Thanks Bud. I appreciate the time and effort to put these comprehensive videos together. I've had some hit and miss experience with presence detection (always using google devices on the latest version of android). Part of the issue is without the presence switch there's no obvious way (correct me if I'm wrong) to see whether myself or my wife are present in ST app. It seems like a strange omission to me. I use TADO for home heating and that has a little visualisation of where each person is which is surprisingly useful for problem solving...particularly when my geolocation seems to go roaming for no apparent reason?! Anyway, thanks again and I'll have a play setting up the switch. Next challenge is set up the ST Switch to manually disarm and arm an alarm (with a delay) which is more complicated than it seems!
Thanks for commenting Justin. You are correct there is no obvious way to determine whether members are present. That’s why I adopted the virtual presence switches. And you’re also correct that they are very helpful when troubleshooting. However, the main reason I use them is that they are available to use in third-party apps, such as the Alexa app and the sharp tools app. Keep automating my friend!
Hi Bud, I agree that earlier versions of iOS & iPhones didn’t work at all well! I have an iPhone 11 & still run into unpredictable results. Maybe with the new IOS getting pushed out it will be more reliable. Thanks for your continued efforts with SmartThings in getting out the word on this changing paradigm shift of automating our homes.
Hi Bud, I don't have a SmartThings hub yet (waiting for SmartThings station just ordered), but I'm already able to use the Precense detection on my Galaxy S10+ and MotoG7 plus of my wife, I used for arm/disarm the alarms and also for turn on a Hue Light when arrived home at night. Working fine at the moment!
Thanks Bud! I have created a Virtual Presence switch but Alexa will not allow me to use it to trigger a Routine. I have an iPhone13. Any thoughts on what I've done wrong.
Hi Bud, I just checked and I have the latest version of smartthings and I have a smartthing hub. However, my "member location" screen does not have the same selections as yours. Mine just shows Who? can select myself or my wife: Where? only choice is our home: When? at ----- home, away from ----- home,: After being away for how long?: Stays this status for how long? and Use as precondition which is greyed out. Any comments?
The selections that you detailed above are the exact selections that I have in my ST app. Perhaps you should DM me some screen shots so that I can better understand what is missing. www.youtube.com/@BudsSmartHome/about --- Click on view email address
Hi I sent you an email, I'm having issues with presence sensors working on my device but not my wife's ... Both running latest update on SmartThings as well as both iPhone 16pro max and location services verified as both being set up the same

Are you working with an android device or an iOS device? Also, I’m assuming that you have more than one member set up? Is that correct?

Hi Adam. I have replied via email. LMK if the reply is helpful.
Older phones. Shows phones from the ice age. 😂
Yes. It’s definitely hard to create a Geo fence with those “Ice”-phones.
