
The song never said nor implied Mary was not the first person to see Jesus alive. The song is focused on the anguish of Peter so it showing Peter's first meeting with Jesus not Mary's. Even if Don would have mentioned Mary running back saying she has seen Jesus, what is also written in the Bible is that the first appearance of Jesus was in the morning and then in the evening is where he finally revealed himself to the apostles. Peter would have been swelling with anguish until Jesus finally appeared to him. Anguish not only over the fact of his betrayal of his teacher and witnessing his teacher dying but even more so now over the fact Mary is claiming Jesus is risen. The song is already 5 minutes long so I do not think he was trying to make a 25 minute song.

Actually Don Francisco is the author of this song. The song was written somewhere in 1975 or 1976. It was released on Don’s 1977 recording called Forgiven. In 1980, he was named Songwriter of the Year along with “He’s Alive” as Song of the Year at the Dove Awards and that was with him singing it. He wrote it with his voice in mind so it fits his voice perfectly. You might prefer one of the other versions with a different singer, which is absolutely fine, but he is the one who made it an iconic song.
