Last time on the Travel Series we flew from Philadelphia (PHL) to Charlotte (CLT) and on to the aviation paradise of St. Maarten (SXM). Today we begin our trip home as we fly from St. Maarten (SXM) to Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) with a stop in Charlotte (CLT). Fly with me on an American Airlines Boeing 737-800 and Airbus A321-200 as we compete the third day of this adventure. As always, we'll take some time explore the airpots along the way, as well as our overnight accommodation. Check out the two previous episodes from this trip below!

Awesome video!! Question: I am confused as to why you took off from runway 28. Normally planes takeoff from runway 10... Is this due to winds or something. I have seen planes depart from 28 before, so nothing new, but I’m just curious as to the reason. My bet as I said before is probably winds. Thanks in advance. And seriously, fantastic video :D

Thanks my friend! As for your question. The winds almost never favor runway 28 at SXM, but more and more airlines seem to be opting to use runway 28 for departures. When I first visited SXM years ago it was very rare to see a 28 departure. But recently it’s almost 50/50. US Airways was the first airline I can remember that started regularly using runway 28 for departures. I think it was in 2016 when I was there for four days all US Airways flights took off from 28. On this trip American, WestJet, and Air France all took off on 28. The wind was clearly favoring 10 for all of them. I would say it’s probably a safety thing. Less risk taking off with a slight tailwind than possibly suffering an engine failure on takeoff using 10. Either that or for the safety of the people at Maho Beach. I don’t know if either of those are correct or accurate. That’s just my assumption. Perhaps someone else has more information.

Skylite Productions thanks so much for the quick reply. Those are certainly valid ideas. I’ll look into this. I’ve always known runway 10 as the departure and arrival runway.

@@rjflight7625 No problem my friend! Let me know if you find anything on it. I'd be interested to know if I was right, or if it's for another reason.

Has SXM always had a temporary gate area for certain flights or is it because of the hurricane destructing part of the terminal?

This was a result of the hurricane. That being said, I believe the main terminal is open again now. This was filmed last Demeter. The locals I talked to when I was there said the terminal was supposed to be reopened before January 1st.

Daniel. I appreciate you taking the time to watch, and there are a lot new people around the channel. So, I'll try not to take your comment personally as I put a ton of work into this series (the Travel Series). Hopefully this explains a little bit about what your complaints are. This video is an episode of The Travel Series. The Travel Series is not designed to have the original sound of the flights. In fact The Travel Series doesn't even focus on aviation all the time. The Travel Series is designed to showcase an entire day's worth of travel from start to finish. This includes the airports, flights, hotels, and ultimately, the destination. This series is also set to music, and it is set to music for two reasons. The first reasons is because I like to have fun editing videos, and this allows me to be a little more creative than the regular videos you see. The second reasons is because the flights you see in this video, and all other Travel Series videos, have already been posted, or will be posted very soon, on my channel in their full, unedited versions. And yes, that includes full, original, sound and no sped up takeoffs and landings. So again, I really appreciate you taking the time to watch, but if you don't like these videos there are tons of "unedited" flights on my channel. You can find a playlist with every full flight video I've ever posted here:
      ruclips.net/p/PL6poUgHngiIFJRsTseUaeOouw-wl2XCBi
Every video in the above playlist has full, unedited, original sound, and video. Hopefully this helps clear it up. I try very hard to create content that everyone enjoys. I know I will never please everyone all the time, but I try very hard to have a good variety of content so everyone has at least one series they enjoy. If the Travel Series isn't for you, because of the music, then I encourage you to try watching my full flight videos listed above. Thanks!
